Thanks for posting, as you say, a very interesting read.
A genius.
RIP.
Free sample of 'best bits' of The Economist given away tonight on my way home.
This was in it, interesting read. Sorry if it's been posed before.

Great to see his expertise getting this level of coverage - Great credit to a great innovator ..... RIP
Really interesting read. God look after his soul and may his spirit live forever in WISdom...
A genius indeed, but a flawed one.
RIP

Nobody will really know what went on in his private life, but the fact he ignored his daughters existence suggests a flawed personality. By his own admission he said he hadn't been a good father.Originally Posted by markblack

Thanks for posting Mark.
Fascinating stuff. Would love to read a bit more about him.

THIN is the new BLACK
It's only fairly recently that I've come to learn about Daniels. Fascinating character.
Great post. Thanks.
Thanks for the second link too...
Just spent the best part of 3 hours watching the clips....
Funnily enough I was talking with a friend at the weekend who had a tenuous connection to George Daniels (friend of a friend's, aunt's vet's, neutered cat's watch dealer kind of connection!), so did a quick search yesterday and came up with this article http://www.independent.co.uk/news/peopl ... 67792.html
This link is superb and well worth watching. Interesting to know that Patek couldn't and wouldn't make his co-axial escapement properly so he buggered off to Omega!!Originally Posted by abraxas
Cue the inevitable disputation of that comment! But, yeah, thats about the essence of it "couldn't and wouldn't". Well-put.Originally Posted by funkstar

A genius, what great contributions he made to the world of time.
He will go down in history with the greats for sure.
Genius is an often over used term to describe ability or achievement.
With Daniels, "Genius" does'nt seem quite enough of an accolade.
A bit bonkers ? possibly..
Spike Milligan was described as a comedy genius & was barking mad for much of his life !
