Just watched it. I had high expectation, yet it did not disappoint. Can't remember the last time this happened, must have been a while. Bit surprising that most articles/reviews i had read about it zoned in on the fact that the tough female cop place such a central role (can't remember the name of the actress, or female actor for the Guardian readers). I expected her to be more of a driving part of the story. Del Toro was absolutely phenomenal. Really good film.

    Reality (Italian film)

    Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.

And the lead actor reminded me very much (visually) of a young Rocky!

Snoopy And Charlie Brown: The Peanuts Movie

Went to see it today with the kids and have to say we all enjoyed it immensely.
From the way it's animated to the story and humour - just right and like vintage Schulz.

It's a bit long in places but if you ever read and loved the cartoon strip - it's a must see!
A real nostalgia trip for us parents and a great introduction to Snoopy and the gang for the kids! Recommended!

The past week, Dutch TV aired the Millennium Trilogy again. The Swedish version, not the English drivel. (Not making friends here). It is one of the best films of the last decade. Noomi Rapace is a fantastic actress. However, when I see her in Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes, she's not that good. I wonder why. Perhaps because the Millennium movies are in her own language?

I forgot just how good 'The Lego Movie' is till I watched it again yesterday.

"President Business is going to end the world? But he's such a nice guy! And Octan, they make good stuff: dairy products, TV shows, coffee, surveillance cameras, all history books, voting machines... wait a minute."

"Here in Cloud Cuckoo Land, there are no rules! There's no government, no babysitters, no bedtimes, no frowny faces, no bushy mustaches, and no negativity of any kind."
    — "You just said the word 'no', like, a thousand times."
    "And there's also no consistency!"

"Believe. I know that sounds like a cat poster, but it's true."

Not a film but just finished watching Making a Murderer, a 10 part documentary on Netflix.

One of the best things I've seen but it's not an easy watch, had me shouting a the TV throughout

    +1 hopefully there'll be a new saga.

Another mention for Boyhood. I loved the concept of the film being shot over 12 years with the cast ageing before your eyes and I thought it was brilliantly executed. This film was the perfect antidote to the countless Hollywood blockbusters that are ruined by ridiculous storylines & plot holes as wide as Victoria Falls.

I had a piece of Apocalypto last weekend and also did Sicario in the week.
I wasn't disappointed with either really.

Purely by chance I caught The Great & Powerful Oz the other day on TV

I hadn't been aware of this 2013 prequel to The Wizard Of Oz previously

Its a beautifully produced piece that really captures the look and feel of the original well even down to the B&W opening sequence

A great film for everyone - not just friends of Dorothy

In the Fog (or, as it is a film in Russian with English subtitles - "В Tумане")

Pretty harrowing WW2 drama about collaboration in times of war (specifically the Western front in the former USSR, 1942).

More visual than wordy. I would highly recommend it.

That looks interesting - is DVD/Blu Ray the only format or is it on one of the obvious streaming services?

I watched oldboy 2013 the other night. A good remake and worth a watch but the original won the cannes film festival and so its hard to compete.

I also watched 'fire come walk with me' twin peaks film, again. Excellent, especially if you like the series.

I'd like to tell you my wife dragged me to see this one, but it was actually the other way around. I'd read a couple four-star reviews and thought hmmm, I love Cate Blanchett, I love Rooney Mara, I sure don't mind a little 'girl-on-girl' - - looks like a winner to me!
It was! A bit slow moving, but if you drink it all in, you savour the full taste. GREAT movie on ALL counts!

Last week I watched the Robert McNamara documentary; The Fog of War. Given the importance of his role during, for example, the Cuban missile crisis and the Vietnam war this would be really worth watching anyway but his intellectual competence, together with his candour, really makes it worthwhile. The point at which he admits that, if the US had lost WWII, both he and Curtis LeMay would have been hung, arguably correctly, as war criminals for the fire-bombing of Tokyo is a defining moment. A very compelling watch and all rounded off with an excellent soundtrack by Philip Glass.

Bridge Of Spies is excellent !

I am struggling to think of a bad film starring Tom Hanks... he obviously picks his films carefully.

Struggle no longer. You've got mail.

But all in all, as you say, great actor, and top film.

Been said on here before, but I have just seen Kingsmen on sky. Great rollicking adventure!

I saw this last night, not a film I would have chosen to see, but I'm glad I did. I saw it as part of an unseen screening. This is where you pay your money without knowing what they're about to screen.

Anyway, it was a decent film with some lovely cinema photography. It was like an extreme version of survivor with Bear Grills. Tom Hardy put in an excellent performance to.

I think Kermode's review (below) probably describes it better than I could. Well worth a watch, and currently free with Amazon Prime streaming.

I just finished watching "Blade Runner" for the first time since seeing it on the big screen when it was released in 1982. Exceptional! It was selected in 1993 for preservation in the United States Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."

Brilliant film if you haven't already seen it although I guess most have.

Sicario - a good film but very close to being a great film
The Martian - a solid good sci-fi film, read the book and both good works in their own right.
Mississippi Grind - not bad if you like degerate gambling road films - slow but well acted.

I couldn't agree more with all of your summaries here after watching these films over the last few weeks. I haven't read the Martian but thought Matt Damon was good in the film and I'm not particularly a fan of him.

We saw The Revenant the other evening. An excellent film I can't recommend enough. Some scenes were excellent if a tad brutal!

A close friend ( not in the industry ) said she thought of me when she watched this film, but I admit I hadn't seen it until now. It just popped up on Netflix so I spent 3 enjoyable hours in the mayhem, indulgence and excess of The Wolf of Wall Street.

DiCaprio wears a gold GMT Master, but you won't notice him or his watch in any scene featuring Margot Robbie.

(Here shown in a rare clothed moment)
