    Birth Watch - 1984

Thought it was about time to get a birth watch, I am a fan of vintage but have so many!

Any ideas on a chronograph from that year?

    Thanks in advance

    Jonathan

Aha, I was wondering when that would come up, this is something that I would be interested in, rough value for a clean one from that year?

Thanks for the quick reply !

I just can't get my head round a 1984 watch being vintage!
When I think of 1984 watches, I think of Casio digitals, and the incessant hourly chimes beeping in every classroom!

You're probably looking around the £1200-£1500 mark dependent on condition and particulars.

If you did go down the Speedy route, they are very hard to date accurately without an extract of archives from Omega.

As an example, my ST145.022 has a case that points to 1978 manufacture, but the movement serial number corresponds to a 1983 movement. The only way I'll truly know the year is by ordering he extract of archives at around £50.

You learn something new everyday , the price range sounds reasonable....

Seiko quartz chrono - plenty to be had from that period, and guaranteed not to break the bank!

    Hi Jonathan,

How about a proper '80s Speedmaster, rather than the ubiquitous Moony...

(You can just about make me out in this pic, in the hat and the fetching 'body warmer', probably c1984!)

Prices are creeping on these, but you should find a good one for c£1200, possibly a little more with B&P, although you may have to search harder...

Or try going to Chrono24, search Omega and you can filter by year, I do this often on a number of makes to see if there is something nice from '73.

    Cheers,

    Rob

Personally, I would be looking at a Lemania 5100 powered Heuer. Perhaps something like this...

    Some more reading here...

On the lower end of the scale, an all-original Seiko 6309 would set you back around £250 quid for an all-original serviced one.

A G-shock DW-5000 would be in the same ballpark http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casio_DW-5000C

Fair do, prices have certainly gone up in the last few years...
