Just my sort of film really, Southern Gothic. Mysterious, surreal and set in the Louisiana bayous.

    Very good cast too.

    Well worth a watch

    Good info, thanks.

I was unaware there were any books.

Oh you must, one of my favourite authors of all time. You can smell New Orleans when he writes.

Just saw Star Trek - Beyond and really enjoyed it. The cast are pretty good in their roles and the special effects are spectacular - perhaps the best I've ever seen.

Saw Mud the other night and thoroughly enjoyed it. A bit like a modern Huckleberry Finn tale.

The two young lads who were the leads (with Matthew McConaughey (sp?)) were excellent.

I saw it at the cinema. I'm something of a film snob and I really enjoyed it. You will benefit from going in fresh so to speak so for anyone thinking about watching it, save any detailed discussion of the film until after you've seen it.

Saw the David Brent movie last week and, as ever, it was a film you couldn't help but watch through your fingers as you watch him dig himself into awful situations everywhere he goes. Very funny and not the huge let down it could have easily been some 12-13 years after "The Office"

Watched a brilliant film the other night on Sky Arts - Lambert and Stamp.

For those not in the know L&S were The Who's managers who decided to film a lot of the '60's goings on.

Two and a half hours long and interspersed with comments from Chris Stamp, Townsend and Daltrey it was rivetting.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

Last Oct I watched "Ant Man" on the top of a cruise liner in the middle of the Caribbean on an open air cinema, - laying on a sunbed, sipping cocktails.. - amazing...

I've just hired it out again to watch at home - 3D version.

Love it! Great film - funny, really holds my attention - great concept :)

Yea that is all kinds of messed up. Can't remember the finer details of the story but not sure I'd want to watch it again to fill in the gaps !

I had a few oldies dug out to watch on a plane journey, did Lucky Number Slevin on the way out (gotta love the Kansas City Shuffle) and even more old school with Stand By Me on the way back.

Just watched a real trash John Travolta revenge flick called "I am wrath"

Really crap popcorn movie akin to "John wick" but for old guys.

Absolute sh**e movie, but I really enjoyed it in a guilty-pleasure kinda way!

    No, not at all Eddie.

Actually that was the first time I have used a meme and only because I had seen it used on another forum previously (bit slow on the uptake tech-wise).

Just reminded me of the brilliant part of Goodfellas in the restaurant.

Actually they are both really great films and all the more intense because they are based on true stories.

Glad you enjoyed them. They certainly stand multiple viewings over time.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

I mentioned it to an American customer who has become a friend and he replied

AHH, first time Scorcese? Check this out ?

OK here is a fact#1 - when I grew up in Staten Island, we had a big mobster who we knew who lived next door. He “worked” in Queens supposedly " selling shoes". He was Henry Hill’s first crew chief in the Mafia! Henry Hill visited next door many times and we had no idea who he was. Mobster was named Alex Nichas

Ok fact #2- Raging Bull - I treated Jake LaMotta’s second wife, who was portrayed in the movie ! She gave me an autographed picture and movie dvd at the time from Jake Lamotta, which I gave to a boxing lover friend of mine who is now a supervisor for the FBI here in NYC.

Goodfellas was filmed partially on Staten Island where I lived.

Goodfellas has two smaller parts played by two NYC ex cops who were actually really hit men for the real mafia when policemen and helped murder a guy around the time the movie was made who lived two doors away from us in Brooklyn when I was very little.

My cousin Paulie the vet lived in Las Vegas for many years as a teen and says Casino is real accurate.

Goodfellas has 2 anachronisms- The cars- its 1978 and there is a 1984 Buick Le Sabre in Joe Pesce’s mother’s driveway. And , there is a skyward scene at the airport where its 1968 and a Boeing 747 is in the sky. Plane did not fly the public until 1970. I actually as a kid was in the first 747 to fly into Bermuda in 1970 and it was a very big deal, people all coming out to the runway, large crowds to see the plane.

I watched "The Adjustment Bureau" recently - Oddly I realised quite quickly I'd seen it before, although I didn't remember where, when or how the film ended, so I was able to enjoy it again.

The wife agreed, on all points, so if you've not seen it, it's an OK way to spend a couple of hours, although I guess it must be pretty forgettable!

Watch the Coen Brother's Hail Caesar! the other night

Very funny - and I loved the references to 50's musicals

I think that George Clooney does commedy quite well - I recall enjoying Brother Where Art Though and Burn Before Reading a while back and he was funny in them - also Coen Brothers films so perhaps their just good at getting this kind of performance out of him

Watched Triple 9 the other night and quite enjoyed it; has a decent cast - Chiwetel Ejiofor, Woody Harrelson, Anthony Mackie, Aaron Paul, Kate Winslet and Casey Affleck etc. Not a bad way to spend a couple of hours.

Watched the new Bourne movie last night, it was OK for action, but the story was flimsy, no depth whatsoever, and the ending didnt really make much sense, why would he go after him?

anyway, not a mark on the other movies.

but you will watch it anyway, because you seen and liked the other ones, and that it was they are depending on here.

Saw War Dogs last night, quite enjoyable. Actually better than I expected with Jonah Hill in it. I do quite like Miles Teller, thought he was very good in Whiplash.

I watched Whiskey Tango Foxtrot last night. Stars : Tina Fey, Margot Robbie, Martin Freeman, Billy Bob Thornton.
I was a bit dubious as I'm not the biggest fan of Tina Fey but I thought if give it a go after reading a brief review. I am glad I did. Its well worth a watch.

I've watched it a couple of times, that Emily Blunt is a very under rated bit of wrist fodder!
