Thread: Seadweller or sub which one?

  1. #51
Conversely, I actually find the SD more comfortable than my Subs (not that they are particularly uncomfortable), particularly when worn on a NATO, as the deeper case back prevents the crown from digging into my wrist quite so much. Never found it top heavy either, which is a common criticism of the watch, mainly due to having the strap / bracelet adjusted correctly (tight enough) I suppose.

Mind, I'm not quite sure how a SD can be described as absurd due (in part) to its 4000ft WR, but a 16610 LV @ 1000ft is not...???

Both are great, but the Sea Dweller for me.

My primary reason for selling the watch was that they are noticeably less comfortable than other models and there is an element of pointless Walter Mitty about them. They are a brilliant watch and absolutely fine if you really are a commercial saturation diver but if you are just an office worker and go scuba diving to 30M when you are on holiday then you may as well be dressing up in a Spiderman costume or drive a Nasa Moon Buggy to work. The Deepsea version is clearly the most silly, Walter Mitty watch in the Rolex line up and complete overkill even if you are a saturation diver - so I reserve the full force of my ridicule for that but the SD is still more than a little absurd. I would without the slightest hesitation choose the 16610 LV over an SD but prefer other models (and lets stop kidding ourselves - all are fine for basic recreational diving).
Most people would say spending thousands on any watch is complete overkill.

    Seadweller or sub which one?

I've had both, sold the SD as the dial looked oddly small, and it wore less comfortably than any other Sub due to the higher profile of the caseback. In real life it's no 'tougher' than a Sub as it runs the same movement. I have no problem with the date bubble and now wear an LV daily.
To be honest it felt a bit silly wearing a deep sea divers watch with a crazy depth rating for no reason. I also think 4x4's look ridiculous being driven around London though so perhaps it's just me ;-)

It took me 5 years to decide and ended up with the Seadweller.

I don't do any diving at all. The only swimming I've done in the last 5 years has been Pool and a week of sea. My GMT 2 handled all that fine. Doesn't stop me wanting a dweller though.

By some of the above arguments I almost feel that having a SD is overkill, but them so is a sub and so is a Prs11.

I would drive a range rover round London all day long though. They are awesome!

Whichever one floats your boat. They're both fantastic in their own unique way.

Your not one of the peasants mate. Your membership here raises you above the common mob, whatever your financial resources. You don't even have to own one to appreciate them and IMHO that's the most important thing. :-)

Sub definitely, it sits better on the wrist than the SD.

Sub for the comfort for me.

  19. #69
Haven't voted because it would be hypocritical of me ;)

In the past, I swore that having a Sub was best but now I wear a SDc!

IMO, you can't go wrong with whichever one you go for.

No worries - got to have these people up front and centre. People will get caught out big time if we don't keep it keen.

My girlfriend recons the SD is too chunky for my wrist but I'm not crediting her with any taste when it comes to watches!

Still though my vote would be for the Sub
