Before kids ,in my 30's when i had no money sense ran a Jaguar XJ6 4.2 L for 5 years ,a beautiful car.
Seems to be a good topic for 'pub' chat :) .....
Mine would be my old Lancia Integrale 16v. Just such a great car in many ways; I've owned quicker, but not with the driver/car connection the 'grale gave :D Cool aesthetics (imho) as well.
Cheers
Before kids ,in my 30's when i had no money sense ran a Jaguar XJ6 4.2 L for 5 years ,a beautiful car.
For me it's a tie between three.
- SIIA Land Rover 109" full canvas
- Mk. I triumph 2.5 PI
- Mercedes R107 280SL
All were on their last legs by the time I owned them (late 90s, early 2000s) but all gave me unending amounts of joy.
This
Its on SC right now folks. Yours for the price of a Submariner!
Healey. Had it since I was 21.
"A man of little significance"
Has to be range rover sport. Had the M3 and Porsche 911, but RRS just is perfect for me.
For around 10 year the kids little were had a Nissan Primera 1.6LX. Had better cars before and since but it was completely reliable and it is wrapped up in so many great memories that it will always be my favourite.
I only have the choice between a Fiat Punto and an MG ZR
However, it does raise a good point for me.
The ZR cost me 2 grand, and despite it being a rover underneath and it having a few electrical niggles and rattles and currently a slow puncture, I can't think of anything better for the money.
It's low, it's quick, it's got a big grunty exhaust and a big grunty air filter. It's tonnes of fun.
On a summers evening on a country lane, it really is brilliant.
So when I think about the price point, I really have no idea what I'll replace it with next that will be as entertaining.
My favorite is still my first car...
Mini 1000...
I drove all over the UK in that and loved it...
You can't beat memories
Should have never gotten rid of my black Wrangler Sahara.....miss it :(
Still putting a huge smile on face :D
My first was also Mini 1000, in BL Brown, never forget the first time I took around a mini roundabout, handling was amazing, zero body roll, it got me from Hull to Devon via Essex before it died. Brilliant car.
Favourite is current:
Similar to the Mini in effect, makes a middle aged man feel young, specially with the N1 ECU fitted :D
Stunned at that decision. The proper Range Rover maybe. The Sport is well ummmm CRAPOriginally Posted by Cavham
Probably the Evo VI Tommi Makinen Edition. Had various cars (inc an Evo VIII MR) but this was raw, very crap interior but put the biggest smile on my face. Was mildly tuned with AP 6 pot brakes, a very capable B road car. Sold it about 8 years ago for probably what it's worth now, oh well
my fave car has to be my first. Ford Anglia Estate.
Not a great car but it was my favourite because of what it represented. Freedom, open road girls, no buses or trains, not walking home at 2am.
The car I loved most was my Beemer 525 E39 series. Lovely car, I did really bond with that.
20 years ago and a Fiat X19, in banana yellow (not sprayed by me!). Utterly unreliable of course, but despite frequent bump starts and headlights which occasionally wouldn't pop up together, it was huge fun, and the abiding memory is driving around with the Targa roof off (how easy that was to remove :)) whenever there was the merest hint of sun.
That would be my present car. I have had her for 6 years already, a supercharged Golf R32.
Based on how I felt about the car at the time I owned it:-
Mk1 Lotus Cortina. I rebuilt the engine which was in a cardboard box when I bought it.
or
Mercedes SL55 AMG
Whilst I still have a soft spot for the two 1960s Cooper Ss I had (1071cc then 1275cc) and also the red 20v quattro turbo, my old BDA engined Lotus 7 S3 was /is my favourite
The noise it made at 9000 revs was just magic
See it ( or rather hear it ) here:-

