    Watches and their Profession stereotypes

I was having a discussion with a friend a couple of weeks ago and noticed he had a Submariner on. I jokingly asked him why he was wearing an IT Manager's watch when he worked in the city as a trader. He laughed and said "True, I should really wear a Reverso like all the Hedge-Fund Managers".

What other profession/watch stereotypes are there?

Gold rolex - second hand car salesman
G-Shock/Suunto - middle to senior management level in 'cool' Digital agencies who have kids and wife won't let them spend money on a decent watch.
Omega - someone working in city, who is not earning zillions
Omega - someone very successful/high earning and being 'subtle' or not _that_ into watches (but know Omega is quality).

(some or all of that is tongue in cheek) :)

About as much chance of identifying someones job from a watch as finding an honest politician in parliament.

Next time you meet an Italian gynaecologist, look at his wrist: TT Datejust for sure, and possibly an ankle chain (on the ankle, obviously).

Can't say I am tripping over Italian Gynaecologists on a daily basis. I have a English Eye Surgeon coming to lunch tomorrow and he wears a G shock.

Another excuse for the usual Rolex negativity cobblers, I'm not an ...

    IT Manager
    Silver-haired Radio 1 DJ
    Second-hand Car Salesman
    Loan Shark
    Drug Baron
    Plastic Surgeon
    Dictator

not that there's anything wrong with some of those ...

would be quite happy to be a Gynaecologist (but maybe not an Italian one) ;-)

Absolutely. An IT manager would wear a digital, probably plastic.

We seem to be confusing a stereotype (i.e. widely-held, over-simplified view) with seeing some chap / chap-ess wearing a watch...

TBH, I think the easiest stereotype to describe is a member of this forum, regardless of profession.
