    Tacky but really enjoyed it.

    Really?!

Worst ever film I’ve seen in 20 years…..and I say that as an ex Studio exec who watched about 450 films a year for many, many years. Tragically awful on every level and a great example of the baffling studio sequel churn these days.

Thanks; definitely one to watch. I've only ever seen it on broadcast TV a loooong time ago, so I suspect I've never seen the full 'real purty mouth' scene. Do you know if it's "as intended" in the iPlayer version?

I know, everything should have ticked every box about what is wrong with a film, but for some reason I really enjoyed it. Almost as though it was so bad it made it good in a way!

    The Fall Guy however, terrible!

The Old Oak - very dark and powerful about Syrian refugees in the North East.

Slap Shot. My son started playing ice hockey and I played a little many moons ago. I felt it should be part of his education. One of my favourites and I think one of the best sports films.

    Memoirs of a Snail.
I really enjoyed this Australian animation of a couple of kids growing up .
Sad, funny, uplifting , depressing and positive in equal measures. You’ll soon forget the animation and will connect with the characters.
It’s one of the best I’ve seen for a long while.

Depending on how old your son is, Goon is surprisingly fun ice hockey film

That's the one. I read some of the background and they are played by two brother and a third very similar looking actor. All three were professional hockey players.

He's asked to watch Good as well which I haven't seen.

The Hanson Bros. were based on the three Carlson Bros.. Two of the three Carlsons appeared in the movie as one brother, Jack, was unavailable (he was playing ice hockey!) & Dave Hanson was portrayed by another hockey player called (errr) Dave Hanson.

    Snerting

    (English title: Touch)

An idealistic overseas student in 60's London, a Japanese restaurant, and a search for resolution in this Icelandic romantic drama. You'll probably know if that's your thing already. A weepy, and occasionally saccharine, but held aloft by restrained performances.

Bonus points for disciplined omission of moody knitwear and chic murders.

But the clues are there, as the president is well into his third term when only two are allowed, so he doesn’t seem all that interested in democracy. Sounds familiar?

I liked this too. Garland knows exactly what he is doing. Slightly surprised he gets the funding in an era of superheroes, animation and sequels but I am thankful he gets to give his take on the American road trip and war movie. Set pieces are truly tense, avoiding the genre trap of focussing on the hardware, noise and action, and keeping it personal. The Killing Fields meets Full Metal Jacket. And yes, a nod to Rear Window with the photographer echoing the audience's (and society's) voyeurism. Jesse Plemons is terrifying. And Kirsten Dunst is granite, in what should be an awards-troubling performance. Garland deserves recognition not just for the writing and direction (both excellent) but for just getting this made.

Conclave with Ralph Fiennes. Very slow but beautifully shot and very well acted.
