I don't know what prompted me, but i bought a box set of Rocky 1-6 and rewatched them all. Still amazed Rocky was conceived and written by Stallone when he was starting out. I think 1-3 are still decent films. 4 just a bit strange, the whole Russia/Drago thing. But I know Stallone released a newer edit with about 40 mins completely changed that is supposed to be better.
5 just simply isn't great and it would have been expected for them to die there and then. However 6 (aka Rocky Balboa) is quite a return to form to be honest. A very human, thoughtful film, and a perfect way for them to bow out (the Rocky brand at least).
I've enjoyed the Creed films, and looking forward to #3.
Is it suitable for kids? The wife and I fancy seeing it and being rated a 12a I'm tempted to take the kids and educate them on the King.
These days however a 12 rating can mean anything!! The last Fast and Furious was littered with pretty bad swearing including at least one F-bomb. I'm a bit cautious.
I think ok with kids. I don't recall anything that was an issue. they def need educating on the king. If you are a fan, this is a real emotional rolleroaster. I had goose bumps on a few occasions and the ending, is so sad. a brilliant film

Elvis is a "must see" for several reasons:
- Awareness of pop culture
- Impact and legacy..the birth of today's pop/rock movement
- The film was 'approved' by Priscilla and Lisa Marie
- A truly wild ride...goosebumps!

We had watched the original Top Gun the night before, just so many memories, hard to believe that Maverick (Tom Cruise) was only 24 when he made the film.
'Persian Lessons' on iPlayer. Up there with the best ww2 dramas.
Caught a piece of this ages ago. Looks really interesting. I will check out the whole thing.
Watched 'House of Gucci' the other night, cant remember what platform it was on, really surprised to enjoy it as much as I did, Im not sure what I was expecting, but it was very good watching. ( There was a big continuity error with some music from 5 years in the future in a party scene but forgivable )

40C here, so a good moment to re-instate an old tradition: off to the airco'ed movie theatre! We did that when the boys were wee lads. Three hours travel and entertainment with airco. Great way to beat the heat.
We went to see Elvis. What a fantastic movie! One small detail from a Dutch guy: Colonel Parker (Hanks) is mad, very mad at a certain point. He throws something to the wall and swears in Dutch. The pronunciation of that word is very good. ;-)
The music is fantastic and it's really good to hear Elvis songs being performed by other artists. It fits right in.

As we in Hawarden made the National news last night for the hottest place in Wales, it easily a no brainer to sit in a chilled AC cinema this afternoon and enjoy Top Gun whilst the temps peaked again.
I must agree with the comments above , the pace of the film (=despite being 2 hrs 10 mins) is excellent. The subplots,flash backs and action scenes all create a true blockbuster.
I went to my local cinema to see Thor a couple of weeks ago, movie was terrible but the experience was even. Cinema was packed and there was no aircon could barely breath and was actually sweating buckets when I got out. Really horrible experience! Apparently their AC unit wasn’t working but felt like a cost saving exercise to me, the place has been dying for ages.

Recently discovered Showcase Lux cinemas. Huge powered reclining chairs, loads of space between the seats. Lovely experience bs cinemas of old.
Has anyone seen Maverick in one of the 4DX cinemas? Really wondering what that’s going to be like. I’d imagine exhausting and like being on a Disney cinematic experience for 2 hours!
I went to a 4DX film once by accident a few years back, had to walk out. One of the staff came up to me in the lobby and asked if I was ok and wanted to sit down as I was leaving. Never again!

Valley of the dead on Netflix
Very funny Spanish zombie flick. I really enjoyed it.
Not sure how this one passed me by since 2009, but we watched 'Looking for Eric' last night on Netflix.
Overall the film was only just about OK, but I did find it really quite funny in a very corny/cheesy way so it made for a decent enough 'mid-week evening' film.
Probably not up to full on 'Saturday night with popcorn' watching though.
Watched the The Gray Man yesterday on Netflix - A Ryan Gosling / Chris Evans vehicle. Totally OTT but good for some "brain out" fun.
Just watched this, thought it was well worth it.
The Gray Man was indeed “brain out” but not quite as grey matter negative as “Moon Fall”.
A picture whose intellectual demands made The Gray Man seem like The Seventh Seal.
Also a movie whose two word title manages to both encompass the entirety of the plot, whilst actually bettering it in complexity and emotional depth.
However, Moon Fall has its moments. Writer, director and renowned philosopher Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, Godzilla, White House Down) is not afraid to address the deepest of human questions. Including the Big One:
“How many Kevins do you think there are inside the moon?”
Everything everywhere all at once.
Watched "The Duke" a couple of nights ago, very entertaining and quirkily different from the normal hollywood garbage.
Your talent is wasted here.
And I always thought that the Seventh Seal was one of the most watchable Bergman (the most watchable Bergman is Ingrid, but that's another topic).

In hindsight I definitely should have taken more notice of the 'brain out' and 'OTT' comments already made above.
The Prague 'handcuffed to the bench' scene made the car chase in Ronin and every James Bond/Bourne film ever made look completely believable.

Yes, that handy RPG might have usefully been deployed in a different manner, but the film would have been somewhat shorter.
With logical thinking like that and based on the calibre of the 'Operatives' in The Grey Man, you would have a VERY successful career as a rogue CIA Henchman - just not in Hollywood!

Juist watched the Black Phone in the cinema in Thailand. Decent horror flick, not jump out of seat scary but suitably creepy and an interesting story

The tension is incredibly well done, towards the end I was huffing and puffing I was so tense.
Though I noticed the divers weren't wearing Explorer II's, what's that all about =)

Enjoyed the Grey Man after making some great koftas & flat breads for an early meal. Wife less impressed with her eyes on the iPad mainly.

Event Horizon is on Netflix now. Not perfect but very very creepy and certainly worth a watch.
We watched this on Friday evening, a bit dated now but was still pretty good.
