It's just a matter of time...
Yes it looks much nicer, and a better fit and more classic looking...good decision!
When you see them side by side like that it reminds you how much nicer the classic is.
Even though I just got the SubC, I too admit that I like the case of the old one more. On the bezel I'm more or less indifferent between the two and the maxidial I like. The issue for me is the bracelet; I just can't live with the tinny bracelet and clasp on the older ones. Every time I handle one I'm dissappointed, but that's just me. ;)
If anyones thinking of doing the same thing I want to go the other way and change my 16600 SD for a SubC!
Don't do it.Originally Posted by kman
OP - a great choice. I have had 1 Subc and am on my 12th (or so) 16610.
I have both and they're both very good watches in their own way...if I had to keep one though I'd keep the Sub C...I like the sportier look and solid bacelet more
Good move :) Exactly what I did.....and I don't regret it for one minute... The Sub C far exceeds the old SD in my book :)Originally Posted by kman

good choice. i think it's the crown guards on the new case i can't get on with, another few years and maybe i,ll get used to them
I love both the new and old but if it was a choice I would keep the subc. I prefer the bracelet and look.
I've never really lusted after a 16610LN as to me the LV is the ultimate of the species. However, having owned and not bonded with a 116610LN I understand where you are coming from and certainly think you've moved in the right direction. Congratations! :)
Just wish they'd done a transitional model... Can you imagine? 16610 case with updated bracelet, ceramic bezel and maxi dial. Mmmmmmmm.
Well done, I so much like the 16610 more that the 116. But would have gone for an LV possibly like the one Dunc recently sold with a black insert...
Congrats on a great choice 1
I'm just about to acquire a 116610 to go with my 2-line 14060m, so I can alternate between old skool cool and blingy newness, until I decide which is the long-term keeper :)
I just have to say thanks sharing for the photo. Seeing the two side by side is a great way to compare them.Originally Posted by sunster

Agree with the OP on this.
Rolex should never have made the case fatter; totally spoiled the lines of the watch and it now doesn`t suit a smaller wrist like the old model did.

Thanks all!
Still not regretting anything :D

well i just bought the new 116610 ceramic and i love :)
I think this was indeed the point of changing the case. They kept it nominally at the same size, but made it look bigger (that's what the market wants). It's still only 40mm, so it's not silly big. It looks biggest head on from top due to the lugs, but from the sides just same as the old one.Originally Posted by walkerwek1958
I think the new rolex has more presence but the my imo :)
Something just appeals more to me than the newer version - love the older one.
You just cannot beat a old sub
Like a gold lamé suit ? ;) :lol:Originally Posted by taz11

Prefer the pre Sub C as well, just blends into the bracelet better in my eyes.
Do like the feel and look of the newer watch but the older one just looks "right" IMO
Like a Hummer with chrome wheels has more presence than a Range Rover...but I know which I'd prefer...Originally Posted by taz11
I love the older 16610 but the new Csub is a real piece of kit and looks awesome on the wrist ,it also wears beautifully and i love mine after giving them a wide berth when they were first launched .
The Csubs can also be bought very reasonably second hand for anyone wanting to try one without blowing your brains in on brand new as well ,the 11610lv that recently sold on sc was a really good buy as well for the new owner .
I've had my SubC for a few days now and love it. You soon get used to the new shape, the clasp is fantastic, bezel looks great and the extra weight from the solid link bracelet and thicker case give it a nice presence on the wrist. I still like my old ND sub, but in comparison it feels like a cheap bit of tat!
I think the problem is that Rolex released nearly 20 years worth of development updates in one go, which takes some getting used to. If these changes had been made over 2 or 3 iterations, they wouldn't have been so controversial.
After a week of wearing the 116610 I only can say that I love it.
It's so much more watch then a 16610. The bezel looks magnificent, escpecially in the sun.
The older case design is a bit more subtle but nevertheless IMHO the newer one just feels better.

at the end of the day, both are great imo. love them both but glad to know you are enjoying it.
I have a 16613 bi-metal and a 116610LV.
I imagined that once I had worn the new ceramic Sub, the older version would feel a bit "old", but as it turns out, it has renewed my pleasure in wearing the older model.
There's no doubt that the bracelet on the 16613 feels a bit less "solid" than the 116610, and the fact that the new bracelet is easily adjusted makes it a little more practical should there be a need to adjust it.
This is quite interesting - I'm in the 'much prefer the older case' camp too. However, although I've seen loads in AD's I've not even been tempted to try the new ceramic subs on my wrist. I've had a modern Turn-o-graph so had experience of the new bracelet/clasp developments (admittedly not the new clasp on the ceramic sub) which frankly didn't bother me either way. The old style bracelet does the job, looks good on the wrist and is light enough to feel comfy.
I guess I must REALLY dislike the new subs if I haven't even tried one on!
But, you've owned both and dumped the new style. I'm awaiting my16610 LV back from a service, and missing it already. The 16610 is a classic IMHO, the new version is just a generic looking sports watch - reminds me of the Tudor Hydronaut and actually looks a bit 'Tag Heuer' to me. Obviously Rolex fanboys may disagree! Good luck with you new purchase :-)
Just traded my 16610 up to a deepsea and whilst the deepsea is a superb watch, I'll be looking for another 16610 very soon, as soon as funds allow really, the 16610 is just a classic piece.
I personally couldn't live with the old wimpy cheap feeling bracelets-
so I'd have to agree with the folks who are pro SubC
I prefer the Sub C as it has a more sporty feel. Though in 10 years time the smaller case of the 16610 will probably be more appealing.
I did exactly this too. Sold a sub c for a 2003 model and havent regretted it one bit. The new rolexes are unbalanced and can't see me ever buying one again
can't go wrong with either, personally I like the bigger case.
I like the bigger case too.
Another rolex addict lol.
Another answer here is the Sea Dweller 4000. I couldn't get along with the ceramic Sub.....those thick lugs...but the Sea Dweller works well for my tastes.
I sold my 16610 a couple of years back and I sometimes regret letting it go. The slimmer case is far nicer than the Subc and it suits a smaller wrist better. I can`t understand why Rolex messed around with the case design; upgrading the bracelet, bezel and fitting the maxi dial all made sense, but the case should've been left alone. Some people are happier with a larger chunk of metal on the wrist..........I`m not one of them.
The older bracelet design attracts criticism for being tinny, but once it's fastened on the wrist it feels fine. It does go against the trend for heavier bracelets that feel more substantial, but this shouldn`t be confused with quality. The Omega SMP bracelets have a nice 'quality' feel to them when new, but having handled several really badly worn ones I'm not convinced they stand up to wear and tear very well.
