THIN is the new BLACK
Dutch issued Universal, WWII period. Dial carries the crown symbol of the then Queen, Wilhemina (sp?). Manual wind movement, plated case with snap on back. Another boot sale find :DCan you give us any info on the Universal, please

that is the mark of Queen Wilhelmina.
I have one that is quite like that, mine was standard issue for the dutch airforce.
The difference is that it has some form of magnetic protection (it has a soft iron dial , movement surrounding and dustcap), universal 262 movement (guess that will be the same) incablock antishock system and a screw-on back with a gasket making it somewhat waterproof
Some of them had fixed lugs and no queen Wilhemina marking on the dial.
Also due to the period of unexpected and intense tourism here in those days a lot ended up being German army issue, but the Germans also have ordered their own batches lateron.
Universal is one of the very good brands that sadly didn't make it up to today (what is sold nowadays isn't real Universal, its badge engeneering) but definitively worth a second look if you come across one, ther movements where always screwed together very well :)
BTW, beautiful deckwatch... being an avid sailor myself I really like those big deckwatches and ships' chronometers 8) .... the ones Ulysse Nardin made are among the best :)
