    In praise of the PRS-18A

On a bit of an impulse, I picked up a nearly new 18A a week or so back and I have to say that I'm really impressed.

I'd often looked at these, but never taken the plunge. Maybe it was the size (is it too small?) or the bezel (is it too tall?) or the asymmetric case (is it a bit weird?).

What a good decision, though. This has hardly been off the wrist since it arrived and it somehow just feels 'right'. I realise that isn't the basis for an objective review, so here's some observations...

The quality is, as you might expect, superb. Finish and build seem A+ and it feels quite special.

The bead-blasted finish is lovely - really helps to define the distinctive curves. And it looks a treat, IMHO, on a grey nato.

Talking of curves; it sits perfectly on my 7.25" wrist - really comfortable - and despite my concerns, the size is just perfect (see pic below). It's far from big, but nowhere near small!

I'm no lume fanatic ...but the lume is amazing, and seems to last all night.

A WIS friend asked me if it wasn't "a bit boxy". My reply was that I guess it is, but that I see it as a bit of 'slightly awkward charm'.

The PRS-18A is a fabulous watch. If you're hesitating; just go for it - I don't think you'll regret it.

Anyhow, here's a couple of gratuitous photos to finish.

Great shots... really give a nice view of the case. I really love the 18, but have been dithering. Can't decided whether to get an A or Q. Looks like a great grab and go watch for the Q - but think it would look great with the sweep too. Tricky... why does Eddie have to give these choices!?!!!?

I bought the "Q" as I think the movement is more suited to this type of watch. The second hand goes nowhere near the markers though so if that sort of thing bothers you get the "A". Both are amazing though. My current favourite of my small TF collection.

Bought one earlier in the year. Truly superb watches. Great quality and VfM. I have mine on a black NATO but the grey NATO looks even better.

I agree it's a great watch although for some reason I flipped mine, I had an "A" with the ETA movement. I really liked the bead-blasted finish too, it's especially good at resisting scratches.

I've had mine for over 2 years and it would take something really special for me to sell it. Cracking watch.

    Couldn't agree...

more with Draygo. I had one and sold it, but had to have it again. I got another via
trade last week and work it for about 4 days straight, which is unusal for me.
    It is perfectly executed.

    Cool

Love the PRS-18. Started with an "A" and then later on got a "Q" also!

Plus I have one of these hanging around!

Never get tired of that watch!

Here it is on the Bonetto Cinturini #281, which comes notched at the lugs, so it wears just like a 22mm.
