Great cliff hanger and I can't wait till the next season... Having said that, at a few points this season it has been a bit like watching bear grylls - a series of bad decisions and poor judgement! I find myself shouting at the tv "what were you thinking!" ...exploring places that are obviously dodgy, letting baddies off the hook... Walking into traps... All a bit lazy and slightly unimaginative

still looking forward to the next series, they have openend up the playing field with the Saviours , hiiltop and the 2 "Robocops" on Horseback who seemed friendly anyway

    Cheers

I bet he regretted not taking on the first road block as it looked the easiest to take on.

Where did all the Saviours suddenly come from? Just a whole load of blokes hanging about in the forrest!

    Crikey, nearly season 7 time!
The States get it on Sunday, UK have to wait until Monday again - it's going to be torture not reading spoilers!!!

Who do we think is gonna get to meet "Lucile"? I still fancy Glenn - to follow the comics - but either Abraham or Maggie (+ child) would have a serious impact as well. I'm positive that Carl is safe unfortunately, I'd like to see that sheriff hat bashed through his head, and it's obvious that Rick is fine as well - anyone else is fair game but not that many characters there would really be a loss to the group.

The worrying thing is that Norman Reedus has been quoted as saying that the initial death scene with Negan is very brutal, very graphic and will jolt the audience pretty severely... but that isn't even the biggest shock of the episode, and fans may not be happy. Anyone else think Daryl is gonna get it?

The season is said to have a seriously bleak first half (until the mid-season break I presume), with Rick and co absolutely owned by "The Saviours".

I'm thinking Eugene too but maybe that's what they want us to think!! Maggie would be a bombshell but entirely plausible I guess. I'll miss her if she goes :-(

Oh dear, looks like there is a pretty credible leak online about the death(s).

Can't wait to see it now, it looks like it's going to be a pretty dramatic one.

I haven't watched any Walking Dead. Is it possible to start watching the current new series as a stand alone thing or would I be completely in the dark as to what's going on?

You'd need to definitely watch the last series to make out what is going on, certainly for the start of this series.

Thanks. I may have to give it a miss then. I hardly have time to catch up if I'm a few episodes behind so a whole series is a nightmare.

  19. #369
    Damn!!!

Great episode - possibly the best ever. We wake up early, so watched the recording of the early showing.

    Spoliers below (watch it first!!!!!)

That was very well done. JDM is superb - and clearly relishing the role.
Throwing us a curveball by sacrificing Ford early doors, but to then killing off Glen (one of the core group) - very dramatic.
The whole axe scene with Carl was very tense.
Clearly they were toying with us, but you can't knock it's effectiveness.
My only concern is that we've now got about five episodes of moping around before something else happens.

  20. #370
Great episode (as most of them are), Negan seems a very interesting new character. Looking forward to this season.

Shame about the 2 that became a little to close in their introduction to Lucille, both of them will be missed.

That was possibly the most intense thing I've ever watched, I'm not sure I took a breath in the last 40min.

  25. #375
    Excellent stuff.

The brutality was OTT, but some of the acting was really good.

That was hard to watch! Smashing up zombies is fair game and almost has a touch of dark humour to it sometimes (like the swinger from the bridge scene) but Negan's two slayings were the most violent things I have seen in a long time; I'm not sure I have the stomach for it anymore.

The Walking Dead - MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS!!!

Horrific, for a few heart stopping and gut wrenching moments it genuinely made me question whether it's something that I really want to continue watching anymore.

As an aside - quite how Fear the Walking Dead is a spin-off of this is beyond me!

  32. #382
I've stuck with this series up to now but found this episode really brutal and unpleasant, and not remotely 'entertaining'. Not sure I can take any more episodes of Rick losing it and doing his wobbly lip routine again either - and as a series it seems to be caught in a loop of one or two outrageous episodes before it has a lull of mediocrity, and not sure I can be bothered to spend time watching that any more 😕

Savage to say the least! As said before, going to be weeks of nothing now before the mid season break where we'll be left in another cliffhanger no doubt.

