Watched "Jacob's Ladder" again (first time in 15 years). Wonderful and thought provoking film brought down slightly by the government conspiracy angle.
Jamie Foreman has made a slew of low-budget films in the last couple of years, he plays Derek Branning in all of them.

Whole chunks of my life come under the heading "it seemed like a good idea at the time".

I finally got round to Django Unchained which I thought was rollicking good entertainment from start to finish. But Tarantino really needs to heed Hitchcock's advice that the length of a film should be determined by the endurance of the human bladder.
I haven't read any review yet that's picked up on the fact that it owes far more to Addio zio Tom than any of the Django movies.
Crank 2
Lol

Pitch
Skyfall not a big Bond fan and wasnt expecting much but it was brilliant!
Savages
good show with John Travolta and Blake Lively
Not in that order..
I watched "Holy Motors" the other day - one to file under "what the f**k was that all about". David Lynch....on acid.
The Adjustment Beureau. Completely caught me out as I was expecting some FBI thriller but I really enjoyed it
The Words was v good
Watched THE ROAD again the other night, utterly depressing but what a piece of cinema. Well recommended!
Just back from cinema. Watched Side Effects by Steven Sodderbergh. Pretty good stuff. Plus Catherine zeta jones lezzes out a bit a the end :)
An old anime film, Spirited Away. It really is a masterpiece of cinema and storytelling. As magical today as it was 12 years ago.
"The Next Three Days", Russell Crowe, 2010. Edge of your seat stuff.
Also enjoyed "Ted", funnier than I expected.

Looper with all the mixed reviews I avoided it, but caught up with it at the weekend, well worth a watch
Zero Dark Thirty, very uncomfortable watching to be honest, the torture scences are not brutal or gory just in my mind probably very realistic.
End Of Watch: If you liked Training Day then this should float your boat.
The wife and child were away this weekend, so very busy watching films

I thoroughly recommend watching the red violin. It has a great story, plot, soundtrack and cinematography.
I just got round to watching Argo. Good, but not remarkably so. Alan Arkin seems to be developing a Christopher Walken style of speaking.
I also saw The Sweeney, and I'm struggling to think of a worse film. It's appallingly bad.
I saw yesterday "Wadjda", directed by Haifaa Al Mansour.
A pretty good movie, worth seeing in itself (I mean, not considering the context of its making) : the two kids (Wadjda and Abdullah) are especially good. A nice tale in a quite hard environment (for women in particular...).
Got dragged out to see "I give it a year" and really quite enjoyed it to be honest. Very funny and Stephen Merchant is great as usual.
Not a new movie - but I just watched Charlie Wilson's War (2007)
http://www.imdb.com/rg/em_share/titl...itle/tt0472062A drama based on a Texas congressman Charlie Wilson's covert dealings in Afghanistan, where his efforts to assist rebels in their war with the Soviets have some unforeseen and long-reaching effects.
I really enjoyed it

Just watched Flame and Citron (2008)
A drama centered on two fighters in the Holger Danske World War II resistance group.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0920458/
iTunes 99p rental - well worth a viewing.

This one is different. The White Ribbon, a German production, double-Oscar nominated and beautifully filmed in black and white.
Set in a pre-War northern German farming community it deals with a possibly true account of isolation, sadism, abuse and the power of duty over love. Oddly compelling. Subtitled. My dad, who grew up in such a community (minus sadism, abuse and so on, and in pre-WWII Prussia) loved the scenic background, and saw the film on TV, then bought the DVD, which I watched this afternoon.
Attack of the Crab Monsters, 1957
I have fondness for 1950s sci-f1 trash.
Great fun. Giant radioactive crabs that eat your brain!
Watched 'looper' last night. Very enjoyable sci-fi.
Killing them softly - it's so bitter and cold that it's hard to really like it, but it certainly is a most exceptional movie.
Argo was very good. Silver lining playbook was not bad.
Saw "Zodiac" the other night from 2007. Loved it.
It is essentially the hunt for a serial killer active in San Francisco in the '60's and '70's.
Lots of red herrings and a convoluted story with credible acting although the Zodiac was never caught.
Interestingly the killer may have taken his name from a Zodiac watch he owned.
Cheers,
Neil.
Flight with Denzel Washington - fantastic actor and a very good film. Man on Fire is another fine performance and well worth watching.
Zero Dark Thirty - harrowing and scarily realistic, with excellent acting.
“Don’t look back, you’re not heading that way.”
It may have already been mentioned, but I watched Margin Call on Sky anytime last week and really enjoyed it. Well worth a watch for those interested in the banking collapse back in 2008.
Kelly's Heroes, ITV4 right now, classic.
Chronicle.
Another story of super heroes, far from Marvel Comics. And a really good one.
Just seen "Silver Linings Playbook"
What a fantastic film. A Rom Com with two people with mental issues as the main characters
Such an original approach. Throw in De Niro in great form. A chick flick that blokes will love as well.
Perfect stuff.
Saw In the House ,french film with Kristen Scott Thomas, very good actually.
Couple years old but new to me: WINTER'S BONE
Really interesting view of the lesser-seen America, and terrific acting too.
I finally got round to watching Sky fall. The opening car chase / train top fight scene was a tired and clichéd throwback to the Moore era. It would have been good enough 30 years ago, but is lacking today. Javier Bardem could have been a great villain but was ruined for me by dodgy hair and makeup. The rest of the film was OK. Was it made with a small budget?
Oh, and the Adele theme song - quite good, but spoilt by her pronunciation:
"Let the sky foal
When it crumboal"
I also saw "End of Watch" with Jake Gylenhaal. A cop/buddy movie, but different enough to be worth watching. It has chick flick elements that mean the laydeez might also enjoy it. It's very sweary.

Yes Michael Hanake's stuff tends to be uncomfortable watching, sometimes confusing, but very thought-provoking. I did a bit of a Haneke season a while back, watching The White Ribbon, Hidden, Funny Games, and Time Of The Wolf. Not exactly enjoyable, but certainly interesting. His head must be a scary place to be!
