    Screaming Eagles hunting worms?

OK so they are kites, but they where behaving a bit like Eagles while they hunted worms.

to be honest i couldnt see they where worms until i downloaded the pics at home.

they where landing some distance away from me but i think you can see the worm hanging from his talons [i had to crop that one quite a bit].

people tell me thay are scavengers, but they hunt as well as they where catching worms a good 3 hours in front of me.

this one reminds me of the angel of the north

Did anyone else think this thread was going to be about a film title?

They were using the worms as bait, they were badger hunting !

How did you miss the badger ?

I meant (jokingly) that the Kites were using the worms as bait to catch badgers.
Rather than them hunting worms, they were hunting badgers.
I have the pleasure of badgers regularly digging up my lawn feeding on worms and slugs.
We get Red Kites occasionally, stunning birds, especially because of their size.

Also if badgers are digging in the area the Kites may be spotting the worms in the earth.
Strange though, if you were going to look for worms you would do it on the ground tapping the surface to simulate rain,
    which brings up the worms.

Kites are survivors, they will eat anything. They have found that worms are an easy meal, as have buzzards and seagulls.

We are seeing a few around here recently, they are particularly keen on hanging around a local free-range chicken farm.

    Thanks for posting!

    Where are you?

I am looking forward to them moving into London, at least into the outskirts.

Of course, we should really have black kites back in London.
