Saw a Korean film at the cinema called Parasite last week. If you don’t mind subtitles, I recommend it highly!
Another film I caught for the first time in about a decade, 48 Hours, with Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy. Forgotten how good that was!
Eye for an Eye.
On netflix, spanish film. Cool revenge flick but you realise at the end that someone else had a better revenge.
Now this is the first film that has a 2 second shot of something that will make you gag and retch. Never seen before. Towards the end and of no consequence to the film. But they showed it. Can never be unseen.
And its not the head in toilet scene.
Great acting.

The Gentlemen. Tip-top entertainment. Great cast and Guy Ritchie's gift for dialogue is a winning combination.
I thought 12 strong was watchable.

I thoroughly enjoyed Uncut Gems. It isn’t particularly ‘enjoyable’ to watch, but I found it absolutely compulsive viewing. It’s stressful, intense and rather exhausting - but it’s also one of the most intensely watchable films of the last few years.
Watched this last night. The plot is poor and makes no sense in places but the visual are excellent. I thought that the moon buggy chase scene / fight were amazing. I'm going to watch it again tonight just for the special effects.

It's been a while, but it's a good movie.
About Eastwood's 'frail' posture (as FFF wrote): I think it's good. He looks old but healthy, his mental state is perfect as well. What's more, he does look his age. Not like some desperately trying to look (and act) younger. I admire that in him. And he's now playing the roles that fit him: a grandfather-like person. Sometimes 'tough', (Gran Torino) and sometimes making the best of his life (Mule).

I saw Parasite yesterday on the strength of its virtual Oscars sweep Sunday night. I certainly had my doubts going in, but I was very pleasantly surprised to find it an excellent and quite engaging film. Other than the subtitles (which I personally don't mind), the movie was very "Western." It could have been set in New York, London, Paris, etc. with nary a change.
Excellent and recommended.
I really enjoyed Last Breath on Netflix last night.
It is reconstructed documentary using actual footage of North Sea saturation divers and a tragic accident.
It is around 90mins but I was riveted

The King
It's wonderfully atmospheric and the acting is so good it feels like you're watching what really occurred, rather than a film.
Watched Jojo Rabbit last night. Completely bonkers but loved every minute of it. Joyful experience!

A movie I'd like to see: An Officer and a Spy aka J'accuse...see also this link.
Excellent movie. YOu may also like Dredd https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1343727/?ref_=tt_sims_tt
Looking forward for this movie for kids:
"Sonic the Hedgehog" is racing to a dominant $55 million opening at 3,150 North American locations during the four-day President's Day weekend in a launch that's above forecasts, early estimates showed Friday. Read more...

Watched uncut gems last night.
Not sure if I liked it or not. Very fast all the way through but kept me hooked
RIAC
The art of driving in the rain
Superb
Knives out
Really enjoyed it. A bit of a reverse whodunit.
Parasite
An utter masterpiece. Hands down the best film I've seen in the past 6 months
Another thumbs up for JoJo Rabbit. Just saw it on the plane and it had me in tears.
Fractured on Netflix cracking ending :)
A bit OT...a link to Parasite film posters from around the world.
Katherine Johnson died today at 101.
She was undoubtedly worthy of a RIP thread, but most people would have no idea of who she was.
So instead I strongly recommend you watch Theodore Melfi's "Hidden Figures"
You can read a proper obituary here.
But go and watch the movie. Those ladies deserve it.
Watched it with the kids yesterday, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Make sure you stay for the ‘secret’ scene halfway through the end credits.
Also watched ‘Fisherman’s friends’ about the Cornish sea shanty group, a really nice film. ( Prime I think it was on)
Cheers..

Look out for a film called Dark Waters, absolutely amazing storyline and acting, you’ll never use a non stick frying pan again...

I've just returned from The Gentlemen. Wow! That was good. Right on the top-shelf next to Snatch and Lock Stock.

Another thumbs-up for Parasite here. Totally engaging, well shot and acted. Loved the house, too.
Really enjoyed the new version of Aladdin.
I saw Margot Robbie in Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey on Tuesday. It had been scoring some good ratings from critics and audiences, but it was a bit too "childish" (?) for me (I'm 72!). I found it mildly entertaining, but was generally disappointed.
Cold War [Zimna Wojna] (2018) A beautifully made Polish film. Touching and quite sad. Needs a bit of patience but well worth it.
Mystery Road. An Australian film, Really well done and has what I think could be the best final shoot out, bar none.
I know this thread is for films, but there's also an Australian TV Series called Mystery Road, which is also excellent.
Watched this the other night as my wifes choice.
It was actually quite good.
True story about a female war reporter in heavily war-torn conflict zones. Made a nice change.
My wife wanted to see *Contagion*, and we have it on DVD. Not a recent film, but good. Her reaction. She really dislikes bats.
Best wishes,
Bob
We watched "The Bone Collector" again last night with Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie and then "The Con Is On" with Uma Thurman and Tim Roth, most amusing.
Eddie
Whole chunks of my life come under the heading "it seemed like a good idea at the time".
Watched Zombieland II Double Tap last night, it’s £2.99 on iTunes this weekend. Really enjoyed it, strangely appropriate for our apocalyptic times, but highly entertaining throughout (assuming you like that kind of thing). Needed something funny to distract from the news and this ticked the box. I suspect we’ll rewatch the original.
The Two Pope's is on Netflix. Very good.
Watched the Martian in glorious 4k. Superb film. Felt I was stranded on Mars myself! 8.5/10.

"The Towering Inferno" last night. Surprisingly good after so many decades, some cheesy characters and dialogue but it is a 70"s disaster movie after all.
The effects were actually pretty good generally for 1974, and some of the burning and falling firefighters and civilians was slightly disturbing post World Trade Centre. Definitely recommend a revisit.
