Congrats.
I really like that case shape and the size of it.
Now get it blasted!
I decided to try a Vostok after reading the recent best inexpensive watch thread. Lots available on ebay and I ended up going for this manual winding gold tone Komandirskie purely due to its retro look. Arrived today and although the quality is obviously not up there with the Swiss brands you do actually get a fairly decent watch for under £40 delivered. Only had it on for two hours but, so far, time keeping seems almost spot on. Only issue is severe crown wobble which meant it took forever to set the time and wind up, but according to the English translated instructions this is normal for Vostok and for that kind of money I'm not complaining.
Congrats.

Retrotastic!!....I really like that.
My Vostok has awful crown wobble too if that makes you feel any better.
Fairly wide lugs - what is the lug size?
Always good to see a nice Vostok on the forum.
regards,
Nick
Lug width is 20mm, agree it does look bigger in the photos.Originally Posted by WatchScout
I was not being clear.
I meant that the lugs themselves are wide (because the case flows seamlessly into the lugs) - not necessarily the space between them.
Thanks for info.
Apologies, width of the lugs at their widest is 32mm and 25mm at their narrowist. Watch measures around 40mm excluding crown and around 45mm from top to bottom including lugs. I hope that makes sense.Originally Posted by WatchScout
Guys, it is not 'awful' or 'severe' crown wobble. The watch is designed that way. I read a very interesting article about the way Vostok approached the design of the Amphibia and I think the Komandirskie has the same movement. I will try to find a link and post it later...
Here is the link to the watchuseek article I mentioned...

Many thanks for that, most interesting.Originally Posted by earlsy

Great value for money, and oh so retro. :)

I'd hate to be with you when you're on your own.
Thanks for the link....I'm feeling a lot better about my wobble now!Originally Posted by earlsy
Great article that really brings out the unique design brilliance of the Amphibia. I probably wear my "Scuba Dude" more than any other watch - in part because it has such an interesting concept and in part because at the price accidents and damage cease to be a concern.Originally Posted by earlsy
It's got to be one of the top inexpensive watches of all time.
A quick update, I have now worn the Vostok for three days straight, which is most unlike me. I've switched to a nato which is a vast improvement on the rather shoddy leather strap, and now that I've sussed the crown winding is a breeze. Most impressively, this watch has lost less than ten seconds in three days. Chronometer grade timekeeping in a manual wind watch for less that £40, maybe we've got this obsession with expensive Swiss made watches all wrong.
