Rolex Milgauss GV for me
Do you think as an investment that they will achieve a good return over say 10 years, compared to say the 16600 rare Swiss dial I've bought??Originally Posted by azz71

Bloody Numbers....... Mines a Mint 16600 Swiss Dial that YOU covert.......
Wish we could just call it a SeaDweller Rare Swiss Dial....
i would buy a breitling bentley mark iv 19 complications
Just call it your SD and we will know which it is - I'll call it a "Swiss Only SD" to narrow it down. & yes I'd like to add one ;) , one day but the others are keeping me happy for now.Originally Posted by Yorkshiremadmick

I'd try and find a 18ct date just or president. 1979. Probably without bracelet.
I bought my first "good" watch in 1982 - A new GMT-Master for the princely sum of £208. Even allowing for the servicing (and the brand new bracelet for £17 courtesy of Rolex - well out of warranty) - that watch has been the "cheapest" watch I have owned.
A reasonable return on investment? I think so.
I'd like to think that any popular second-hand Rolex, in good condition - can provide enjoyment, and a decent return in the long-term.
Al
I'd be taking the platinum bezel to the gold shop for a valuation :twisted:Originally Posted by taz11

my gorgeous SeaDweller rare "Swiss" dial model HAS not been off my wrist other than to dwell in, beer, cider or wine. I love it, shes even been camping to Gods own country.
For £5k I would be all over the Grand Seiko GMT Spring Drive and Linde Werdelin on SC
A fine choice Mick, I think the Seadweller is the finest of the Rolex models (the old SD not the grotesque DSSD).
Think I would go for a vintage Explorer I and a Seamaster 120m 'Mayol'. Might even have change for a new guitar!
I'd go for a Seiko MM600 and an Omega Speedmaster Pro, both used.
I'm off to Spain next week and am hoping to find a Tudor Pelagos to try. Assuming that works out I'd be looking at an old Speedy with the balance of the cash.
How about a Yachtmaster? I've just traded for one, and its a lovely piece of kit. Not that common (3 other dads a rugby tots on sat morning are wearing subbys) and I just love the grey dial. (Which is. Nice surprise). I think 5k is a bit high for one, although if its almost unworn with service recently etc its probably almost reasonable.
It's still in production, so will it rise in value? At 5k when 7850 is the new price probably not, but if you can get one owing you a little less I think its a good investment. And the local bricky isn't wearing one down the pub!
Top suggestion. As it happens, I have one available right now.
For me right now it would be one of these:
I had the same choice last month, after looking at several options this 298 was the clear winner.
A vintage Rolex Submariner 5513 ideally from my year of birth.
I'd get a Rolex Day-date on bracelet, not impossible to find good ones around the 5k mark.
I think gold price will continue to go up and its an iconic watch. This Sub/Sea-Dweller hype has to die down a bit at some point imho and prices will stagnate.
After 15 years of chasing and flipping and spending a kings ransom on watches there is nothing new or I have not owned that interests me at this price point.
I have no appetite to go higher and currently have an old Seiko (away for service) and a G Shock - life is good!.
When you look long into an abyss, the abyss looks long into you.........
IWC 5001, after this one only the Seiko moon walker.
New bathroom.
I would probably buy Glasshütte Original Senator Sixties Square Chronograph. It's personal looking and beautiful.
But in real life I could spend the money in three cheaper watches like Doxa 1200T Professional, Junghans Max Bill Chronoscope and Longines Legend Diver.

Second hand DSSD, or 20,000 feet and a holiday......
I dont think there is anything at around 5k I would want. I could probably find a few things for 2k though, and have a pot of cash left for servicing ;-)
I wouldn't say nobody Mick! I noticed it! All joking aside and I know this is an old thread I'm getting the itch for a birthday watch and with a few quid that's steadily been building up I may be reading back through to get some ideas! I've been looking at getting another Pam 111 painted face. The back is as pretty as the front. An LV sub new or old, a Milgaus another Glashutte or of course A Seadweller, I like the marmite DSSD but I don't know if I could live with it? All debatable early days yet but an interesting thread none the less.

A gently used Patek Philippe Aquanaut quartz 5064A-001.
I would probably buy one of these?
