Your considering tradeing those three plus cash for another line of text?? :?

OK, my DRSD obsession continues...
This week's question is: would you trade-in these three watches plus probably a little cash, for a DRSD, (Mk IV dial, full set, good condition). IOW, do you prefer a bit of diversity or one mega-grail watch?
16622
5513
and 1680 red (this one might hurt)

Trade 'em 8) personally, not to keen on the YM and with the DRSD you get the best bit of those 2 vintage subs (ie no cyclops and red writing) plus a bit of SD chunkiness
Easy for me to say though....
Yes, I'd trade them - less is more.
It's just a matter of time...

THIN is the new BLACK
My thoughts exactly but if you feel you'll wear the DRSD more than these 3 watches alone then it's probably worth itOriginally Posted by dreamboat10

I wouldn't do it. I love all three of the watches you're considering trading. The Rolex red sub is a stunner, I really like the looks of the YM (so much I'm considering this or the Rolex GMT2LN as my next purchase), and the ND is a classic. No!
i wouldn't trade - simply because the DRSD wouldn't be worth it *to me*. i know it's rarer etc than other SDs, but i'd be just as happy with a 16600.
love the YM too BTW 8)
You guys are a tough crowd. Looks like I'm going to have to save up for the bloody thing! Thanks for all comments.
Trade them in i've done it loads of times
I wouldn't trade those three, YM isn't so much for me but those other two are just fabulous. Then of course DRSD isn't my grail..
Trade, trade, trade, you know you want to.
I would hold onto the 3 you've got personally. But as others have said the DRSD isn't a grail for me.
The fact I'm after a Project X sub should be enough to convince anyone I'm not to be trusted on Rolex matters anyway
id much prefer to keep the three you have and the cash... *slight edit* it does abit for me... but not enough to swap 3 for 1.
x3 Diversity over monotony. Familiarity will breed contempt (or, if not that, at least a little restlessness) after a while. Although the DRSD would be nice ...Originally Posted by SPEEDY

Wouldn't contemplate trading, I just don't see the attraction of that SD. The YM is a bit of a marmite choice, and if one was for the chop it would probably be that, although fundamentally I quite like them.
Personally I wouldn't trade. Keep those 3.
regards,
Nick
If it is your grail, I think you know the answer already.
Would I do it personally? Probably not but then I've not owned the three in question before and two of them are on my list to try.
Best answer :)Originally Posted by gray

No regrets there :)
Sell the YM and buy a 1665 instead. At least you will only need to find an additional £5-6K.
Trade them you only live once 8)
Damian
Trade 2 of them and sell me your Red Sub please
“Don’t look back, you’re not heading that way.”
Trade away...clearly this is a watch you covet, at least by trading 3 in, the new incoming would be guaranteed some wrist time! Happy to help!
If your already asking yourself this question, then in my opinion you already know.
Easy for the reast of us to say but go for it.
I think you need to keep those, if it were I would not do it, no way.
You took the words out of my mouth squire.Originally Posted by Chinnock

This is what I would do in your position, then if u want a drsd, you flip the 1665, bit cheaper in the first place!Originally Posted by holmefield

If its one you have always wanted then go for it otherwise you will always wish you had.
Can you afford at a later date to replace the other 3 if the answer is yes ( you are a lucky sod ) then trade away
Chris
If you did trade them, would you wear the sea dweller or would you keep it safe? If its going to get used then do it but don't trade 3 watches you can use (that are all as good as the drsd) for one you won't.
How many watches can you wear at a time? There is your answer...
Now that's just a silly comment. ;-)Originally Posted by Josh B

(edited for ipad autocorrect silliness!)
I saw a DRSD a while back and thought it was the most beautiful watch I'd ever seen (and I'e never owned a Rolex). The Red 1680 is very nice - a sort of poor rich man's DRSD. I wouldn't want the YM and the alternative would be to keep the 1680 or Sub and trade the YM for a chrono of some sort; but if dive watches are your thing, the DRSD is THE Grail.
I'd say, like Nike, "Just Do It" (so long as you promise to wear it like an everyday piece, no just tuck it up in a safe).
Although I can appreciate the aestherics of vintage stuff, I can't get my head around paying megabucks for the rarer stuff - however this WIS game is not really very logical, and as with your PP question last week, only you really know the relative priorities.
To get more context, what else is in your current collection?
Recon you might regret that trade - the diversity is nice, and you may feel a bit empty with the mega-grail on your arm and an empty watch case....
Nice pics, btw.
Cheers,
Henrik
I have a JLC Reserve de Marche in steel and another PP, the 5712/1A.Originally Posted by robcat

I would trade em for the DRSD.
I certainly looks like you value quality over quantity as you've got some cracking watches there - so I can see why you might want to swap a few for a grail.Originally Posted by TheDude
Although I quite like the Yachtmaster, I think it is the (relative) weak-spot in you collection, but TBH you've got some great watches so that's being picky.
Unless you really want to "collect" vintage Rolex, I would be tempted to say sell all three and go for the DRSD, as it would make the other Sub's redundant. Personally I don't think the DR is worth the extra over it's cheaper cousins though. The you may have some cash left for something else!!
On the other hand, if a DRSD is a long-term grail that will gnaw away at you in the long run, you might be best biting the bullet and going for it. (I presume a DRSD will hold it's value reasonable well if you find you've scratched the itch?).
I like the three you have there but they have obviously palled a bit to you ........and a change is as good as a rest.
Cheers,
Neil.
Thanks, and I agree the YM isn't the best. I forgot to say I've also got a P serial 16610 which is my default (beater?) watch. And a 1970s Tissot Seastar, which was a gift on my 14th birthday.Originally Posted by robcat
I'm coming round to the idea of ditching the YM in favour of a vanilla 1665.
It really depends on how much you desire the DRSD...if it is your dream watch then I'd say go for it. Personally, I would not trade those specific watches for a DRSD, but I would for a 6538. You have some beautiful watches anyway, and the DRSD would be a great addition, especially if you can find one in great condition.
Keep them, you have 2 stunning classic subs and Rolex dress watch.
