I watched "Under the Skin" last night. It's damn fine, really European in it's slow, unconclusive and enigmatic way and to top it all, we get to see Scarlett J in the buff.

just finished watching capt. phillips, pretty intense, solid cast. what i didnt get is why these huge cargo ships dont have a soldier or two on deck to protect them against such. one person with a gun would be capable of defending against such an attack. instead they are on their own and then need to get rescued. does not compute.

Last night we watched The Great Beauty on Curzon Home Cinema. A fabulous and exquisitely filmed movie set in, or rather featuring, Rome and very much in the tradition of Fellini with an absolutely superb soundtrack; you will be rewarded if you have good sound and a big screen. A good performance from Tony Servillo.

If there is a crap movie thread, you can put Green Lantern in it, watched it last night, "meh" of the first degree.

We watched the White Ribbon by Michael Haneke last night (Das Weisse Band). A very well made film in Haneke's almost trademark discomforting style. For this can you can read that it's fairly grim; think Heimat with all the cheerfulness and optimism sucked out. Other than the storyteller I don't think there is a character with any redeeming features - by this I mean that the characters are extremely well drawn, just that they're all sh;ts. Uncomfortable but worthwhile viewing.

Another plus 1 for Guardians. Really enjoyed it, nothing too cerebral but great entertainment done really well.

    Red face

I can't believe you have used 'Adam Sandler' and 'brilliance' in the same sentence. :)

But I suppose SOMEONE must like his dire 'comedies' - and here you are!! ;)

well got round to watching it last night, and wow, much better than the first movie. Thicker story line, with more intense fighting scenes, at 2 and a half hours long, it went in a flash.

That old Tom Cruise & Paul Newman one "Color of Money", watched it again after many years, it's still entertaining. The old dear sitting near me on the train in Zurich seemed to approve as well.

Saw Captain Phillips over the weekend. The premise seems pretty boring but I really enjoyed it. Tom Hanks does a great job.

  33. #1633
Guardians Of The Galaxy was fantastic! Really, really fun and wonderful to look at.

  34. #1634
    Another for Captain Phillips.
I assume the water cannon scene was accurate to real life but the whole thing could have been avoided with manned cannons with protective shields.

Still a great film and very moving in the sick bay with Tom Hanks after his rescue.

  35. #1635
Another +1 for Guardians Of The Galaxy! I'm pretty sick of superhero movies, but there's definetely something fresh about this one. Looks great as well - a little bit of The Fifth Element about it IMO.

Just finished watching 'The Wolf of Wall Street' with her indoors.

Well scripted, good acting, few moments where i wished I'd secretly been a millionaire surrounded by strippers in my mid twenties (note - hid this from the missus).
Felt it could have been trimmed a little, but overall, solid film worth a watch.

The first movie I ever fell asleep while watching, aged around 8, not seen it since.

I hate to admit to it but after avoiding Friends with Benefits, I actually really enjoyed it on the TV last night.

I still find it hard to see Timberlake as an actor, but I'm slowly coming round to the appeal of Kunis

Glad to hear it was a good watch. Does it go right up to his death?

I believe Mick Jagger had something to do with its production.
    Cheers,

The film covers his entire lifetime, but doesn't depict his actual death. Jagger was one of the producers, and performed at some of the same events as Brown early in their respective careers.

Like others have said above. I saw Guardians of the Galaxy this weekend. What a superb film, I have very little bad to say of the film. It was well paced, very funny and had the right amount of action.

It very much reminded me of the 2 Hellboy films. I guess it was a sort of Avengers meets Hellboy.

I watched Watchmen again the other night... it was very good, but had some weird animation in it about pirates that I don't remember from the last time - I think it may be some cut other than the theatrical one - was 3 hours 35 minutes long!
