Oh yes, I really like that. :-)
Due out on October 12th in Japan, the SDGA005 Star Wars R2-D2 Seiko EPD. 120000 yen excluding tax.
A cynic might say Seiko have found a way to offload 1000 of their expensive mk1 EPD watches with this tie-in J
I’ve resisted buying one ‘til now, but this is probably all the incentive I needed, so congratulations to Seiko for a job well done. Will they go into normal production once the 1000 are gone I wonder?

I don't like Star Wars, I don't like Digital watches.
I like that.
i think, as a star wars geek.. thats going to be a must have
Checked out the others Vader looks OK I think more could have been done. If those are the prices WAY to expensive for a Seiko as far as I am concerned.
Some of the other models do look quite cool, especially the backs. Shame i am not a Star Wars fan!
As I wrote in my review of the EPD, it is not a digital format watch but the first free format watch.
The SDGA001-3 had the card deck and world time modes to illustrate that.
To stárt with a Lupin or StarTrek format would have been several bridges too far for wisdom.
Gó for it guys; a3vt!
The watch and technology inside are functional, reliable and REAL rugged.
I realy hope to see this one added to the review by one of you.
I,d feel a right cnut wearing one of those i wonder if they will do a spongebob version.
I'd love one of those epd watches - not sure if I could pull off that one but they're awesome little bits of kit
WANT.
Stupid 10char limit.

I'm interested in this, i wonder if it'll run the normal EPD displays as well as the star wars displays, as in will it show the cards and world timer etc if i want it too?
Cos if it does!! I am defiantly going to Nerd up my wrist for this..
My guess is that it will at least still show the world timer, basic HH:MM and 60 seconds HH:MM:SS modes.

Of all the Star War releases, I think the R2-D2 is the best one of the lot. However with a street price of 1200 USD from Higuchi, seems to me this EPD display is too bloody expensive. The regular version SDGA001 can be had for 1000 USD.
My money right now is on the Astron GPS. Love the R2-D2 but I just don't see 1200 USD worth of watch there....
Which is why they have an uplift.
Like with the ´limited´ speedies it aims at the preference of sóme who think the limited edition theme worth the uplift.
It is again about the added value of an added value that has nothing to do with the product as a wátch.
As japanese watch specialist you will know that jdm limited editions traditionally do VERY well in japana; it is like a black hole for it.
The higher end ones also are about sure to at least retain value and very rarely appear on the second hand market. If one does it usually goes straight back in again.
If someone wants it for the theme he best be fast.

That's a nice looking watch but even as a Star Wars fan, I'm not sure I could bring myself to wear one. Just not my thing I guess
The one escalon lower positioned SBPA007 ´Lupin´ limited edition was frowned upon even more yet sold out fást as a compairable uplift.
It is a specific theme so very few will like it enough to want it. Historically ´few´ will outstrip the supply though, so the fans outside of japan who want one nééd to pre-order.
In my experience Higuchi offers the best price and has great service.
As a wátch the SDGA00x offers great product value for the money. The ´limited´ thing is a percieved added value.
I do get the ´limited´ thing itself, just not thís theme. I very well might a different theme in ´gold´ colour and buy a sundays only companion to my steel beater ´00´ EPD.
I like that, but not for that much money

Somebody braver than me has taken the plunge with an ebay pre-order for £899.67, plus import duties if they're unlucky (or honest).
I took a closer look at the pictures and realized that "Star Wars" seems to be permanently written on the case front.
Then I thought to myself, this watch would have been great if it had been around at the time in 1977/8, but honestly today, I think I would prefer a "normal" sdga001 first EPD watch from Seiko, especially as they can be bought for about £600 now.
These are the other Seiko Star Wars specials
Back in the winter of 1978, I found a TI Star Wars LED half-buried in the snow on the village school playing field that belonged to one of my friends, so I gave it back, much to their delight. But for those brief moments when I had it in my hands I thought it was quite cool, but not as cool as the metal cased “Bionic Quartz” LED with replacement metal bracelet I was wearing ;)

