    How do you ....

Have to expose my ignorance here but how do you use toothpaste to take scratches out of an acrylic crystal ?

I put a very small amount on the crystal and use a Q-Tip to make circular motions on the scratch. Takes a bit of effort but has worked quite well on my Explorer...

Put a bit on a cloth and rub in a circular motion.
I've never found it abrasive enough to remove anything other than the very finest of marks though.

I've never found it abrasive enough for most scratches. You are better off buying some Polywatch.

Silvo or Brasso remove scratches easily - it's all I ever use.

T Cut works too but you need to be very gentle.

If you can get hold of Autosol , that is by far the best for hand polishing. Sometimes I use boat polish after Autosol, but I have a boat so it is in the house anyway.

Autosol can be bought @ any gas station (at least in Sweden).

'Polywatch' only works on plastic/acrylic crystals...it certainly doesn't work on Hardlex or sapphire. I believe it works by dissolving the top layer of the crystal and uses the resulting slurry to fill in the deeper scratches. I stand to be corrected though....and probably will be!

I don't think it dissolves anything. I imagine it's just micro particles in a carrying fluid. They start off coarse and as you polish they break down into smaller sizes thus reducing the wear effect to the point where you have polished the crystal.

A German friend told me that they use it for around their eyes, it gets rid of dark patches from a hang over, called sting stopper in German.
