I watched Flame & Citron on Netflix. A true story about the Danish Resistance in WW2.
Exhibition - I still can't decide if this needs to go in the bad-movie thread. It's certainly the sort of arty-farty, self-indulgent, Guardian-reading introspection that can be incredibly pretentious, but it possibly got me thinking enough to be worth watching. Luckily, I've never been if the sort of relationship that the main characters are in, but it's interesting to see the tensions play out.
Cheap Thrills - I had no idea what this was about, and it turned out to be a fantastically dark comedy/drama.

Another one I watched was Coherence - if you like clever, quirky, low budget sci-fi like Primer or Time Crimes, then this is definitely worth watching.
Went to pics twice over the weekend, The Equalizer and What we did on our holiday.
Have to say the latter was an unexpected treat, very sentimental sure but also very funny.
Cheers
Kevin
A Most Wanted Man. Plenty of le Carré cynicism.
Best wishes,
Bob
Finally signed up to NETFLIX, so in between Breaking Bad this week I've caught both the Hobbit movies.
They do drag on a bit at 3 hours a piece, but just as beautiful as the LOTR trilogy.
Enjoyed End Of Watch last night.
Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena in LA patrol cops story.
Pretty fierce stuff.
Cheers,
Neil.
Dallas Buyers Club. Top cast on top form.
Michael. This was very harrowing, and the subject matter is grim, but it's well made. Not for the faint of heart at all.
"Shifty" is good.
Watched Lucy tonight, it was similar to Limitless, but with a woman lol, disappointing ending.
A good film I watched last night was A Walk Among the Tombstones. Forgive the poor title, its a good film. Liam Neeson is in it.

I expected A Walk Among the Tombstones to more of the same stuff Liam Neeson does, and although it was, it was so much more, I really enjoyed it, Lucy was kinda good as well, there will be a lot more of these 'singularity' movies in the years to come, like Transcendence with Johnny Depp
Watched a few today (other half and daughter out and hardly any football on!)...
Lucy - average at best - Scarlett Johansson looked good in it thought.
A Walk Among The Toombstones - found it really disapointing. Read the book recently and don't think it did it any justice.
Horns - Really surprised thought it was great.
Edge of Tomorrow is also really good...
Watched Starred Up, very intense violent prison drama, with some excellent performances, not the easiest of watches.
Then watched The Way Way Back, really good, funny coming of age film, Sam Rockwell excellent as usual.
Productive night haha
Cheers
Kevin
Coherence last night... bizzare, but worth a watch.
So far this week I have seen;
Lucy - great watch, fast paced, easy on the brain, disappointing ending
Dracula Untold - ok I suppose, nothing special but otherwise solid entertainment but that's all
Gone Girl - great film, great acting, but I am left none the wiser about the ending! (Maybe I'm just not smart enough, but if anyone can enlighten me...!)
Am going to watch Riot Club and Guardians of the Galaxy later this week.
I watched Edge of Darkness and Rust and Bone over the weekend. I found the first pretty standard fare a good idea (stolen from Groundhog Day) presented quite poorly, with too much VGI special effects, a pity as there is some pretty good acting in the film. Rust and Bone is superb, just superb, subtle, well acted cleverly shot a good story, character development and engrossing to the end.
The Grand Seduction. Very, very amusing.
Just back from Guardians of the Galaxy - a fantastically entertaining romp! Was 2 hours long, but I didn't look at my watch once! Fabulous!
Can someone please explain Gone Girl to me - I have listened to Kermode, and read the reviews in Total Film and Empire, but am none the wiser. Especially the ending.
^^^^ I hear Guardians of the Galaxy is great too.
Ready to buy it as soon as it appears on Blu Ray.
GOTG is really good, old school saturday afternoon movie
Gone Girl - excellent but not quite as good as the book (are they ever?)
Sex Tape - total crap, switched off after around an hour, just proves even with so called comedy actors involved, if the script and jokes are not up to it nothing can save it, watch the trailer for the only funny bits and save yourself 90 mins of your life!
The Equalizer - enjoyed this one but am a bit of a Denzel fan, nothing like the old Ed Woodward version on TV but fun nonetheless and left nicely for a sequel
Let's be Cops - enjoyable 90 mins of quite juvenile fun, my 15 year old probably enjoyed it more than me but overall worth a watch when it comes out on DVD!

I watched Parkland, about the hospital involved in the Kennedy assassination. Well worth a look.
If you're going to take the time to watch Edge of Darkness, far better to watch the original with Bob Peck; it's absolutely superb.

Do documentaries count? If so, I recently watched 'The War You Don't See' by John Pilger (2010). Utterly devastating and a must watch for the 'pro war' inclined.

I agree that Edge of Tomorrow was pretty good, especially for a big-budget blockbuster. A decent story, rather than the usual string of action set-pieces.
The Imitation Game.
I thought it was excellent. Eye opening to those that don't know of the Engima project or Turing, but still enjoyable for those of us that do.
The cast were brilliant although we've all seen the genius-with-no-social-skills character a million times before, even to some extent with BC in Sherlock. But that's the way these people can be, and it's based on the real guy, so can't be held against them.
The one thing that really wound me up, and it does with most modern films but this in particular, is the orange and teal colour grading. I was constantly being distracted by it and in particular the bright turquiose eyes.
I was reading that Edge of Tomorrow didn't do well at the box office, which means if good, original (though it's an adaptation, not a reboot/sequel) Sci-Fi films can't do well then it's a bit depressing.
Yes, Oblivion was a cut above your average sci-fi flick as well.
I've just watched After The Dark - another film I knew nothing about, and I expected it to be typical, disposable bobbins. It turned out to be really quite interesting and different. Definitely worth as watch, and best if you don't know too much about it to begin with.
Gone Girl was quite ok. Rosamund Pike was hot.
Wolf of Wall Street - just watched and now free on sky on demand if you have movies. Good film, and made 3 hours pass quickly
Runner Runner - Great film, very entertaining I thought.
Watched 5th Element with my 12 yr old last weekend. Asked what she thought of it afterwards, she said it was "OK I guess"
Have I failed as a parent?
Watched Gangster no.1 last night.
I enjoyed it.
Unnecessarily gory perhaps but good story.
I love those sort of films set in '60's London.
Cheers,
Neil.
