Some watches are made for NATO...

I have just opened the parcel, changed the strap (not right colour, I know, but this is only 22mm NATO I have), and here we go :

    P.S.
And yes, before you ask, today it's full moon here :D

Very nice - reminds me of the photos of Peter Speake-Marin wearing one of his watches on a blue NATO strap. Unexpectedly elegant, given it's utilitarian origins...

Kemner Marine, Unitas 6498-1 , I have ask him, if he can make one without logo, he said, why not 8)

12 days later, on my wrist.

Very slim, super comfortable on wrist

    //edit: two more

I think it's a lovely watch, but IMHO it was certainly not "made for a NATO" because it's way too smart-looking. Would look great on a nice leather strap, though.

    Here's one:

Doesn't work for me - like wearing wellingtons with a tuxedo.

Looks OK on the NATO, but IMHO it's far better suited to a nice brown croc, similar to this

Yeah second the votes on a leather - it's a dressy specimen so a NATO is sort of slumming it!

Looks ok on nato, but really needs a nice leather strap.Nice watch though!

I'm another one who thinks to NATO on that one, I'm afraid.

My similar Stowa MA lives on a brown leather. Wouldn't dream of putting it on a NATO.

Re: Some watches are made for NATO...

I often use NATO straps with my vintage Chinese mechanical watches...

    1970s Sea-Gull ST5b piepan:

    17 jewel Beijing Watch factory / 1980s:

    1980s Baoshihua "fade dial":

...and more modern, a 35 jewel 2005 Shanghai:

    a vintage-inspired 2005 Shanghai:

..and, like many companies, Shanghai has a "sub-style" too...

...and one that's not vintage but a re-issue:

    ...and a Russian...

Seeing as nobody else has posted one yet, how about a G10, in this case my wife's 0555 on one of Eddie's straps:

I have never understood the Nato thing, I do understand that we are all different but to me they pretty much always look dreadful.
Bit like wearing multi-coloured canvas shoes, with tailored trousers.
Are they cheap? Cos they sure look cheap.
While i am at it, I have never understood the popularity of brown straps either. They match a very small number of watches, and look hideous on most. Like brown shoes.

In my opinion, the bright blue and pink straps which you seem to favour look rather childish. Brown straps go nicely with brown shoes & trews.

I've started to follow European (non)convention, and now wear brown shoes/belt with navy suits.

Those who matter (i.e. not blokes) love it ;)

Lovely PP would look so nice with a strap that was in some way cohesive with the tones in the dial and case of the watch. Brown just isn't even in the right key. :)

I take great care to ensure that there is some degree of tonal symmetry between my watches and straps. As for childish. HOW VERY DARE YOU ! :D

I wouldn't waste too much time trying to educate watchmakers on matching straps. They seem to be convinced that everybody loves brown. It's all a bit of a circle game. I have had to change the strap on almost every watch I have bought.

Interesting photo though. Didn't know you could still actually get corduroy.

Re: Some watches are made for NATO...

P.S. as regards NATOs - it's a fashion thing and will no doubt pass. I do it so I can pretend to myself that my 1972 5513 is actually a MilSub. At Ģ10 a pop, you can change the look of your watch very quickly.

I always ear my Amphibias and Komandirskies on NATOs. They seem to be a perfect match. ;-)

Depends on to whom you are referring, I think. There's a fashion fad for NATOs (and Timexes) in the mass market, 20-30s segment at the moment but I think NATOs have a more lasting appeal amongst WISs (even on watches that some WISs think shouldn't go near a NATO ;-) ).

NATO straps that eternal debate. I must admit now that I am a fan of the humble NATO. I currently have a Breitling Superocean 44 on a NATO and also my Citizen BM6400. The Breitling looks very nice. I am just debating whether to put my Explorer on a nice black NATO, mmmm!?

Marine watches look fine on NATOs. They are tool watches after all. But then I would say that wouldn't I?
