    American Hustle - loved it.

From the long con game to the atrocious '70's fashions and Christian Bales comb over - just great fun.
    Cheers,

I watched Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy for the first time the other day and really enjoyed it, great performances all round from some of the best British actors of their generation ( Oldman, Hurt, Cumberbach, Hardy, Firth et al)

  4. #3504
Watched the UHD 4K version of Star Trek Beyond last night, I enjoyed the movie, but perhaps just not as much as the previous two efforts, the main baddie was not bad enough.

I disliked the new Star Trek - the plot was like a bad episode rather than a feature film.
It's just a matter of time...

I watched it on Amazon this afternoon and have to say that I agree.

Some of the special effects were good but the storyline is poor. OK to watch on the TV but seeing at the cinema would have been very disappointing.

Last night we watched Leonard Cohen - Bird on a Wire on Arte. It's a fly-on-the-wall documentary made in 1974 during a European tour. Good music and the man himself can be a little infuriating at times. Amusing to observe some of the top-drawer totty throwing themselves at him.

Doesn't appear to be available in the UK but just in case you're somewhere it'll play:

Watched the latest Jason Bourne film last night, sticks to the same formula as all the others, but if you're a fan then a pretty enjoyable couple of hours.

Nocturnal animals is an intriguing psychological thriller, beautifully shot. Some great performances. 7.5/10

Concussion was decent IMO. Had a spare few hours when the boys were asleep and the house was nice and quiet

Just back from Hacksaw Ridge - I'm thinking Oscar nomination ( but not win)

One of those where the history of his actions seem so impossible yet documented

I watched 90% of Grimsby today. Good? I'm not sure. Enjoyable in parts, cringe worthy in others. I won't watch it again but I don't think it was a waste of time!

  21. #3521
I watched the Revenant last night.

I can't say I was a fan. Just didn't do it for me. Its got a amzing cinematography but I just didn't feel awed by it like I was expecting.

I greatly enjoyed "Ole, Ole, Ole" about the recent South American (including Cuba) leg of the Rolling Stones World Tour.

Exactly. It doesn't pretend to be anything other than a revenge thriller, and it's great IMO. Looking forward to #2.

Thank you - it's good to know I could have watched it without German sub-titles.

Sully. Interesting film, didn't realise that the American authorities tried to blame him for loss of aircraft.

I saw it the first time round and again recently.

Two very different takes on the same story.

    Fever Pitch last night.

Really good story, intertwining Arsenal's seasons in two different times - and a little bit of romance.
    Cheers,

Watched Sully recently, directed by Clint Eastwood, and starring Tom Hanks, I think it was a good film based on the true story. Another fitm I was recently which I can recommend is Snowden.

Watched Rurouni Kenshin last night (free for Amazon Prime members!). Enjoyable samurai flick set in the late 1800s. Subtitled, but don't let that put you off.

Just watched a documentary "Don't Stop Believin': Everyman's Journey" about the American rock band's quest to find a new front man, which they eventually did after trawling through Journey tribute bands on Youtube. The replacement is great.

Land of Mine. A Danish movie set just after WWII about young German soldiers who have to clean up Danish beaches from (German) mines. A movie that fits into the Scandinavian 'tradition'. Worth watching and 7.8 on IMDB.

Watched 'swallows and amazons' last night, lovely little family film. Odd casting though, seemed to be alot of comedy actors playing straight parts, Harry Enfield as grumpy farmer man, Jessica Hynes as farmers wife, and i'm sure baddy no2 was Angelos Epithemiou of shooting stars/house of fools fame
