If I liked it, wanted it and trusted the description and the seller then yes. The chances of that happening are close to zero tho'

The used (home-made?) aftermarket dials on these usually look pretty bad.

    buy the seller...

...not the watch. If the seller is someone who has a solid reputation, there would be no hesitation on my part.

For me, the location of the watch is irrelevant, unless there is a question about the reliability of the postal service in said country. There are too many scam artists in any country, so if I see the mod I like there is no reason to generalize based on location.

Absolutely not under any circumstances. Have done so twice and I didn't learn the first time.

I would never buy an old non serviced frankenwatch regardless of country.

I took a punt on a top grade gold 2892 movement from the Philippines... cost me $8 delivered and was better than described. Took 3 weeks to get to me though.

If price is right and seller ok. I have a refinished 6309 from over there. Case is a great job. Had to have it serviced here but that was in my calculation. Also check what you want. I insisted on original dial, and as it is refinished I needed a good insert aftermarket.

For the purists: I also have an all original. Had that first and made me want one that looks like new.

It is the one on the right.

Don't even entertain the thought. It'd be like buying a new set of hands and a new dial, under a new crystal, all attached to a corroded mess dripping in lube.

I've bought a couple of cheapy Seiko's from "watchcooking" in the past. They were fine for the money I paid.

..that said I bought a Seiko diver from the Philippines...replaced the dial, replaced the hand set and replaced the Seiko 7S26A movement with a new Seiko 7S26B movement. Then put the whole thing on a Nato strap and gave the case a thorough going over with Cape Cod.. the result..

It really depends on the seller. Some of the Filipino sellers have a good reputation (watchcooking as mentioned above is one of them I believe), others pretty damn awful. I'd say your best bet is to check out a more specialist Seiko forum to find out more about particular ebay sellers.

I've bought a couple; a 6309 from Loyswatch and a 7002 from Watchcooking, two of the more trusted sellers according to SCWF and haven't been dissapointed. The only issue I found was a rattly bezel on the 7002 due to a missing rubber o-ring but then we are talking about a £55 and twenty year old watch here. That said, there is a lot of junk out there and good movement pics are essential. I almost pulled the trigger on one 6309 from another seller before I noticed the small print about library pics being used for the ad and not those of the watch in question....
