Have to agree with Senwar and Argee1977, a fantastic earthy film.

A second choice would be The Guard, starring Brendon .

I now want to see the raid as I am aware of an ongoing debate of plot pleaugerism between the raid and dredd 3d. I have seen dredd which i thought was a very good, violent depiction of a classic british comic. Much better than sly stallones depiction. The raid and dredd have near identical plotlines and I want to compare.

I read the raid is a gripping piece of action.

Having a 'me' day today and just had the cinema all to myself for 'The Sweeney'.

Didnt really follow the plot tbh and it's not going to win any awards, but who cares.

Best to forget comparisons with the series from the 70s and just enjoy it for what it is - a car chasing, slag bashing, non PC romp.

Has anyone seen Anna Karenina yet? I'm keen to see it if it is a very good production, and keen not to see it if it isn't.

    Best wishes,

Watched it on the plane last week. It's a good 'switch your brain off' action film. The usual where the common baddies are cut down by 2 or 3 martial art kick/punches but the main fight lasts about 15 mins and every punch is a killer but back they both come as if never touched!

'Headhunters' is well worth a look. It's on iTunes. Fun with some friends and a few bottles. If you like the look of the trailer then I can definitely say the film lives up to it.

Dredd is quite perfect in its own gratuitous way, if you like that sort of thing.

Edit - oh and Drive, sure someone must have mentioned it, but worth catching if you missed it in cinemas.

Just been to see Looper. Best film in a long time IMHO.

  15. #165
Hated looper - so many plot holes.

Taken 2 was pretty great though. If you liked the first one this is just as good.

    I watched Ted. Nice one.

Looper was great, thoroughly enjoyable popcorn fun!

But just don't think about it too hard after the film has ended - its only then that I started to realise all the plot holes! The pace is so frantic that you don't have time to think about them during the actual film...

Ted was brilliant. Infact, it was the funniest film I've seen this year.

If only getting promoted at work was like that

I just got around to watching "Miracle at St. Anna" the other day. Quite unusual for a war film - tried to show a different perspective. Bit preachy (as you would expect from Spike Lee) but went surprisingly quick for a 2.5hr+ film - so that has to be a good sign.

    Cabin in the woods
    Panic Room
    Safe House
    Daybreakers

All good films and i get bored quick.

I was really looking forward to Cabin in the Woods, turned out to be really quite lame, that's not something you can say about Wrong Turn 5, it's still rubbish but the gore is off the charts.

I thought cabin in the woods was a really interesting and fresh take on the horror genre. Far from perfect, but I really enjoyed it... I agree that the gore wasn't off the scale (I'm not a gore-hound) but it had its fair share!

Maybe I just had hoped for something more, as I thought the trailer was interesting, but the movie did not live up to it.

Yes, just another ball-less teen-friendly horror flick, sadly.

Wait till Eli Roth gets The Green Inferno in the cinemas.

I really like Will Ferrell in his 'dafter' comedies (Step Brothers, Anchorman, Zoolander) but haven't seen Semi Pro.
    I'll check it out.

Out of all the people I know, Cabin has split opinion more than any other. Some people really like the way it's about horror films as well as being one...and others just didn't like it at all. I have yet to see it, but want to as I am intrigued.

Another positive opinion of Cabin In The Woods - I thought it was an interesting take on the slasher flick, a bit like Scream.

    You've been trumped

Watched it last night on BBC2, a short film on how D. Trump bought up an estate in west Scotland and turned it into a golf course, and the manor in which he operated to get what he wanted, at the cost of those around him.
The estate was made up of pristine sand dunes which were of special scientific interest, yet the local and Scotish government allowed Trump to turn the whole area into a moonscape.
There were cameo appearances of the film local hero which this film had an uncanny resemblance to.
    Good tv/ film

Wife and I watched Snow White & The Huntsman. Quite impressed. Good action and interesting re-telling of an old fairy story, quite 'Grimm'. Dwarves were excellent.

Taken is brilliant, taken 2 was good but preferred the first one. Definitely room for a third one after that ending..

    Another fan of "The Raid"

We watched an early Liam Neeson film this weekend "Crossing The Line" aka "The Big Man". Billy Connolly, Ian Bannen, Joanna Whaley-Kilmer, Pat Roach and an early role for Hugh Grant in a story of bare knuckle fighting in Northern Ireland and Scotland. A bit moody but good, with a score by Ennio Morricone and a short appearance by Julie Graham showing a bit more than usual.

Watched the 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' the other night. Seemed very similar in theme to some of Mankell's stories and I assume is typical of Scandinavian crime writing at the moment. Cinematography was good (but reminiscent of BBCs 'Wallander') and it was competently acted. But it had no third act. Perhaps the scriptwriter should read Goldman or re-watch 'North-by-North West' to see how to deal with explication in the third act in a brief but entertaining manner. It was OK but vaguely disappointing.