Love the Cortina, my grandad had one but I sadly never got to see it as way before my time. Any pics?Originally Posted by london lad
Favourite has to be the Porsche 996 C4S I had a few years ago as I'd wanted one since I was a kid. Also loved the Mini Cooper.
For me my Merc SL, which I have had for 3 years now.
For my wife her Audi TT convertible (she is on her second of those).
Tough choice I've quite a few "nice" cars, but the best has to be an Alfa Romeo 145 cloverleaf, small fast hatch and sooo much fun!
I have had a lot of wonderful cars and it would be a toss up between my Alfa GTV 3.2 Cup or my M Coupe.
When I worked, the GTV was awesome, just like my very own Ferrari, but I think the M has to have it. Real supercharge performance and a real assault on all the senses.
My current ride and I are still bonding, and whilst I love my Porsche, it won't ever look or sound anywhere near as good as the M.
Probably Exige for overall fun but still miss my TVR and Westfield
It would have to be the current one, a CL63 AMG
It just does everything you want from a car & more
When I split up with my long tern squeeze about 15 years ago I was determined to restart every aspect of my life and one of the things I did was burn all my photos. I have regretted that a few times since!Originally Posted by NickMSM
It was a bog standard cream with green stripe Mk1. It was a 66 so had leaf springs rather than A frame. The body and interior was as new but the engine had blown a head gasket and the previous owner had bitten off more than he could chew in trying a rebuild. I think I caught him just when he had been offered a Healey 3000 that he wanted and I scooped up the Lotus with engine in bits at a bargain price.
The engine was basically a Ford steel 4 cylinder block with an aluminium Lotus twin cam head and two big twin choke Webber carbs. The induction noise sounded amazing :-) It seemed really fast at the time and outperformed anything my friends had but in reality any modern hot hatch would be far quicker today.
My last car did everything so well.
Effortless milemuncher.
Good for work and good for play.
Range Rover 4.4 V8 on LPG
My old MKII Escort........got me all over the place many, many years ago fairly reliably and cheaply, and when it did break down then it was basic enough that even i (a mechanical failure) could get it running again with judicious use of a large screwdriver,a crow bar,a hammer and lots of swearing.
Failing that it was cheap when it went to a garage :D
(And if i squinted a lot and made all the right sounds i could sometimes pretend i was in a Mexico  )
My beloved Zed...
Got to be my S reg Boxster before the kids came along and ruined it all! Post kids, my XC90. Had 2 of those out of the 4 cars post children.
well I've ben lucky and had some crackers, but I keep coming back to my MK2 escort Mexico rs- signal yellow, black vinyl roof......
one of the few cars I've driven, after the 2,1 conversion, twin 45mm dell'orto carbs, and sachs suspension where you really felt like you knew exactly where each wheel was....
saying that.....the Cayman ain't bad :P
Goat
The GT3 is the best car I've owned, but I'll always have a soft spot for the car it replaced

God, a Suzuki Cappuccino! I so wanted one of those. Unfortunately I can only run one car and it needs to be reasonably practical, so...Originally Posted by wampa
Did you ever try a Honda Beat? Similar type of car (Kei-car I thin the Japanese term is).
Wanted a Beat for ages but good ones were always outside my price range for a weekend car.
Then a guy in Cornwall I knew who shoe-horned VR6 engines into vintage Jettas got hold of a Japenese imported Cappucinno, re-restricted, with a big bike exhaust on it:
I loved it & bought it, loved all the popping and burbling from the bike exhaust and de-restricted, the speedo needle went all the way round, but the dreaded rust got the better of it, so got the red one, official UK model, just over 1000 were officially modified & imported for UK:
Love it, specially now the Japanese N1 is in, no boost limiter or rev limiter :)
This one for me.
bet it sounded awesomeOriginally Posted by BondandBigM

Although not the quickest i've owned but for the fun factor it's class.
Here's a picture along with my old Fiesta Si, the car is the Daihatsu Charade GTTI i had it uprated to around 140bhp which is not bad for a 3 cylinder 993cc 12v turbo.
Not owned 'yet'. I'm on the hunt for a Saab 900 turbo as a project car. I've always loved them and remember first seeing it on The Paradise Club. Showing my age a bit but boy are they sweet.
1987 Golf GTi MK2 - my longest-owned car at seven years. Saw me through uni, my first true love, my only ever speeding ticket, etc :P
Group13, doesn't work out too bad, it's good on fuel but servicing/parts are really expensiveOriginally Posted by Grandiloquence
Fiat Coupe Turbo, definitely my favourite.
I loved the sound it made and the lumpy spoonfuls of power from the dinner plate sized turbo.
Mine was my Golf MK4 R32.
Lovely exhaust tone from standard nice standard spec too.
Without a doubt my mx5 mk2 1.6, closely followed by a pug 205 GTi 1.6.
I still lust after a mx5, however with 2 kids its going to have to be a 4 seater, so the Fiat 500 does for now.
