    Valuation of Rolex required

Hi all, looking for an approx value for the below two tone Rolex as hopefully I will be selling it on behalf of my father.

I know two tone isn't for everyone, but want to get the best price for it

It's an oyster perpetual with a pyramid dial from 1987. It was serviced a few years ago by Mallorys of Bath and keeps excellent time.

It has a rolex box (not original to watch) and all original papers, calendar and wallet

It is in great condition but does have a pin prick hole in the gold bezel (at 12 mins past in picture) and whilst this is visible I am sure it can be filled by a competent jeweller

I know what I think it's worth, but would like some clarification

    Thanks in advance

    Mark

In my non expert opinion a dealer would buy this from you at £1,500 and sell it for £2,950ish.

I think that this is too high. A couple of years ago my wife bought a mint TT midsize DJ dated 1993 from WOS with a fresh Rolex service for £1500.

    midsize though...

between £2500-£3000 sounds about right, with cosc cert and a slightly unusual dial... whats the condition of the bracelet like, as that will have a great impact?

As with most Rolex bracelets there is some stretch, but still very presentable.

It's a bit marmite. With all the papers I'd have thought £1750 - 2000. Maybe more if it just happened to by the spec someone was looking for.
    This year for someone's 25th?

I would get the bezel repaired. Buyers for these are few and far between, so why leave something which might put someone off? £2,000 would then be a fair price. How on earth did he manage to do that anyhow?

I reckon it's worth getting the bezel repaired; IMO this could be tricky. The bezel needs removing by someone who knows what they're doing otherwise It'll end up even more damaged.

Bracelet condition has a big effect on the value of these and it's definitely a weak spot. Slight stretching is to be expected but some get into a horrendous condition. Bracelets don`t get replaced because they cost is crazy.

With the bezel fixed and assuming the bracelet to be in good condition, I`d say around £2000. A really mint example that's been serviced in recet years, with B & P, would be around £2500-£2600.

Unfortunately gold isn`t popular with many buyers today; personally I love bicolour watches and I`ve got a few nice ones. The TT Datejust the steel Submariner are the quintessential Rolexes IMO.

Lovely dial, I've got a black one:

I reckon 1800-2000 in that spec and condition.

Just had mine serviced by Rolex, full B&P, certificates, tag, etc and turned down £2750 last week.

The black dials on watches are very often more sought afther, and therefor more valuable. So don't compare the black and white versions 1 on 1.
