Clearly TAG Heuer wasted their product placement budget then.

Saw some interesting ones in the past few days:

A Simple Plan (1998), directed by Sam Raimi - a minor masterpiece

Carnage (2011), directed by Roman Polanski - amusing and very believable behaviour of four "adults"

Heist (2001), directed by David Mamet - with an evil Danny DeVito and a dependable Gene Hackman

and Haywire (2011), directed by Steven Soderbergh; I am now a little smitten by martial arts star Gina Carano.

Of course, smitten with - thanks. She's got a great figure, but I'm also glad her lovely face has (so far) survived the blows and kicks she must have received in her MMA career.

Excellent film. Shows how you can tell a story in under 90 minutes if you cut away the fat.

And the way the films builds and maintains suspense is excellent—just walking down the street becomes a nail-biting affair.

Watched "The Hitcher" (again) from 1986 tonight. Rutger Hauer was more evil than he was as Roy Batty in "Blade Runner!"

I saw The Big Short on the Monday. A docupic about the financial collapse of the world in 2008. I work in banking and I thoroughly enjoyed the film, it made a dull (but interesting to me) subject really enjoyable. SWMBO didn't understand much of the phraseology, but really liked the film.

I thought Christian Bale put in a superb performance.

    It's well worth a watch.

The Revenant was a superb experience. An easy 10/10 for me and highly recommended.

    Lightbulb

3096 days. A film about the kidnap of Natascha Kampusch who was held captive for the amount of days of the film name.

Very sad and dark at times. Some dark stories to read up on post film too.

Revenant - watched this last night and really enjoyed it.

The Big Short - Watched this the other night. I thought it was a great film showing the build up and downfall of the US housing market , bank crashes etc. It has a lot of big names in the cast.

Margin Call - I tell everyone about this movie. I watched this a few years ago. Again its about the financial crash in the US. This was released in 2011 so was way ahead of the game compared to "The Big Short". This movie has a big cast featuring Spacey, Bettany, Irons , Tucci... to name but a few.

    Good ones this week:

Fast and Furious 6 - Actually very good! They've sort of hit their stride with these now, plus the Israeli girl is stunning and there's a Jensen Interceptor in it. It has caused me to realise something though - the F&F movies are not released in chronological order. Chronologically, they go 1,2,4,5,6,3,7. Who'd-a-thunk-it.

Mission Impossible Rogue Nation - As good as Ghost Protocol but still not a patch on MI:2. Simon Pegg wears the latest T-Touch Expert Solar and a GW-A1100.

Valley Uprising - documentary/movie on the rise of climbing in the Yosemite National park. Excellent but of no interest to non-climbers really.

Watched Everest last night - flippin' brilliant!
Found myself willing the climbers on.

Also made me realise that it's an amazingly selfish pursuit - especially when you look at the sucess rates.

I also enjoyed 'Summit' on Netflix, documentarising a similarly ill-fated expedition to K2. It turns out Everest is the relatively easy mountain. K2 is a killer.

    We have similar tastes!

    1) (Revenant) saw it last night - LOVED IT!

    2) (Big Short) read the book few years ago & really, really enjoyed it, so am looking forwards to the film despite hearing it's not so good

    3) (Margin Call) one of my favourite films - it's no Casablanca, but it's one of the few DVDs that I come back to and watch every 4-6 months or so. Better than Wall Street, I think.

    The wolf of wall street

Watched this a couple of evenings ago and absolutely loved it ( and Margot Robbie)
Favourite scene has to be the drive back from the country club in the white Lamborghini after the ludes kick in, amazing how he made it unscathed!

I watched the NWA movie "straight outta Compton" last night.

I was gripped, even though I knew 95% of the story as I was a teenager when they took the world by storm in 1989-1992!

Those guys were instrumental in so many acts making records....

The guys playing the rappers were great but both the Eric wright actor and ice cubes son (playing ice cube) were amazing, and Paul Giamatti as they're manager was good too.
