Date. Even though mine are rarely right
We all like watches with a complication or two, provided that the dial face is legible. What, in your opinion, is the most useful complication or complications one can have on a watch?
Date. Even though mine are rarely right
Date. no question.
Yep, definitely the date. Followed closely by a second (GMT) timezone.
I agree. So why does the IWC Portugese chronograph not have one! Off my shopping list now. :!:
Date for me too.
Espresso dispenser.
Then date.
Date followed by chronograph central minute hand (in the style of Lemania 5100).
Moon phase..........howwwooooooool.
Not really. Date for me too.
Date and power reserve.
Date.
date, timing bezel, gmt hand, chrono :)

Bi-directional minutes bezel.
Date, followed by gmt and chronograph for me
Date > chronograph > day-month > GMT hand > power reserve
Another vote for date...
I always end up looking at my watch when I need to check the date, in particular at work, and i find it a little frustrating when there isn't one!
Really like the day date on Rolex or Tudors, not that you really the need the day frankly it but I think it looks nice!
Date, by a long way.
Date, but alarm a close second rare on mechanical watches though :x
I can't argue with this.Originally Posted by LouS

Personally i'm happy with a date and at times GMT.....But forget useful, some get as many in as possible....36?!
It does depend upon your circumstances but personally i would say GMT hand once you've correctly set the hour markers of the bezel.

Like many others, the date first, then: chrono, power reserve, GMT. I also prefer my watches have a unidirectional bezel...though not sure that is a complication as such.
Date and GMT. I can not get by without the date, for some reason I just can not remember it! It's good to have GMT as well for phoning people in the uk, the difference is either 11, 12 or 13 hours so it's never that hard to work out but it's even easier just to look at your watch :)
In this order date, day, gmt.

Since getting the daytona I've realised how often I do look at my watch to get the date... That said I'm not that bothered I don't have it as I just look on my phone instead.
Always liked the GMT and Chrono functionality and intrigued by an annual calendar as per the sky dweller... Even if the dial does look a mess!
Definatly date,
I neven know which date it is when I'm wearing my Vostok, very annoying :P
None.
I prefer non date watches with a clean dial.
I do however like chronographs because of how they look. :D
Cheese grater, date. Without the cheese grater.
I'll get my coat.
The time.
Then the date.

Date, day and power reserve.
Date > Day Date
The day/date is problably the most useful complication I have, although I do use the chronograph a lot day to day.
I don't like date or, especially, day indicators on automatics or handwinds as I don't like setting them each time I put the watch on and I don't really need them. Like having a date on quartz watches though.
For me the most useful thing, by far, is a rotating bezel. It's not really a complication but I use it all the time. For me it's better than a chronograph as I rarely need to time anything to more than a minute's accuracy and it leaves a much cleaner dial.
Timing bezel, then date
Exactly, though the bezel is a feature, not a complicationOriginally Posted by Henrik Gelardi
Quick-set hour hand, for travel. I have a day/date chrono (Lemania 5100) and a no date chrono (Speedy Pro), and love them both. But the feature that I really value is the quick-set hour hand on my SMP 2264.
I have few chornographs but find the only use is to time how quickly I can get to the pub! :(
It looks like it must be the date then, however i've just traded my sub for an explorer so i no longer have a mechanical watch with a day complication guess i'll just have to use my phone
However, if you want to add a bezel yourself, you'll find it's quite complicated......Originally Posted by helidoc
As mentioned by most: date > power reserve or chronograph.

i must admit, i'm liking the cleaner non-date look, especially on vintage. this is rapidly becoming my daily wearer

As others have stated, Date and GMT as I travel quite a lot and it is easy to lose track. I also prefer that complication to be housed in a case with a count-down bezel. Since the bezel is a feature of the case, I'll also add the other important features to me: decent (reasonable) water resistance and sapphire crystal as there is quite a lot to knock into with frequent air travel.
One nice option is the Steinhart BlackSea, although as a L.E., they are a bit of a challenge to find.
Here's a quick photo - sorry for the glare
Date -> Alarm -> 24hr indicator
I must buy another watch with an alarm; I had a GP Traveller II and I really miss that feature.
On the other hand, I've really cooled on chronos - both my WTBs at the moment are for the non-chrono version of a watch - and I can't bear GMT hands: I find they make it harder to read the time with a microsecond glance.
For me date is the obvious one, but hacking seconds is a must. That must count as a complication?
