More talk of the Omega Speedmaster >>>

What is in your opinion guys the most desirable Speedmaster made to this day, I loved the way the original looked for ages but i bought the Reduced version the 3510.50 thinking it was the perfect size for me, but then i had eyes for the Moon to Mars version which to me was the perfect choice for me >>

    The Reduced Model

    :D

Which is your choice for the Speedmaster? :)

I like your moon-to-mars - one of the more interesting variations.

My first Speedmaster was the Reduced, thinking the full size Professional was too big for my wrist. But time and experience cured that and I now have both.

To answer your question, the most desirable for me (acquisition of which will probably result in me selling my Professional and Reduced versions) is the one they announced at Basel, a re-issue of the pre-moon Speedmaster "First Omega In Space' or some-such marketing nonsense. Looks good to me though but may be difficult to get hold of.

I'm hoping it will continue beyond the initial limited numbered edition.

The Meteorite dial is a very attractive watch.

I've got the bog standard 3570.50 and I love it. Bought it new from Goldsmiths and they had a ltd edition one there as well ( though I forget which one) but I only had eyes for mine.

Had it four months (time does fly  ) now and it's still a solid favourite.

I bought a Moon to Mars when they were first released but sold it on here last year.

Yet another one of the big mistakes I've made!

I love vintage speedies - there were some real beauties in the 1960's but IMO the one that strikes the best balance between cost, vintage looks and serviceability is the 1968 transitional dialled /861 cal version. It has the same dial as its 321 powered predecessor (stepped, nice applied metal omega logo) but is a more practical choice from a parts/service perspective.

Here's one my old ones, sadly departed

If money was no object, probably one of the early broad arrow models.

For me the most desirable are the normal one, the original moonphase from 85 (?) and the Snoopy.

    The least desirable is obviously

It would have to be a version which had a date, I had the none date version and it had to go for that one and only reason.

I love the Newman Daytona-esque one with the white dial and black sub dials. 35th anniversary of some crap or other I think.

    Here's Dave Downing's lovely one...

That's always been one of my criteria with (nearly all) my watches. Must have the date, because I can never remember it otherwise.

That's despite it being on pc screen, emails, phone, iPad - even my pen displays the date!

Of the Moon Watches, it has to be the Lemania 5100 powered "Grail" - The better proportioned case, robust auto movement & the day / date function make it the winner for me. That said, I'd not turn my nose up at a 50th Anniversary "Patch" version either.

    Easy choice for me.

I've only ever owned one Speedmaster which was given to me on my 18th by my mother in 1971.

One of only two watches I've never considered flipping.

    I don't have a speedmaster (...yet), but if I could afford / find it, I really love the Alaska Project Speedmaster from a few years ago;

    ...but I'd settle for a 321 cal ;)

I know it's far from being the most desirable model but now I have a regular Speedmaster Professional I'm rather keen on the idea of getting an Alaska Project version now at some point... really like the styling of it!

IMHO a Speedy has to have the original cal. 321. This is a ref. 145.012-67

For me, the pre-moon vintage Speedies do it - either a cal. 321 or the transition cal. 861. If I was to get a newer version, the Meteorite Speedy would be my first choice ... :)

I personally think the Broad Arrow is the nicest model.

Re: More talk of the Omega Speedmaster >>>

Im of the opinion that you cant really beat the standard "moonwatch" model speedy for looks and relatively reasonable price. But you know what? I often find myself hankering for a Snoopy. All NASA significance aside, the characters from Peanuts remind me of my childhood and a little bit of Snoopy on the speedys otherwise rather serious face would give a little nod to not taking life too seriously. I think reading the time from a Snoopy would make me smile.

Re: More talk of the Omega Speedmaster >>>

I am a sucker for a black and gold dial. Not so keen on the crown and pushers though.

Although to be fair I have got a 321, as I like vintage too.
