Golf pays well. :)
After 8 months of doing The Lottery via direct debit and winning the princely sum of BUGGER ALL I've finally seen the light and resigned myself to the realisation that it's a bloody con.
What other alternatives are there to put a quid a week on and HOPE for some worthwhile win? I understand there's nowt to beat the Lottery jackpot ( more chance of guessing a random person's telephone number) but £20,000 would be nice. :D
Premium bonds can only be bought for £100 minimum investment, but at least you get the option of your money back. But the payout isn't very good.

It's just a matter of time...
PSB payout is not bad, with chance of a 'biggie' and at least better than B- all!!
i gave up doing football pools some years ago, does anyone still do them?
If you have an account with Halifax, you will be entered into a draw automatically every month, just a thought?
Could try the irish lottery, think it has fewer numbers! :P
Nothing.
It's all gambling with the odds stacked in the houses favour, and the lottery is probably one of the worst payout ratios out there. To be fair, part of your money goes to charity so you have to discount that, but even taking that out the pot, the payout is very poor.
Matching 3 numbers gets you £10, but with odds of 57:1 that can hardly be considered a good payout. Of course there are chances of winning a higher prize, but they rapidly become unlikely, with 4 numbers being over 1000:1
If you put the same numbers on each week from birth till death, and every week produced a different result, you should win the jackpot once in every 3386 lifetimes! Saying that, my mums cleaner won over £1m a few years ago :)
If you really want to gamble, your better of playing blackjack, but of course the instant high win isn't there. For that, I would say sticking a 6 way accumulator on the footie at the weekend would provide a much better payout/chance.
i prefer watch gambling, if i lose, i still win... kind of....
You can't do the Irish Lottery unless you live in Ireland. You are NOT doing the Irish Lottery over here. You are betting on the numbers at the bookies. And the winnings are according to their odds NOT the Irish Lottery rules.Originally Posted by dja21
The likelihood of winning anything significant (ie life-changing) on any gamble is very slim.
Premium Bonds are the safest gamble because you don`t lose your money, but the payout ratio isn't great.
Best advice about ALL gambling is this: Forget it.

Yep, never met a poor bookie!Originally Posted by ghosty

I had £3 of Premium Bonds since 1968 and won. again bugger all.
Last year I bought £3000 worth and won £65.
According to the Irish Lotto website....."The Irish Lottery game can be played by anyone of legal age regardless of their geographical location."Originally Posted by vRSG60
Lottery 'hotpicks' is pretty good. Instead of a lucky dip on a Saturday I do one of those now.
Uses the same lottery draw, but you choose how many numbers you want to play. If you choose one number and it comes up in the draw you win a fiver back. Choose two numbers (I do mine and my wifes birthdays) and you win about £50 if they both come up. We've won a few times now doing that and like you, I can count the tenners we won before that in the last 6 or 7 years on one hand.
I stand corrected  although as I say if you play at the bookies you are not actually doing the Irish lottery.Originally Posted by Gilly
If you are going to throw money away gambling the footy is far more fun. You will never win a life changer, but the odds are stacked less against you and there is an element of skill.
The SCOOP 6 horse racing bet on Saturday is a great bet.
You try to pick 6 winners on the specified races on a saturday - if all your horses win Kaboom a good pay out.
However - even if they are placed, you get a good payout.
Last week it paid about £430k if i recall - it rolls over if not won, and picking a "form" pick in races that sometimes only contain 8-10 runners is better and far more fun IMO.
If you DO hit the big one, then you get to crack at the following week bonus race - that will normally add about another £100k or so if you get it.
I play the horses regularly, and have had 5 of 6 before and a couple of place payouts - great fun, and only £2.
Its a pool bet - so with rollovers and media racing coverage - the pot gets v big.
JUst ask in your local bookies - they will give you the ticket and show you which races.
The bet was won last week with ONE single £2 ticket - no permutation or syndicate. Lucky blighter - i had his last leg of the bet as my banker - i had it at 5-1, it went off 5-2..... the guy must have almost passed out as it looked beaten with one to jump, but came back from the dead to get up on the line.
All good fun - for small beer layout - premium bonds are a great idea, but a tad boring - unless you win of course!
What's the difference between playing the lottery and playing the fool? They both make you look foolish, but at least you can do one of them for free...
You should really try playing The Football Pools. Great payouts, made multiple millionaire in the past few years and often pays out far better than what a lot of sportsbook companies would pay out on their Super 6 game! Lots of new and exciting games. http://bit.ly/pXi6Wc
