    No worries. Enjoy!

Just watched 'The Big Short' on Netflix. Superb. Some nice watches on there too (oyster quartz, sub date amongst others).

Really enjoyed Prey. Grey man not so much but it was entertaining enough

  4. #7154
I recently watched an old film (1947) called Gentleman's Agreement.
I found it enlightening, infuriating and moving in much the same vein as the later To Kill A Mockingbird...coincidence that Gregory Peck played the lead in both, but he played his role well.

Watched Prey last night, pretty good overall, but i thought the CGI of the animals was awful, they all just looked and moved wrong

A very rare thing to find a film we both enjoyed.

The tension is incredibly well done, towards the end I was huffing and puffing I was so tense.

Though I noticed the divers weren't wearing Explorer II's, what's that all about =)

    Great film.
I watched this yesterday - even though you know the outcome, it's a really excellent piece of storytelling that kept me gripped. I can see why it's garnered such positive reviews.

Prey was much better than expected.

(And Grey Man was unwatchable...simply awful.)

I agree with all of this.

It was directed by Ron Howard do hardly a surprise that it was so good.

    Here’s a goodie, well I thought so.

    Whiplash on Netflix.

No bondage involved, sorry to say, but quite a lot of colourful language. If your a jazz fan you might enjoy this, but I thought it was really good.

Just finished 'Villain' on Netflix. Low budget gritty British crime drama. Not perfect but worth a watch.

Suspected it was, from your comments. The original is a minor cracker in the Get Carter mold. From 1971. Ian McShane is Burton's lover. The scenario is broadly taken from one of the Krays. Well worth watching.

Sold. Get Carter is in my top 10 of all time (along with Long Good Friday and Sexy Beast). I just got the BFI blurry release. Glorious.

Brad Pitt in Bullet Train is a loser. It attempts to employ the Marvel-type of mod-madness, but doesn't pull it off. Too bad...

Thanks for the recommendation. Not perfect but I enjoyed it. I activated the Studio Canal free trial and can highly recommend the following:

"Spoorloos" (original 'The Vanishing' with a grown up ending).

    'Gomorrah' haunting Italian crime drama.

'Animal Kingdom' Australian crime drama. Brilliant.

'Alphaville' I'm in love with Anna Karina

'Hell or High Water' sublime crime drama set in Texas. One of the best films I've seen all year. Outstanding performances all round.

Ain't we all. You should check out Bande à Part (the English title was Band of Outsiders), also by Goddard, who was Anna Karina's hubby at the time. Here's a little taster

Hustle - Adam Sandler Netflix drama about basketball. It's a slightly by the numbers drama, with all the highs and lows and montages of training etc. But, it's very good at what it does. Really enjoyed it, some of the stuff was esoteric about the game and went over my head, but you pick it up/don't need to know too much.

Very pleasantly surprised. Well made, good script and kept me watching.

I've heard only good things about this. And I read an article about how it has a lot of Native Americans working on it, so they wanted it to be real, and authentic to the culture. Really nice to hear it's a great film as well.

I didn't like it much - very much a poor relation to the Bourne films, with surprisingly poor effects. Hard to understand how it could have cost $200m to make - that's a lot more than Top Gun: Maverick, which actually had physical planes and ships!

Not comparable to Bourne, Gray Man is a comic book character (not literally) and the movie reflects that. It’s easy to spend a huge amount of money when you have stellar names like Gosling and Evans though, plus billy bob thornton and ana de armas

Gosling came across as a low rent Ryan Reynolds on the film, missing some of his quips and charm

I found it an enjoyable, though instantly forgettable, romp in common with much of the Sky/Netflix fodder nowadays.

    Forgettable, certainly.

Is it (meant to be) a Bourne competitor? Joe Russo certainly referenced Bourne and Bond in all the publicity interviews, the plot is about a super-assassin who's now being pursued by the very people who trained him, it runs across multiple European countries? The difference is that the action sequences in Bourne are palpably real, the car chases have obviously real crashes, the hero gets wounded and makes mistakes. Essentially, Bourne isn't a hero and certainly doesn't want to be one.

The Russo brothers need to stick with superhero films - they're rubbish at real-world action stuff.