I'm only interested if one of the buttons projects a holographic princess Leia across the room.
"Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope!"
Have just 'won' one of these on Ebay. Can't wait for it to arrive.
These must be aimed at pre teen boys, surely nobody else would be seen with "Star wars" written on the front of their watch.
From another Seiko thread today. Seems it's true! He's in every Rolex thread claiming the 'haters' and the 'seiko crowd' will be along any minute to ruin his fun (long before they get there), and he pops up in every seiko thread to proclaim their awfulness to everyone.
Only for those for whom ´Seiko´ is not aspirational anyway.
Have a look at the Astro Boy; 6K$ in 2010, immediately sold out and unobtanium today.

I suppose it is the same as with the more ´extreme´ Corum watches. It helps taking oneself not too seriously.
Not taking ones self seriously is about not giving too many hoots what people think. There is a massive gap of normality between this and trying too hard to 'not care' or suffering a full-on extrovert nerdurism.

It took me time to get the Corums
Now there are several I would wear though none of the traditional serious looking ones.
Rather sad that general wis-dom is too conventional and ownership of Corum is now Chinese.
The kind of weírd four pillar case of the Galante adds an extra imo.
I found it striking that this design was copied for cheapish boutique watches almost immediately. Alas without the humor.
Somebody only pops up on threads to destroy them.
As usual no meaningful input just to stir up things.
Maybe R2D2 can laser him or something..............
Daddel.
Got a new watch, divers watch it is, had to drown the bastard to get it!
Taking yourself not too seriously is fun Daddel.
As Danny Crane said;
´It is fun being me. Is it fun being you?´
He, Petrus, steady on there, you can't accuse me of ever taking myself seriously.............

Perception is reality.
In mý perception that was a shámefull show beyond sour buyer´s grapes.
I still feel really bad for Daddel about that despite the support he received from longer standing bona fide members.
Your response here about that does not compliment you Sir. It sides you with the culprits.
Anyway, back to the fun; I am trying to get a bid in on an Arsene Lupin EPD
Start making some sensible input in other than Rolex/Seiko threads and you will be fine.
Even a photo by Jocke, and you try to make it into a Rolex/Seiko thing, ffs, the man just posts a Rolex pic!!
You are only looking for trouble, I never see your name pop up in a "normal" thread, you pick them out, and start spoiling them
Trollybolly.

Well if you are following my posts as some kind of weird moderator then you have missed at least two Seiko threads in the last fortnight where I have given the watches nothing but praise. The point of the forum is that we are able to offer our opinions on what we see, too often people only want to hear only the good stuff, but it works better when all voices can be heard, take any of my incoming posts, I always ask for comments good or bad, and I give my opinion as I see it. If this is not to your liking then you might want to use the ignore function.
I saw these on the net somewhere over a year ago, amazed they have only just been released. I think they're really fun in a nerdy way - I can imagine many a youngster or older Star Wars fan loving them as either a serious watch or a weekend wearer - a kind of update 'Mickey mouse' watch. Re the comment about football branded watches, I am aware football exists but have zero interest in it, but love a bit of retro 70's Star Wars - don't see how either cheapen a brand when everyone has their own tastes/interests
I love the look of them, but I can't see me ever buying one for that price - I see them more as the James Bond digital watches from my youth, so I'm probably too old now.
My only interest in football is that not authorised team shirts of Barcelona are WAY cheaper and last longer than my son takes to grow out of them.
For the rest I don´t see the difference between a ´Barcelona´ Seiko or a ´Wallmart´ (or ´Comex´) Rolex.
Less still do I get what it has to do with this final edition Mk1 EPD.
Thát is what it in effect is and why it was delayed RobDad; a final edition.
Remember that there is NOTHING coincidal about this watch.
