Please Note: It is possible that Griswold may know nothing whatsoever about horology. It's even possible that he has never even owned a watch. It is also highly possible the he has a strange imagination. His wife insists he would be far better off paying more attention to taking his medication on time.

Thanks Bob. I was just trying out my new 100-400 + 1.4x converter for night shots. Hand held quick snapshot with slight contrast adjustment in post. Quite pleased really at 1/200 sec and no tripod. Plan to try again with the setup on a tripod, when we get another clear night, should get more detail methinks.

I've dabbled with lunar shots Peter, but the longest I can go is my 70-200L/IS 2.8 MkII with a 2x TC, a cracking lens but too much of a crop needed. Might try the 2x and 1.4x together and see what I can get. On the 7D, with it's 1.6 crop factor that's getting towards an effective 900mm. Your shot's all the better for being hand held!

Thanks again Bob. I'm currently shooting Fuji, (XT-3) which is APSC so a crop factor of 1.5. The 400mm end of my 100-400 with the 1.4x converter makes it a 560mm lens but given the APSC crop factor it's equivalent to an 840mm in 135 format. Even then I had to do quite a bit of cropping. The 2x plus 1.4x combination on your setup should make an interesting combination, there'll be a loss of a couple of f stops, but given how bright the moon is and you're starting out at f2.8 that shouldn't present any kind of a problem at all.
