Oops, got a bit carried away on ebay....

...however I think I have a decent enough result. I had been bidding on a Japanese site (5034 positive feed backs !!??) for a Pre Moon 863, which ended up going for twice what I then paid for a 3570.50 I noticed in their "shop" and simultaneously bid for.

The bid I put on was a bit tongue in cheek as I expect to loose, but it won, then with the exchange rate, delivery AND getting caught by HM C&E (why weren't they out looking for the Cameroon & Congo Olympic defectors!!) it ended up probably a tad pricey. Hey Ho.

But its a nice watch, and I did kinder have a strap awaiting the arrival at some time of a Speedy Pro black dial!

Hate when that happens. I've learned that all bids that are in the lead can potentially win. But sweet watch though.

It is a nice watch, but there's a clear lesson re. buying from overseas. Usually, it isn`t worth it unless the watch is particularly rare.

In the good old days of $2 = £1 and a good likelihood of beating Customs, I did all my buying from US ebay and had some good results. Most got sold on at a profit but I picked up a couple of real gems for my own collection. Around 2005-2007 was the best time; plenty of vintage Omegas at very good prices.

That's the one http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI...E:L:OU:GB:3160 which was about £1650 conversation on the site, but worked out more on the day at paypal!

Then there was delivery, and Dick Turpin in customs £105 .............

    Keep smiling

    Definitely a lovely classic.

Whilst ebay sometimes gets a bad press here, and there is no doubt that watch price have firmed up and the days of bargains are long gone, with careful research on the seller there are some nice watches on the bay.

Very nice and even nicer to hear an EBay success story.
The thing I like most about the speedy is that I must've seen it on every conceivable type of strap - rubber, leather in all colours with all different kinds of stitching, metal, Velcro, NATO, and it looks good on ALL of them.
    A true classic all rounder.

    Buying from Japan

I've bought a few watches from Japan, I find that Rakuten is cheaper than ebay, prices for secondhand watches in Japan is much lower than here or US

however not that many sellers on there will ship overseas, luckily I have family there to receive the watch!

That strap would look great on a lot of watches, and is just what some watches like the speedy pro need to dress them down a bit. It looks perfect to go with jeans and a sweater in the evening. Maybe stay in tonight though - apparently Hurricane Charlie is coming back to visit!

Well I think you are right, this is the 2nd Omega I have got from the 'bay, but the first from out of the UK. Looking at their listings in this particular site, all their Speedmasters looked in pretty good fettle. And whilst I am still not sure if £1.8K at the end of the delivery scenario was a bit much, the actual watch looks even better now I have it in the flesh so to speak! in fact it looks quite new. And of course there is (we hope) always paypal protection to fall back on if the listing is a bit wrong!!

And now on a Hirsch Mobile

Just loving the Leonardo fitting on the Hirsch straps.

I agree it does look great on the Leonardo. I quite like those curved end straps!
    Was it difficult to fit?

Not really, but I do have 2 others on watches so am used to moving the little insert around in the strap pin end till it the strap fits snug on the watch case. Have to choose a setting that makes it a bit hard to get the pin to sit back in the lug hole, that keeps the strap up tight!

Lovely watch I would go for the Leonardo strap, it looks very smart.

    Nice catch. Congratulations.
