PAM 382 'bronzo' six weeks in (patina)

Now then boys and girls, if you don't like Panerai for whatever reason that is tickety-boo with me. This post is not inviting opinions, extolling or praising Panerai or seeking to start a keyboard fight regarding the brand. It's intention is to simply show the changes to the bronze case in six weeks of quite extensive use.

The when new, pictures in the left column, today's on the right. The best indicator of overall colour change is the last picture. There are are a multitude of freckles showing overall, however my limited camera and skills can't reproduce them but the general colour is quite different and gets ever more pleasing 8)

This one clearly highlights the darkening

And these two just because :)

Thank you for not starting another unnecessary debate

no debate here.. i like that.

are you going to let it continue to develop a patina or do you reckon that once it starts to really kick in youll be tempted to polish? (or whatever the technical term is for tidying up bronze)

Clean it  nooooh :D The whole point for me is the fun it watching it 'mature', like it's owner, and it will become in it's own way unique, like it's 999 cousins.

Really enjoyed seeing this pictures! Do post some more in a few months time let's see how it is ageing. I would have loved one of these (not to be at the moment) but seeing yours 'mature' in this way is great. Thanks for posting.

    That is a lovely watch.
The best panerai I have seen to date.

Love it, love it, love it. Even more so because it is bronze and has a bronze crown, unlike some other makes that we could mention if we were allowed to enter into a debate. 8)

Doing a quick google shocked by the prices and surprised they only made 1,000 of them.
I would think panerai would sell a lot of that model if they made more and priced them at a sensible price that
would still allow them to make a handsome profit.

Viewing on an iPad and can only see one column of pics (the new ones, I think), sadly.

Looks great - is it meant to rapidly age or something?

Your Bronzo looks really beautiful - and like a good wine it's getting better and better. One of the nicest 2011 Releases of Panerai.

I was concerned that you were disappointed when it finally arrived Baz, which I suppose is always the danger for a long-awaited piece, so hope that I was wrong - or that you are happier with it now.

Although I've not had the chance to see one in real life, your pics certainly seem to be a high calibre and make it look less 'blingy' than I imagined. If the bronze is maturing with age then that can only make it even better.

I know that the green dial is not for everyone, but I actually quite like it :thumbleft:

It's an interesting model that deserves more air time than the never eneding Rolex threads IMO.

As far as I know these things are still selling at a good premium over List Price as not that many people can get on the order list, let alone have the patience to wait.

I was a little unsure when it finally arrived after such a long wait and the thought to flip it initially for a substantial profit did cross my mind. However, i've always had an eye for the unusual and non-mainstream stuff and decided to keep it. I'm glad i did as every time it's worn it changes a little, sometimes too little, but i see it as a long term thing if i want it to fully mature. The sobering thought is, it will probably be at it's best in 20-30 years’ time and I’m unlikely to be around to enjoy it then, so need to make the most of it now 8)

Im glad you stuck with it Baz, nothing worse than not feeling the love but these things take time and knowing it would age slowly ahs kept you hooked into it and now you are reaping the benifits

    Nice pics.

Mine's got a couple of months on yours, I've got some freckling but thats about it. Probably dont notice it as much cos I'm living with it every day, need to take some more pics and compare them to when it was new.

Glad you're happy with it, has to be a keeper just to watch the aging process.

Same on my laptop. I think the photos when new are the ones with the green strap.

It looks great. I'd really like a bronze diver - I was tempted by the Helson and the Magrette but decided they'd both be too big.

Saw the thread back to life and was hoping for an update, I think with all the recent biblical weather I would have been inclined to strap it to the washing line for a week and let nature take its course

I read somewhere that you can accelerate the ageing process of new bronze by popping it in a bag with a freshly hard boiled egg.... Not sure if it's complete bunkum or not though... Looks great either way! :D

It also accelerates the process if you tie it to your car and do a full lap of the M25!

Interesting, surprised by how much it looks like Gold in the pictures. My friebd has an Anonimio Bronze which he has worn for the last 7 - 8 years and it's very, very dark, almost black in some light conditions.....

I don't think that would have been a PAM382? they only started appearing in public last year and the latter half at that iirc :)

Loved it in the flesh, and it's certainly losing the gangsta rapper look I think you mentioned.I don't honestly think you could replace this watch with anything else which will mature or be as interesting in the future material wise.
    P.s if you've got a will,I think you've still got my contact details ;-)

Must confess I don't usually like Panerai but your watch does look fantastic.

Maybe a daft idea but could you slow the patination at some stage (if required of course) by the use of wax/polish/oil etc. Perhaps beeswax for example?

A current fad, and the bronze does nothing for me, I much prefer the 305.

  44. #44
I wonder if it's possible to just stop it darkening any more once it's got to a density you really like rather than letting it go completely "dark almost black" or would putting anything on it then completely ruin that lovely look?

    Hi Baz,

As shown above, we all have our own tastes and opinions. I am not a huge fan of the 305 though love the 382. It has to be, IMHO one of the best looking watches I have ever seen and would love to own one though probably never will.

    Please keep the pictures coming.

    Regards.

No need to qualify the thread/post as you did - it's a lovely watch and the bronze looks fantastic (the 1950's cases are great anyway, mind).
