Thread: Anyone watched any good movies recently?

  1. #2651
A bit of a niche film, but if you are interested in Winter sports at all give 'The Crash Reel' a watch.

It's a serious and very heart wrenching movie that shows the effect of an accident on not only the athlete, but those around them

Watched Amy last night. Superb movie and still with me this morning. I had forgotten (or never really knew I guess) how genuinely talented she was and ultimately how tragic she was. Didn't have any real interest in her but its s really captivating movie.

We watched Brooklyn last night. It got rave reviews. The acting of the lead character was really good. The story was sweet and sad. We both thought it was too sweet. My wife thought it wasn't nearly sad enough. I think it would have been improved by a short view of Godzilla towards the end, with the final scene being Godzilla's foot smashing down on the main characters, à la Godzilla meets Bambi. However, I can image that it would be very popular with people who like sweet, sad and sentimental.

The cinema, Everyman Cinema at the Mailbox (Birmingham), was cool.

    Best wishes,
    Bob

Crimson Peak - loved it (but am a fan of all gothic / Dickens / Victorian style things)

Ex Machina.. An excellent sci-fi film, well worth seeing. (I saw it on a recent BA flight to the States).

Agree - saw it at the cinema - brilliant film, though I personally felt the two main males were woefully miscast.

That's just become available on Sky Movies, we were gonna watch it last night but Mrs wanted to watch DIY SOS Big Build instead... Will get round to watching it soon but good to hear it's a good watch :-)

I had hoped that it would be good but I only lasted an hour before switching it off, not my cup of tea.

Watched "Kung Fury" last night on Netflix. Only half an hour long and absolutely crazy - if you like 80s throwback cop/kung fu movies then we'll worth half an hour of your time

If there were an Oscar for best film title, this would be a strong contender.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E - a good way to while away a boring Monday night!

Crimson Peak on Monday - BRILLIANT

Spectre on Wednesday - disappointing, and even with liberal suspension of disbelief found it hard to believe

Steve Jobs later today - nothing else on I want to see, but I do like Fassbender and that's the main draw for me

An absolute classic. One or two holes in the plot, of course, but some great one-liners in there.

Steve Jobs - I hadnt read any reviews before I went, so had no idea what to expect. Found it disappointing though to be fair it did hold my attention and I didnt find myself looking at my watch. Definitely the film I imagined it might have been (but then it's called "Steve Jobs" not "Apple"). Meh.

Black Mass, Johnny Depp gives an Oscar worthy performance as a psychotic gangster.

Anyone watched any good movies recently?

Watched Lambert & Stamp on the flight today.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3458236/

I like The Who - so I really enjoyed finding out about their early years.

Watched Kingsmen last night. I really did enjoy it, plus I loved the tongue in cheek dig at Bond.

Not seen Touching Evil but the others are all great classics and some of my favourite films. The Big Sleep possibly my all time favourite.

Snap, I saw the man from U.N.C.L.E last night as well. It was better than I'd thought it would be and I quite enjoyed it. I think I may have to give Wolf Cop a miss though!

Got this ages ago but never got around to watching it. Now I'm king of the remote to control I'm going to give it a go.

    The Lady in The Van

Thoroughly enjoyed it. As ever, Maggie Smith's performance was mind blowing.

Anyone who enjoyed the book as much as me would certainly love the film.

    Black Mass

Not a bad film, not sure what the point of it was though?

A firm meh from me. Maybe I'm being a little harsh - it's probably a bit better than "meh".

Johnny Depp trying to do Ray Liotta wasnt too bad I suppose. But he's no Ray Liotta. Seemed too much like a second rate Goodfellas-for-2015 to me.

Not a movie but a series. The Man in the High Castle. This is s series set in a dystopian world where the Nazis won WW2 and the USA is split into three sectors, Japanese, Reich and a neutral section. It is available on Amazon but I have been watching it on Putlocker as I don't have an Amazon Prime account. Well worth a look!

Do you know I have a great interest in WWII history (have read many, many, many books) and of course have read the novel so I thought this was going to be my No.1 series of all time... but I just could not get into it and abandoned half way through the second episode on the preview weekend...

Perhaps I should give it another go?
