Thread: Tudor Black Bay

    Re: Tudor Black Bay

Just read over on Hodinkee that the price of the Black bay has been confirmed at about £2300 ish at todays exchange rate. If it isn't available until later this year that's good news for me as I'm going to get saving.

Did someone say these can be special ordered through Rolex ADs in the UK, or is a trip to the continent the only way to get a non-grey one?

So I understand. Rolex UK HQ in St.James can certainly get them.

If you look at the Tudor website, Rolex St.James is actually listed as an AD (the only one in the UK).

My Rolex AD has said they are only available in Europe outside of UK. I have spoken to dealers in Germany and Switzerland this morning and they are all saying October for stock. There is not a hope in hell I can wait that long and not spend the cash. Surely there are a stack of these sat in a warehouse somewhere waiting to be sold.

Get the train to Paris or Brussels early and you'd be back in time for a late lunch - or make a weekend of it. Never done it but I suspect that would be a great way to buy a watch.

Edit: There's an AD listed in Lille, which is just over an hour away, although I didn't spot Tudor on their website.

I think the Tudor looks great- other than that fat odd shape on the hour hand.....

I've become somewhat infatuated with this watch, I'd better start saving my pennies! I really do prefer it on the leather, those wrist shots from hodinkee sealed it for me.

If I get it, it will be on a steel bracelet. My guess is that, as usual, you will need to pay a premium for a seperate bracelet and the leather strap will be a lot cheaper.

    Re: Tudor Black Bay

Looks awesome, really like the aged strap and if the rumoured prices are accurate then I'll definitely pick one up. Checked with my AD in Wellington and they said

"I have emailed Tudor and price details along with when the actual watch will be available in stores is still being finalised. We should have this information in about a month. We can contact you then."

So how come people are quoting prices when Tudor aren't saying? Or is it all just speculation?

  17. #117

    Re: Tudor Black Bay

The prices people are quoting is from a variety of sources on line that have stated prices, but i rather wait until my AD confirms.

  18. #118

    Re: Tudor Black Bay

The prices people are quoting online are Euro prices from Basel so most of the £ prices are assumptions based on that. Personally I hope it's as close to £2k as possible or less!

As I have 6 months of planning to do before I can get my hands on one, I wondered if anyone had a reliable Euro Tudor dealer they could recommend, particularly one with easy flight access from the NW airports? There must be a group of TZers that did this when the Heritage Chrono was released.

On steel bracelet about £2250 at current exchange rates, now that is a cracking price.

Lovely looking watch at first glance - although obviously highly 'retro'. Hopefully that won't grate after a while. I'm interested.

I'll be very tempted when it gets released. Around £2k on the leather doesn't seem too expensive in comparison to the pricing of the "big brands" at the moment.

I've a 5513 on bracelet and a blue Tudor lollipop on NATO, so a red sub on distressed leather is just the ticket.

That is one good looking watch 8) the Tudor rose on the crown is stunning, if only it didn't have that red band round the crown tube it really would be perfect.

I've seen better quality handsets in some of the gallery divers coming out of China. In fact, I prefer some of the gallery divers coming out of China. 8)

    I disagree John.

Clearly not designed by a committee else they would have given us yet another black bezel sub clone.

I like the fact that some of the deign features are a little controversial and split opinions, like the red bezel, red crown ring, no crown guards, crown engraving and snowflake hands with dot markers.

And generally I would agree with you ref subs on leather, but for me, this works. The distressed brown leather links well with the red and gives it a real tool look.

I like the irony that it's supposed to be a homage to the 1954 original - but looks nothing like it.
Wrong size crown / red bezel / dial script different / wrong hands

It's totally illogical, and doesn't make sense to anyone (but the marketing people).

Like I said - it's a total nonsense to everyone except the marketing people.

    Hodinkee know though :D

"So they began with the very first Tudor Submariner, the Reference 7922, of 1954. This watch, as pictured above, featured pencils hands for the very first year or two of its life, and then quickly changed to Mercedes hands until the mid-to late 60s. The 7922 featured an 8mm "Big Crown" as the Rolexes did of the time, and it is here that Tudor began the conception of the Black Bay in terms of the dial, crown, and overall styling.

Then, they jumped into 1967, the year that Reference 7021 was introduced - or the "Snowflake Submariner." The Snowflake Subs are, to this day, one of the vintage Rolex community's favorite pieces because they are just a tremendous value for the money. The super early Tudor Subs like the 1950s 7922s are not inexpensive watches, at all, but Snowflakes can still be had for well under $5000, unless they are Marine National issued pieces. But, from the 7021, Tudor borrowed the snowflake hands and bezel stylings - though the matte burgundy color was chosen based on some museum Tudor Subs whose bezel had turned to this rich color, which we believe to be unique to the Tudor Subs. It is interesting to note that from now on, all Tudor dive watches will used Snowflakes hands, as seen on the Pelagos.

So, the new Tudor Black Bay is not a tribute to one vintage dive watch or another, but it is everything that made Tudor dive watches special over the past 60 years. It features a domed crystal, "chocolate" dial with gilt lettering, pink gold hands and lume plots and a water resistance of 200 meters. It is 41mm in size and just over 10mm thick."
