Are these people the same people who wonder why some people like black-faced watches? :lol:Originally Posted by Sweepinghand
It's preference, plain and simple. Some people like both; perhaps that bloke had a Speedipro at home as well.
There i was watching (the watches on peoples wrists) my own business when visiting a client today.
A smartly dressed young guy was sat playing on his iphone and i caught sight of his Daytona......
Now then - the debate for me - or statement is this.....
Why do people like white faced watches? IMO black face wins every time - don't know how to set up a poll but black v white - any watch - what's your pref?

...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!
Hmmm, black or white? Which do you prefer?
Both.Originally Posted by Sweepinghand

When it comes to dress watches as well, white dial > black dial.
Black Face Daytona is the nicer one. White is too feminine, a ladies watch if you will.
I'm not a fan of the modern Daytona's but if I were to buy one it would be the white version. I generally prefer watches with a black dial but where the Daytona is concerned I would only ever choose White.
I like and own both black & white faced watches...
I also like orange & yellow too :D
Marmite is nasty though
The white face is quite feminine looking - thats what i was thinking...... FIGHT!
I have both and wear them as the mood takes me.
F.T.F.A.
Variety is the spice of life. It's a cliche cos it's true.
Referring specifically to your daytona example, the white dial kicks the black dial's ass and the chap you spotted sporting one had impeccable taste.
Oranged face Daytona wins for me.
Come on, there must be one somewhere when you consider all those tiger and zebra striped models with and without diamond, ruby, emerald and sapphire additions that Rolex have knocked out for various markets and consumers around the world.
Having had a black Daytona which only stayed 3 months, I wished I had bought a white one :wink:Originally Posted by cmcm3

Most of my watches are black dialled, but I do like a nice white dial for a dress watch.
regards,
Nick
I've had both though not at the same time. I found the black to be much more versatile and more of a sports Rolex whereas I was only comfortable with the white when wearing a shirt.
All a matter of personal taste though.
black for meOriginally Posted by Sweepinghand
Gave white-faced one to my wife recently..think it looks better on her than me. Lovely watch but I don't 'miss' wearing it as such.
Black-faced one a bit more masculine imo (more sporty than elegant) and an unmistakable look to it..you can almost notice it from the other side of the room versus any other tri-compax dial.
I generally find myself wanting whichever I haven't currently got.Originally Posted by adam164

Isn't white just the 'in' colour at the moment?
Look at all the white cars on the road.
I find that White faced watches always want to divide and rule

why do you like black face then?!?
Maybe that young dude was wondering about the same thing?
(why be so boring? Do you only wear one colour of clothing and eat one type of food?)
White face for me, it is much more distinctive looking
For most watches I'm in the black face camp. However for some (Daytona, Explorer II, IWC Portuguese) I think white is the better option. If I had one watch only, it would definitely be black face.
I've got black faced, silver faced, yellow faced and white faced. I like them all but must admit I wear black faced the most.
I like both personally, although I'd lean towards white for a dress watch. My every day wearer is an Omega Seamaster with a blue face though so perhaps I shouldn't chip into this discussion...
Have only one white dial watch, a seiko helmet, not a woman's model...
I'd go black as it's more versatile but I'd pick white face if i only got it for a day... If that makes sense.
I prefer White on a Daytona.
But I war White, black, blue and silver faced watches. Different colours suit different watches, and ultimately it's all just personnal preference.
Interested to see a few people saying the black dial is more versatile. I can't really think of an instance where a white Daytona would look out of place, other than with a Tux or something, when the black one would also be unsuitable. Goes with a suit, goes with jeans, you're not going to be wearing either to do the gardening unless you're a mad man. :?
All of my watches are black dials at the minute.
I've never owned a watch with a white dial.
Always preferred white dial Daytona as most other sports Rolex only come with black dials. And I've already or a GMTII and don't have a white dial watch. That said if I ever got rid of my GMTII I'd be more open to a black dial Daytona...
The only black dial one I would conside is the older one with white sub dials - bu they start at about £20k :(
There aren't many White dial watches that I like but the Daytona certainly is one of them.
Is white the new black?
I have both black and white dialed watches. The main thing (at my age) is there should be good contrast between the face and the hands. My datejust had silver dial and silver hands! It now has a black dial.
Kind regards
Dave

Black for me. But some other watches, including sporty ones, I prefer white. I know, amazing.
