Just finished watching Gomorrah in Netflix. Dark, brooding and even grittier than Sopranos.

Not sure if its already been mentioned, but I watched "Grimsby", or "Brothers Grimby", can't remember which.

Sasha Bara Cohen, and some archetypal Brit hard man.

Some very amusing scenes in it, overall, a good watch!

'71 (a thriller about a soldier detached from his regiment in belfast during the troubles, incredibly tense, great thriller )
the man from uncle ( the modern remake, very funny and i spent far too long adoring the man characters suits :) )
    both worth a watch

Nothing too new recently but caught up on a few films I've been meaning to watch for ages: -
Hobbit | Five Armies = great film / sound / images and the end of a great saga
Martian = really enjoyed this and cinematography / sound was impressive
Prometheus = this gets mixed reviews but was a good film with a few nice touches to Alien
The Babadook = this file gave me the frights (even though the other half thought it was comical), really made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end

Waiting for the Revenant Bluray to arrive next Monday, although I think the other half has watched it on a recent flight to NYC.

Watched Lone Survivor last night on Netflix. It was pretty good. Reminded me of a war version of Touching the Void, watch it and you'll know what I mean.

Anyone watched any good movies recently?

I watched "13 Hours : The Secret Solders of Benghazi" last night.
It's based on a true story. I enjoyed it, lots of guns , explosions etc. I thought it was a bit long at 2.5 hrs though.

    Another recommendation for 13 Hours.

The IT guy Sean Smith, was an active and prominent EVE Online player (as the character Vile Rat). I didn't know him personally, but knew of him. On the day of the attack, he actually sent this message:

"(12:54:09 PM) vile_rat: assuming we don't die tonight. We saw one of our 'police' that guard the compound taking pictures"

This is a tribute written by his friend the day after the attack: https://www.themittani.com/news/rip-vile-rat

    The Big Short

An idiots guide to the 2008 financial market crash - Christian Bale (brilliant) as Mike Burry the man who predicted the crash in 2005. Very thought provoking and quite funny in some parts.

Excellent and knocked the Hateful 8 and Reverent in to a cocked hat IMHO (I was on a very long flight today)

The Big Short 8/10 - IMO the best film about greed/stock market/banking corporation since Wall Street.
The Hateful Eight 8/10 - A very good Western but getting a bit off putting using the same actors all the time (Jackson & Roth).
The Reverent 5/10 - Unbelievable that Di Caprio got a Best Actor Oscar for gurning and speaking through gritted teeth, I personally thought he was better in Django Unchained.

Watched "44 inch chest" last night.

Great film and funny with some fantastic acting. I'm a big fan of Ray winstone and uk gangster type films so I might be a bit biased.

Better than the IMDb ratings imo.

Watched 13 hours which was very good, if not a little long for a film we started at 10.

Spotlight was very good, as was the Big Short, I enjoyed Steve Carrells character the most. It's up there with Margin Call

My wife watched Room recently and said it was very good

Watched True Story. It's on Sky movies now and has a 2 star rating. So much for the ratings game, this is a good film, in my opinion.

Last week we watched In Darkness; a true story of a group of escapees from the Lvov ghetto who hid in the city sewers with the collusion of one of the maintenance workers. Good performances all round with quite a multi-national cast; the film is in Yiddish, German, Polish and Ukrainian. A real tour-de-force from the director, Agnieszka Holland.

    Watched Legend last night.

Quite enjoyed it (big fan of Hardy). Bit different to what I expected this time. But a good watch nonetheless

    I saw that recently.

I do think his depiction of Ron was a great comedy turn.

Got an email from Netflix about a new movie they added The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies. I thought that will be a grim tale and it was. Left me feeling ashamed. I remember at the time thinking he looks like a weirdo so must have done it.
One of those movies all should see once.

Yes, it's good isn't it! I think it was a mini series on tv a few years ago.

Jason Watkins plays a cracking part.

This was originally shown on one of the main channels (ITV?) a couple of years ago IIRC. I remember watching it and having similar feelings........

Worth a watch if you like gorey video games but can't be bothered to play one :)
I took the wife to see this and within 15 minutes it gave her a headache and I must admit I had one by the end due to the incessant jerky camera movement. It was a clever idea though and quite a niche film judging by the fact there was only one other person in the cinema besides us.

Watched this the other night - Fathers day gift on DVD from the kids.
Thought it was really well done and not far off the book (which I finished a couple of weeks back).
    Even the wife enjoyed it!

"The programme" is worth a watch, the rise and fall of lance Armstrong. Ben foster plays lance and does a good job imo.

    It's on Amazon prime.

I watched this last week too. Low budget. But it was interesting - but probably only to 'Tour' fans.

Funny enough I'm not a cycling fan at all but found it interesting what lengths he was willing to go to win, albeit highly illegal 😂😂

The Conjuring 1 was easily one of the best modern horror films I've seen.

Is the second based on the poltergeist in London in the 60s?
