Thread: Anyone watched any good movies recently?

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Kids wanted to stay up until midnight so we ended up watching this, which I enjoyed more than I thought I would. I have probably seen it close to a dozen times, but not in many years. I once attended a fancy dress party costumed as Mr Wonka, but that was another life time ago.
What platform did you find Beverly Hills cop

    Thanks

Half way through "Paint your wagon".
It's a long film, haven't seen it for years but really enjoying it again.

“Death to 2020” on Netflix, a very funny satirical film about all that happened in 2020, Samual L Jackson commentates. Very funny observations, COVID, Trump, Johnson etc.
    Cheers..

Good recommendation. We saw it last night. You can see Charlie Brooker's writing in it so if you're a fan of his Screen Wipe or any of his work then you'll like this.

Mr Sherlock Holmes (2015). Watched this on terrestrial TV - rather poignant, dealing with loss of memory. Ian McKellen is excellent.

Partly a favourite, due to Apis Mellifera (honey bees) being centre to the plot...

Free on YouTube and worth every penny.

Roger Moore, David Niven, Telly Savalas, but the star of the show had to be Stephanie Powers.

A sort of 'Allo "Allo with live firing.

    Moore and Niven together?

    Excellent.

    Thanks Temp - appreciate it.

Yes I know 1984 is a long time ago, but I always thought it wouldn’t be for me so avoided it.

Anyway, watched it on New Year’s Eve and I have to say it was the most I’d laughed in the whole of 2020. Think Alien with a Muppet cast and you won’t go far wrong.

Watched 'Without a Clue' yesterday. Forgotten how funny it was.

    Jo-Jo Rabbit is excellent.

Couldn't really get on with 'Midnight Sky', thought it was very ponderous.

Great find, watched it last night. I real enjoy Moore's non-Bond films. Never high art, but always great fun.

Mystery Road (2013). The film not the series (which is also very good)

Excellent Australian film with what is probably one of the best final shootouts around.

Even after all these years, 'Mad Max 2 - The Road Warrior' is my favourite action film. It's so tight and blasts along. Love it!

Doctor Sleep was very good, just watched it.

‘Dead Man’s Shoes’ is on Film 4 at 11.05pm this evening - one of my favourite films, a real gem from Shane Meadows & Paddy Considine.

    Outside The Wire on Netflix.

Near future US Military Sci Fi. Starts well but flags a bit. Makes a couple of half hearted attempts at morality and philosophy, but doesn't really say anything profound. Probably a bit long. Overall though, OK to good.

Not helped by having seen, just yesterday, the main supporting character as the new trainee Policeman in Death In Paradise.

Watched it last night based on this forum's recommendation and wasn't impressed. I found it superficial, predictable and lacking any characters with depth but each to their own!

    I’m not changing my mind!

Anyone else find it difficult to even select anything to watch in the first place? The sheer choice available often seems to paralyse me.

    Snow White and the Huntsman

Going back a bit to 2012 but surprised how much I liked this; not usually a fan of fantasy stuff but the twist of it being dark thriller was pretty cool. Great cast too, although must be said I have a soft spot for Kristen Stewart - I'll say again she'll be more admired as she gets older, a fine actress tainted by the Twilight nonsense.

No idea if it's available anywhere, I taped it off terrestrial over Xmas (whatever the current word for taped is!).

Just watched Hearts in Atlantis. Highly recommended.
Didn't do too well in the box office, but then, as one reviewer put it, neither did The Shawshank Redemption.

Tried to watch 15 Mins of war, but wasn’t in a subtitle mood. Found very little else to watch, lots of 5 mins in & delete type of day.

Ended up with top gun, amp set to 75db at my seating position, sub set to impact & all the usual sound optimisation for watching tv at sensible levels turned off. Wow is all I can say, the clarity & thumps when required was amazing.

Even for its age, it has a cracking sound to accompany the film.

It had a good cast and thought the film was good but didnt think it was more than that.

Stumbled upon a film called 'the wedding guest' with Dev Patel - worth a watch.

One that is NOT to watch is remake of Blythe Spirit My Wife made Me watch it with Her i think Judi Dench should be renamed Judi Stench after this pile of poo I watched the French film,'Mesrine',utterly brilliant and Vincent Cassel deserves to be a huge star rather than some of the tripe who frequent a lot of the movies today.
