Thread: How many do you take on holiday?

How many do you take on holiday?

Off to France tomorrow. Wondering how many to take. I think three should be enough...

G Shock - Beach, BQ and beer.
    Smiths - General wear
Tissot - Dinner party at friends.

    Anybody else ever ponder this?

Easy. One. Though I don't go where I have friends so casual is always fine! It tends to be my Orange Monster.

One, so I can validate buying a new one :)
And what if customs looks through your bag to find 3 or 4 watches :? (Wouldn't matter within EU)

I'd usually take two. One for going out and something I'm not fussed about clanging into things.

    Usually take 2 when travelling.

1 Patek (business, dinners, smart) and 1 Rolex (sun sea and sand) covers the bases.

Usually take a G Shock for messing about in pool and beech, then a couple of others if we're out in the evening. Or shopping and happen to find a decent watch shop.

Just the one for me. Tough, good WR (2000m should be adequate!), UTC, fairly anonymous and looks OK for most situations.

This one, Lume is awesome so I can see it at night,it can dress up on it's bracelet(Easy to change lugs) I dive with it on the NATO and its tough as anything.Quartz too so a perfect grab 'n' go for me on holiday. Also, no ones gonna mug me for it. I travelled across America with this last year for a month and it was the perfect holiday watch.

I take three and wear a fourth....

...although I admit to being a bit of an obsessive compulsive with a bit of OCD thrown in for good measure!

I suspect if I had enough travel cases, I'd take more

:D I took two last time, one for the water and one for the evenings, would do the same again.

Re: How many do you take on holiday?

    One......
Usually my G Shock GW-M5600....Solar powered, radio controlled, water resistant, alarm, invisible to muggers etc etc.
That being said, I usually come back with two.

Re: How many do you take on holiday?

Usually take a couple. One atomic G-Shock and the other an automatic of some sort usually the Seiko SKX031 or SKX007. I have not had the nerve so far to take one of my expensive watches with me.

Re: How many do you take on holiday?

    Only one.

Breitling Steelfish if I am diving or a lot of beach and partying (Bali, Thailand).

If it involves work something smart but not too 'flashy", my Breitling Aerospace normally or Speedy.

Re: How many do you take on holiday?

After having a watch stolen from my case a few years ago, I have a strict one-watch-policy for holidays so need to take my best all-rounder - so has to have good WR and not be too delicate. Until recently this has always been my Sub. In many ways it's difficult to beat - perfect for both by the pool and going out in the evenings. My most recent holiday I took my BP FF - arguably the classier watch, but due to it's size, probably more sporty and less dressy.

Usually just a G Shock for me as we're usually camping. My dilemma is which G Shock!

Just the one - Seiko black Monster.

Re: How many do you take on holiday?

Same for me - just a G-Shock. Usually take my Mudman as it has world time on it and easy to change the time if it doesn't. Tend not to go to posh places where that would be frowned upon!

Vacation: Some of the places I go to, I do not want to leave a watch behind in a motel/hotel room, so I bring just one.

Work: One for wearing and one as a back-up.

Depends entirely on where I'm heading. I've just returned from a 10 day trip to Russia where I wore a cheap Russian beater the whole time. I tend to go on holiday to destinations where expensive watches are a bit out of place.

Re: How many do you take on holiday?

For holidays, I tend to take just 1 watch that I won't be too annoyed about getting scratched on the beach.
Black Monster is ideal, and looks fine for evening meals too.
That being said.. this does sometimes lead to an impulse buy while on my trip... which perhaps wouldn't happen if I took a couple to start with.

Most hols are to sunny climates where ill want to do some sailing + diving so its usually the Orange Monster on orange silicon strap.

But if its a business trip, generally its a stainless Longines on black leather strap, dont often take more than one watch, my guiding rule is always to travel as light as possible.

As I almost exclusively take city vacations I just take whatever my fav dressy piece is at the moment. If I was going to some combination of city and beach (florida comes to mind), I'd be torn between one nice allrounder and one dress piece plus a diver.

Re: How many do you take on holiday?

Somewhere between one and three, depending on the holiday. Usually a daily wearer (PO XL, PAM164) and then either a beater (Suunto Core) or a dress watch (IWC Portuguese, Zenith El Primero) or both.

Re: How many do you take on holiday?

used to just take one flash (ish) watch and wear it everywhere but thought better of it when filling a car up in a gas station in a very rough part of LA 10 years ago so now i take 2.... and try and remember to wear the cheap one in the rougher areas... not always easy:))

When I go on holliday it is to visit something interesting ánd to relax. The latter means I don´t even take a camera and only the no worries watch I wear.
My daily wear GS tc quartz fits the bill and is both rugged and nice enough for something adventurous either as activity or in charming company.

I don't know how true this is but my AD once told me a client of his bought a watch abroad and didn't declare it when he arrived back.

A number of years later he was walking through customs from a different holiday and was stopped and asked where he got his watch from.
His response of "I've had this for years" apparently didn't suffice and upon further investigation (it was registered for warranty in his name by the AD he bought it at abroad), he was charged with tax evasion and now has a criminal record.

Dunno if it's just scare mongering or whatever but it might be worth thinking about?

Off to Center Parcs soon with the family. Biking and everyday in the pool. Last time scratched watch on the pool tiles so it'll either be Gshock, traser or incoming TSAR.

I came across a similar story some time ago. My guess is that it's an urban myth propogated by UK ADs. I assume - though I am more than willing to be told otherwise - that even our bureaucrats do not require us to keep purchase receipts for more than a couple of years, if at all. On the other hand, if you have a watch which is known to be registered somewhere, they would probably be more than happy to spend more taxpayer's money on an investigation than they would ever recover in fines.
