Not a Movie in the true sense of the word but...

I watched 'Inside Job' narrated by Matt Damon

Holy Shit.....more baddies in it than many blockbusters...

a must watch and quite incredible the links to those who hold office and the banks to a scale previously unheard of..eye opening and eye watering..

and in reality I doubt much has changed since...

    https://www.netflix.com/gb/title/70139555

Yeah I watched it last night. Quite eye opening but not surprising really. Corruption at the highest level.

Watched The Light Between Oceans last night, talk about a slow burner though once the dilemma within the film is in place it really engages. Yes it's overly sentimental however it pulls it off with such grace and beauty you won't care. Don't read any reviews beforehand as it's best not to know how it unfolds, not because there are any plot twists (there aren't any) but because it's better for going in to it without a previous steer.

Absolutely not the genre of film I'd give any time to usually though I'm glad I watched it.

Anyone watched any good movies recently?

    The Platform currently on Netflix.

A very well executed ‘prison’ film that has an interesting application to society in general.

Classed as a horror, but I’d call it more thriller.

If you enjoyed Get Out, Cube or Circle then am sure you will enjoy this.

    Saw Dune today

I have enjoyed the first three books countless times, so it was with a little bit of trepidation that I went to see the film.

Loved it, blown away by the cinematography, the CGI (to my eyes) was seamless and the majority of the acting was good. It was relatively true to the original and I would recommend anyone who likes their sci - fi / space operas to give it a go.

    ? What was the film?
Or are you referring to ‘the platform’ mentioned above ?

Wes Anderson’s ‘French Dispatch’, my first outing to the cinema for some long time.

Ah, this has happened before. On Tapatalk (mobile) it doesn’t show the category hence me asking. On the full website you get to see it.

I don't think it displays in Tapatalk - This has come up before.

I watched The Forgotten Battle on Netflix a couple of days ago.

A film about the liberation of the Scheldt in Holland (I think it's a Dutch film or a Dutch/Anglo production).

Some of it didn't make a lot of sense (For example, there didn't seem much point in the allied soldier hero being a glider pilot bound for Arnhem really as he ended up with the Canadian troops who actually fought in the Scheldt), but it was a decent enough war film and about a little-known part of the war.

Worth watching, I thought, if not an all-time classic.

Straight Outta Compton; really liked this, great success story of boys from the hood and reminded me of so many tunes from my youth. Brilliant- it was on Amazon Prime.

    Up In The Air.

George Clooney's commitment phobic Ryan Bingham is a "corporate downsizing executive" who spends his life flying this way and that over America firing employees at every city he lands in. He's given a new recruite to show the ropes to and crosses paths with a female fellow frequent flyer. Is he really as content on his own as he thinks he is?

Just finished watching it for the third time. Funny, tragic, beautifully paced and impeccably judged

I loved the sound track growing up, first time I saw the film was on a flight somewhere. As soon as the ‘you are now about to witness’ started up, the hairs on the back of my neck stood up, was amazing.

I watch SOC usually a couple of times a year, still doesn’t get old & love the workout it gives my sub.

    I also liked this film.

"Fat Matt's Rib Shack, bring a bib"

I ate in Fat Matt's without linking it to the film, but the quote was on the wall beside my table and it took me right back.

It was a good recommendation, thanks George.

SOC is probably my favourite album of all time, I just bought it on the 1988 release on vinyl, I had it on cassette at the time and played it till it wore out.
    Cheers..

We watched 'Finch' starring Tom Hanks on Apple TV.

Another post apocalyptic tale, featuring a dog and a robot with AI as supporting cast.

Humorous and sad, but ultimately uplifting - definitely worth a watch.

I watched "In the Heights" last night. Created by Lin Manuel Miranda (Hamilton).
It's a musical , so not for everyone, but if you liked La La Land this one may be up your street.

    I really enjoyed it.

I watched The Queen's Gambit for the second time.
I rarely do this, but I'm very glad I did.
I enjoyed it even more the second time around.

no time to die - 6/10 dont understand the hype around this, was mediocre at best, not helped by the fact everytime i saw rami malek i thought 'mr robot' -which made him about as much a villain as andy pandy

shang chi and the legend of the ten rings - 8/10 really enjoyed this one and well worth a watch if you liked the marvel films

With you on both of these ratings.

Watched Venom 2 which was mediocre at best. To me it seemed rushed, CGI was poor when compared to the 1st film, and just over 1hr25mins, again unusual for a marvel film. I give it a rating of meh

Spot on, on both counts, in my view!

I also recently watched Black Widow and would give that a solid 7/10.

Watched the directors cut of Rocky 4 at the weekend. If you are a fan of the franchise then it is a must watch! Stallone took out 40 mins and added 40 mins of unseen footage. Really changes the whole premise of the film and for the better. To be fair I loved the original but this was a much more grown up movie and less 80’s.

    GAME NIGHT

Highly entertaining action/caper - pretty silly plot but with some very funny moments, similar feel to True Lies.

    Great cast including Rachel McAdams.

14 Peaks on Netflix - really good docu-story of a Nepalese climber called Nirmal Purja who beat the world record for climbing all 14 peaks above 8000m's. The record was 16 years previously due to weather windows, planning, visas etc etc. He did it in less than a year (that's not a spoiler, the actual time isn't revealed til the end of the film)

    MAN DOWN

Apparently dissed by the critics but I thought it was quite clever. Military drama, Shia LaBeouf stars.

    On Amazon Prime.

Was fortunate to see it live and i couldn’t agree more, brilliantly made and captures a lot of the feelings of the live performance and concept.

Just watched this film - amazing achievement/s whilst also highlighting the critical and all too often unacknowledged role played by the Sherpas.

    “The Last Duel”

    Now on Disney+

A fabulous depiction of a true event and the cast of…Jodie Comer ,Ben Afleck, Matt Damon and Adam Driver worked very well with each doing a great job….Driver was excellent..

Also re-watched …Amadeus cannot believe i saw it on release 35 years ago and still utterly brilliant…..

    Disney+ marathon...
Black Widow was good fun, 7/10 (and setting up her sister Yelena as a "Hawkeye" antagonist I think).

Free Guy was excellent, kids loved it and we loved it, already been back for a re-watch, 9/10.

Shang Chi was decent but a bit drawn out, I found myself hoping for a quick ending, maybe 6/10.

Jungle Cruise was one of the worst films I've ever been subjected to. Miscast and really poorly written. Generous 2/10.

Did you see it live? I did and I rate it as the best gig I ever saw, although I'm not sure it really fits into the category of a simple gig.

I've got the DVD, but am yet to watch it.

I've read mixed reviews, so it'll be interesting to see how it compares.

Although, of course, it's a recording of the Broadway production, so I don't know how closely it matches the toured show - Anyone seen them both?
