Watched The Ministry of ungentlemanly warfare last night.
Historically accurate it is not but as a stylised WW2 yarn with plenty of action it does its job 8/10 for me.

Watched "After Life" with Liam Neeson last night, it held my interest throughout. You'll find it on Amazon Prime.

Whole chunks of my life come under the heading "it seemed like a good idea at the time".
Briefly back to 1991 for me yesterday to watch Point Break (surfing movie courtesy of Keanu Reeves, Patrick Swayze and director, Kathryn Bigelow) - I've always enjoyed this film over several viewings so was pleased to see it available on iPlayer.
Looks good, Liam Neeson films are usually easy watching.
Did you read the trivia for this one.
Christina Ricci said in a 2022 interview that she had no problem being totally nude so much during filming, but what made her uncomfortable was other people being uncomfortable with her being naked. That made her feel really weird. So what she did, which she admitted actors probably wouldn't be allowed to do these days, is just stay naked and not wear a robe between scenes. She'd also go talk to crew members naked because she wanted everybody around her to stop reacting to it, because then she could forget that she was naked. Doing that made it one of the only times she's really felt comfortable being naked on camera.
Sounds like a hard day on set!
I've just come out of the cinema after watching Alien Romulus.
To be honest it wasn't amazing, but a good fun sci-fi horror and importantly a return to form after the pretty disappointing Promethius stuff. We're back to having actual Aliens in our Aliens movies.
One or two jump scares, some good corridor chases and a satisfying finale.
Timeline wise it sits after the original Alien - set about a decade or so after (the Nostrimo is briefly mentioned) and way before Aliens, so you know there is nothing universe altering taking place, but it's a good addition to the franchise. I enjoyed the fourth installment (resurrection) and this is quite close to it in style and story.
Worth a watch.

Just finished watching "Stay" (2005) - thought provoking with some famous actors. Twisted my brain a bit!
Naomi Watts looking super as usual. Main characters played by Ewan McGregor and Ryan Gosling.
Gets a thumbs up from me.
“ Ford... you're turning into a penguin. Stop it.” HHGTTG
Just watched Alien romulus at the pictures with my grown up daughter, wow what a film just as good as alien and aliens which this new one is based in between, fantastic film
Watched Happy Gilmore the other night. If you can accept Adam Sandler films for what they are they really are superb.
Very late to the game, but I watched Green Door recently and greatly enjoyed it.

Breitling Cosmonaute 809 - What's not to like?
Enjoyed two Nick cage films: longlegs and dream scenario. Both rather unusual. First one is silence of the lambs meets the exorcist; second is just v strange tale of a middle aged academic who inexplicably becomes the subject of everyone's dreams.
The 15:17 to Paris is the true story of three Americans who foiled a terror attack on a train heading to Paris in 2015. It's directed by Clint Eastwood and, although I didn't realise it initially, the three Americans are played by themselves (and other people caught up in the events also play themselves). It cuts between the terror attack and the three's backstories. Although reviews were mixed, I enjoyed it.
Edit - it's available on Prime
Unsure if it was already mentioned..
Iron Fury (on Amazon Prime).
A slightly bonkers, highly enjoyable war romp about a lone Russian T34 tank crew versus a Panzer training camp.
In dodgy dubbed Russian and captioned German. Some great slow-mo bullet/shell effects and great scenery. Great stuff.
Watched Blade Runner 2049 on iPlayer the other day and thought it was excellent.
I got a few hits for it in this thread from 2017, so it's been discussed before, but surely good enough to highlight again, especially free on the Beeb :-)
Agreed Aliens Romulus was one of the better ones. It starts stronger than it ends, but the photography, retro Alien style art direction, and cast are good.
Blink Twice is also worth watching if you can find it, it takes a little while to get going but not in a bad way as the opening is an enjoyable journey, and it's a stylishly and sharply edited film. Probably not for everyone as it's pretty gory with some disturbing themes, but there's a dark humour at work in places. Impressive stuff from Zoe Kravitz, daughter of Lenny, stepping out from his shadow in style.
Monkey Man is also good, the Indian locations feel almost like Blade Runner at times, and the fluid camera is great. Dev Patel proves himself as a talented director, with hints of the poetic qualities of Wong Kar-wai. Be prepared for a blood soaked descent into John Wick territory, but they hit harder due to the more convincing setup.
So three films that end in a very dark place and a fair amount of stabbing. But well made nonetheless.
Yep I enjoyed Monkey Man, something of a wee bit different take on the John Wick format.
I've just thoroughly enjoyed the mainly Irish-language Kneecap at our local independent cinema. It's full of anarchic energy and very funny but won't be for everybody.
Don't just do something, sit there. - TNH
Just watched and really liked wicked little letters.
Watched District 9 again last night for the first time in a few years.
It's actually a very well made film.
There's a 6-part series coming to Amazon - Blade Runner 2099, with Tom Burke (the bloke from Strike) and Michelle Yeoh.
I watched Leon last night for a bit of a 'blast from the past' film. I hadn't realised it was Gary Oldman as the bad-cop or that Natalie Portman was the little girl. Weird as I have just finished re-watching Slow Horses in readiness for the new season.
Anyway, for most of the film I was wondering when the infamous car chase was going to happen and then the film ended.
At that point I realised that the car chase I was thinking about was from Ronin....
Oops.
Not so much a 'movie', more of a documentary. I've just watched Netflix's Apollo 13: Survival.

Highly recommended for space fans.
