Good to see that this is still a possibility
The Rotary & Chelsea Special Edition:
Why do the Pushers always have to be Screwdown Pushers? It always seems odd to me to have a Chrono and than having to unscrew first before eben able to use it...which is why the PRS-5 still is the only one in my collection sticking...
You can always do like Paul Newman did - leave 'em unscrewed all the time.
How is this project coming along Eddie? It's the one I've got my eye on the most now.
Hi all, first post here. I acquired PRS-18A last year (early ETA version) that has led me here and to this thread.
I am currently training in Horology and I am seriously considering a Daytona 6241 homage build based around a Valijoux 72.
From what I have read & seen so far here I would love to see this project come off and would like to express my interest in a purchase if it does ;)
I would love to see pump pushers as opposed to screw down (maybe a option at purchase?) and of course a Valijoux 72.
Good luck with this and I will be watching very closely!
Cheers.
Hiya RM ;)
Just from memory, the Valijoux 72 was used in alot of old vintage chronograph watches including the vintage Rolex Daytona's. Rolex of course tarted it up a bit and called it the 726 if I recall. There have been a few versions of it with the 72 proceeded with a 6, 7, 9 etc which added different complications or layout's?
It is a handwind movement with 3 subdials at the 3, 6 & 9 position. Running seconds at the 6 position.
Not having a auto wind bridge bolted on top of the movement makes it quite slim and by todays standard it's diameter is small also. This is what I am interested in as today's chronographs just look massive on my skinny wrist!
Do a search on eBay (valijoux 72) and you will find it in various watches including many vintage Heuer's
Thanks Jaycey, very informative.
I have also been looking for a sensibly sized chrono. I'm thinking that this one might fit the bill, and hoping that I will have the funds for it when it's finally released.
Eddie,
Any update on this most exciting project?
Any news? Will it be ready this year? Next year? Really looking forward to this one
It won't be this year, too much cash laid out on current projects.
Eddie
Whole chunks of my life come under the heading "it seemed like a good idea at the time".
How many would you plan to make? How many movements are available?
Sorry if that has been discussed elsewhere, I couldn't find it...
Yes Sir! It still is in the Speedmaster Professional.

Eddie, would you be using the "standard" movement, or would you plan to replace the (actually pretty ugly) delrin brake with a proper metal part (like the Omega's with the same mvt and sapphire caseback)?
It may be rather obvious but can I respectfully reserve number 2

On the Omega Speedy the brake is still a plastic part...it is just vacuum chrome or rodium plated. If it was steel or plated brass it would wear out the teeth much too quickly. It's delrin for a good reason!
Dare I ask - is this still a possibility Eddie? 2015 perhaps?.......
best wishes for Christmas and 2015.

I'm ashamed to say I've just seen this post. Faceted hands and markers render reading the time much easier in all but pitch darkness achievable. I have a Dunhill DM7 and it's so easy to read. Flat silvered hands tend to reflect the underside of the crystal and can make the hands disappear. This happens with my Speedbird 1903 sometimes.
I saw a posting for an Omega Speedmaster panda dial for sale and checked back on this thread just yesterday. Hope it goes to production.
Cheers
I absolutely love this watch, Put my name on the list for one please, :-)
How about a James Hunt connection?
Or some other British motorsport inspired theme, BRM, McLaren, Lotus.....Lord Hesketh even?
This is so cool being allowed input through a forum on such things, :-)
Lovely watch
I have been wanting the Seiko Brightz SDGZ013 for a while, and whilst it's certainly no homage to anything else, it has similar tones - but I am really liking the idea of that Smiths, looks seriously stylish and I have definitely missed a hand-winding chrono since my speedie went a few years ago.
I'm so bloody impatient once I start itching for any watch, but if this one comes off soon enough I would jump on it.
(If there is a list for these, and there's still room - please put me on it!)
This is exactly what i've been looking for but I can almost certainly say it won't be in my price range.
Is there still hope for this one Eddie? I have to say my interest doubled with the possibility of the lemania movement... and I was pretty excited already.
How about pre-orders to raise some capital? You could call it a plank system or something!
I know this is not your favoured business model, but it is shame to see the more ambitious projects put to the back of the queue.
Alternatively, send me a watch. I'll pay you in three years

Thanks on that, Glamdring, and flat silvered hands disappearing under the reflected glare (which would also be silverish) from the crystal held at certain angles makes perfect sense. It also makes me wonder if domed crystals would help mitigate the effect and/or if changing to a polished gold finish for the flat hands might make them show through crystal glare a bit better. Thanks again, Rollon
Dredged up from the past in hopes that this project has not suffered a needless death...
I hope it can be real one day...I would be on list to have one of this beauty!
Likey likey. Is this one still gestating?