I do not understand the enthusiasm for that episode. It was torture porn, akin to Hostel, Saw etc. It was not, in my opinion, good television, and I didn't think the acting was of a particularly high standard either - Daryl and Carl were awful. I don't know if I'll bother to continue watching. I applaud them for realising that they need to focus on a threat other than the walkers, but at best this season will be "The Governor" all over again. I think I'm out at this point.

In fairness, Carl is awful at the best of times. The gamble of casting a child actor - you don't know whether they're going to develop as they get older. Ironically his (screen) mother, Sarah Callies was diabolically bad - totally unconvincing in everything she's done IMO.

Whilst I really enjoyed the episode, I know what you mean about there being an element of repetition - they've moved onto a new "big bad" for the series. There's a great John Cleese-voiced parody on YouTube.

It's partly the nature of all tv dramas, though. Rinse-and-repeat until the ratings drop.

I was musing last night whilst watching how mainstream really horrific gore and violence is so commonplace and seemingly accepted, and sex and nudity is still quite 'tame' in comparison on TV.

Watched it last night and brutal sums it up for me. Didn't enjoy the pummelling of the heads into a mush at all.

Also on the camper van there was an axe on the roof so why didn't Rick just pick that up? And as much as I hate Carl's character the line drawing moment was quite intense.

Wow what an episode! My partner made me stop it she felt unwell, its was like an episode of Pacific...I never saw Glen coping it!!

Watched the after show and the writers mentioned that next week's episode is going to be alot more upbeat/funny. After that I'm certainly up for some easy viewing.

Exceptional television. Not pretty, in fact it was tough to look at in parts, but shocking and moving in equal parts.

It's no secret that I'm a big fan of the comics (*ahem*... graphic novels!) So it wasn't a massive shock when victim number two ***** got it, but I still didn't quite expect it!.
Negan is around for some time yet, until the big introduction of The Whisperers (run by Carls girlfriends mum by the looks of it). Don't expect a quick and bloody revenge from Rick & co, although the introduction of king Ezekiel and his pet tiger next week will start things in motion.

    I thought this too.

Why was there an axe on the van roof (in addition to one on the ground)?

Why didn't Rick conceal the second axe to use in the van?

It is. That's because they now invest the money into TV drama that used to go into film drama. There used to be 20 studios making up to 10 films a year. Now there's so very few studios left, making one or two blockbuster action movies per year is their best business model. Consequently, films like Kramer v Kramer, Colour Purple, Driving Miss Daisy, Psycho etc they would all get made on TV these days. Best time ever for TV drama as a result.

it was good but a little OTT, killing them is fair game but spending a long time bashing heads is a bit much really even for the walking dead. Should be a good season but hopefully it does not have a set of slow episodes before anything else happens.

I guessed Abraham would be the one to get it but Glenn was a surprise and very graphic

I'm finding myself watching fewer movies and more TV these days. The vast majority of action movies bore me. TBF there are still good movies being made - often indie films and low-profile sleepers.

We're definitely in a new Golden Age of TV, though. Some argue it started in the 90's with Twin Peaks - a movie director taking advantage of longer length to further develop plots/characters. You can certainly see the appeal of having ~10 hours to play with instead of ~2. It certainly picked up in the early 00's though. We've had some cracking TV since then IMO.

I'm with those that didn't particularly think it was a good episode. Lazy - gore instead of story.

It made me really miss the early seasons - might try and find some time for a binge re-watch :)

Yes, that's my take too. Big studios need blockbusters which tend to be action not drama - unless it's an established franchise or a book tie in. Great indie films and TV are the result , with far bigger stars than you could previously get.

Apparently there used to be quite a bit of snobbery against TV in the acting community, but clearly that has changed. I still think it's rare to have the biggest A-listers on TV (even though many of them started in it originally), but given the choice of a supporting role in a film or starring in a TV prog, they'll often go for the latter. (Probably better financially as well).
