Don't usually like californian dials but that works well on the 20 :)

This will be outstanding! Just a quick question - why Precista on this when all other 20's are sterile?

Too many good ones on the way!

I am a Cali fan but perhaps sterile like other 20's would work better - loving the gold hands.

Ooh. Been looking for something in a Cali dial. When? Where? How much?

What lug style are you thinking of?

When - when it's ready (not having a go - it's Eddie's Style) but since it's probably a dial change soonish hopefully
    Where - www.timefactors.com
How much - very reasonable - say <£400 ish at a guess unless it 'Special'
Lugs - a guess but likely the wire lugs as per other PRS20s - no need to redesign a classic :-)

The serial number should give you a clue when I'm expecting it to be available.

    Very nice, I like it.

Would prefer a vertical baton at six though .....

You can't tell from the picture but it will have a sandwich dial.

That's nice - should have guessed that with the form of the "8" used.

Nice one, Eddie, a Cali dial PRS-20 should be a lovely thing. Sandwich dial is just the icing on the cake.

All the classic ones have the horizontal bar at 6.

Interesting, any logical reason why still escapes me. That 3646 doesn't appear to match the 3 and 9 for thickness

That's an original 1940s, perhaps the radium lume has been removed and redone with something else?

I like it and would probably buy one. I was just looking to build myself a 3646 homage just a few days ago. I prefer the 44mm case rather than the 47 the original had.

I see you chose the gold hands rather then the blue tempered ones. Both combinations are lovely.

Is the project likely to happen in the near future or just something you're contemplating?

March 13th? - thats my birthday...

Dear Santa - please let it become with soldered legs and sterile dial with matching lume on dial/hands.

Not sure about the position of the 'Great Britain' text, it looks like the is a word between that has been redacted by the marker at 6.

I like the Great Britain. Every fifth second tick being thicker perhaps, though.

As a 112 owner I love sandwich dials, great 3D feel, gives real interest.

Sterile dial or not is the elephant!

Very nice, Cali dials are a nice quirk, just could not justify a Panerai for the occasional wear. One slight thing though and I think we've talked about it in the past - the 8, still not a fan of this style, but remember you saying that there was no other way to achieve an 8 and sandwich any other way. I'm guessing still the same 'issue'?

I have a PRS-20 waiting for a Christmas present... had a quick try on the wrist and looks great (probably the biggest I can go)

My other half has always said its one she like... now lets hope its one she likes enough for me to have two!! This might be tricky as she is not (so far) entertaining the idea of me having the PRS29 A & B. Even with my well constructed reasons for 'needing' both.

Back to this 20c, it looks great and I think its nice to the logo back on this one, as we have a sterile version already... gold hands could really ping I reckon and the right decision on the six baton in my opinion.

I resisted the full lume Itie, don't think I'll be able to pass up a Cali dial. Well done Eddie, even better looking than the original PRS-20. Speaking about the view from the front of course :-)

    Re: California dreamin'

I dislike these dials... perhaps I just don't get them. I always feel they are confused - almost schizophrenic :-)

  40. #40
I'd resisted a PRS-20 thus far - it's on the "to do" list - but as someone who accumulates rather than flipping it's taking a while to get there...

A Californian dial, however? That's a different matter. I'll be amongst the first in line for this one.

I have always been convinced the 20 is too big for me, but have an irrational desire for a Cali dial so am very likely to buy this when it comes out!

I have one of these (not a Cali) which I thought could be too big for my 6.5 inch wrist, but they wear smaller than the 45mm might suggest. It looks like a big watch on my small wrist, but not ridiculously so, even without a cuff to hide behind it works ok. And I don't go in for big watches as a rule.

I don't know how it works but Prs 20,an absolutely beautiful watch ,does 'wear smaller'.I will be very keen to see what this looks like, quite a fan of Cali dials. Here's my Prs20

Apologies for gratuitous Prs20 shot with no relevance to post!!

Looks nice Eddie, would like to see the chapter ring done in gilt as in the vintage 40's example pictured and with a sterile dial.

If you do go with the text though I think Great Britian would look better beneath the chapter ring and maybe it and Precista could be in gilt also to match the gold hands.

Looking forward to seeing this project coming together,

    Michael.

Is the lume layer available in an amber hue (as opposed to green)? A creamy, aged look would really fit this design.

Nice ideas from both... it would be good to give it an aged feel. But not to force it in to looking 'distressed' aged.

Yep, looks just like the 1, whereas if it's horizontal, it ties in with the 3 and 9 markers better.

I like these ideas as well, aged lume, gilt chapter ring and moving Great Britain to be lower.

A nice design Eddie I like it.

Would this have a non screw down crown?

  49. #49
I like the idea, but I would see the dial sterlie and with temperature blued hands. More homage to 3646 californias. Gold hands remind me too much current OP replicas.

The top of an old sandwich dial with aged lume applied to a cardboard disc underneath (not the best). The colour of the aged lume is accurate on my monitor.

This is not just any aged lume, this is a special development for this watch by a forum member who does stuff like this for a living. I have to say it's the best I've seen.
