Anyone watched any good movies recently?

I'd rather watch 'a movie made for fans' than 'a movie made for critics', I am a fan not a critic.

I saw London Has Fallen yesterday... and loved every minute of it.

I thought it was better than the first film (Olympus Has Fallen), with a better story line and a semi-believable plot. The role of the hero was made for Gerrard Butler, though I don't know what Lance Armstrong (Aaron Eckhart) was doing as the POTUS

Some of the effects were a bit ropey, but then you can't actually go round blowing historic London monuments up for a film, can you.

I also suspect the SAS would NEVER get themselves into a fire-fight in a narrow street, but let's gloss over that.

I'd give it a 8/10 and will definitely watch it when it pops up on Prime, or Netflix


Like someone above said, the trailer for Eye In The Sky (Helen Mirren / the late Alan Rickman) looked right up my alley too !

Rewatching Zodiac last night, the story (unsurprisingly) of the Zodiac killer, based in San Francisco and the surrounding area from the late 60's onwards.

It's such a great movie, probably one of David Finchers best. Utterly engrossing the whole way through, especially knowing that it's a true story and was never actually solved. Well worth a watch if you can pick up a copy - sadly it's not on Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc!

Aw man, I was going to suggest the same thing.

Saw it tonight and loved it. I know it's not 100% true and probably a bit sugary, but best film I've seen in a while - laughed a lot and wiped away the odd tear ( dusty cinema seats, obviously).

Took our 8 and 6 year old to watch it. Probably a little bit too grown up for them, but they were on the edge of their seats all the way through it.

My little girl squealed in delight every time he landed a jump.

The GF and I did wince a little at the Bo Derek love making bit though; thankfully went over the kids head!

And yes, I am over 40.

We watched Hail, Caesar! and Daddy's Home last night.
It's great to see the Coen brothers back to their best but I had very low expectations of Daddy's Home, but it is actually very funny!

Odeon ran a 50% off deal yesterday so I saw the only thing I fancied which was Eddie the Eagle. Didn't have high expectations but I really enjoyed it. Great 80's soundtrack and good to see a lot of British acting talent on screen, oh and Wolverine.

a solid 8/10.

From what I've read (I haven't seen it) the remake is poor compared to the original (as is to be pretty much expected with all Hollywood remakes). I'd recommend you take the time to check that one out.

We watched Narc from 2002 starring Jason Patrick again last night. I think that it was a really underrated film when it was out, definitely worth a watch I'd say

Saw 'Room' and thought it was pretty good. It's messed up that what happens in the film actually happens in real life.

We saw this last night and thought it absolutely superb with a particularly excellent performance from the young boy. The construct that somebody could have no knowledge of or ability to properly comprehend the outside world because all they had known was the inside of 12ft x 12ft box is a powerful one. The other strong impression given was that what is contained in the film storyline really is only the beginning.

We saw it at the Filmrauschpalast; a first visit to a Kiez Cinema in fairly unfashionable district. It felt like going back 15 years to a Berlin that seems to be gradually vanishing; a heavily pierced and tattooed attendant, €12 for two entrance charge and an all-pervading smell of dope as we emerged into the cool night air. Fabulous and they even said we could bring the dog next time.

I also watched Smoke for the first time last week with Harvey Keitel and William Hurt. Just utterlly fantastic story-telling.

Watched Look Who's Back last night. Not sure what I was expecting as I found the book to be excellent but wondered how it would transfer to the big screen. I worried for nothing. The film was genuinely funny but quite thought provoking at times. Well worth a watch.

This may have already been mentioned as it was made in 1998; farcical, energetic and very funny, the Serbian film 'Black Cat, White Cat'.

The second time I've seen it and only now have I realised that the leading actress, Branka Katić, also played Tatiana Taylor, Barry's second

I couldn't agree more...it is a superb film,really well acted. I actually went to see Eddie the Eagle but it turned out to be the subtitled version so I went to see this instead. Funnily enough I had read the blurb and wasn't that fussed but I couldn't have been more wrong. Just go and watch it.

Watched Nymphomaniac: Volume I on Filmfour last night. I was expecting a scientific study on the psychological state and consequences of the uncontrollable urges which a sufferer endures and the impact this may have on their lifestyle and possible relationship dynamics.

It was quite naughty.

I saw Elvis & Nixon last week with a friend...EXCELLENT! One of the executive producers (Jerry Schilling) was Elvis' best friend and was present during the entire sequence of events. He didn't write the story or the screenplay, but guided its development to ensure it captured the essence of the remarkable meeting between the President and the King. There are many hilarious moments that could only result from the intersection of such opposite characters.
