Thread: Your favourite Comedian.

  1. #1

    Your favourite Comedian.

I've got a fairly large collection of Comedians doing their thing, concert or small gigs, whatever.

Bill Hicks, Kinnerson, Chris Rock, Pryor, Chappelle, Louis CK, Izzard, Greg Giraldo, Big Yin, so many more.

My favourite is David Cross, just shades out Geroge Carlin for me.

Least favourite (recent memory at least) Jason Mamford, just awful.

Your favourites? Apart from Cameron, Clegg, Clarkson etc.

(Moved from incorrect section, my bad).

Love a good laugh and the biggest ones from memory for stand up are from the likes of Skinner, Evans, Connolly, Murphy, Pryor, Kay and Chris Rock.

Difficult to pick a winner but some of Skinners old routines have had me hurting uncontrollably

    George Carlin... easily.

He was the most intelligent and though-provoking comedian I have ever seen. Brilliant.

    Quite wide tastes:

Rhod Gilbert, Billy Connolly, Lee Evens, Dave Allen, Peter Cook, Tony Hancock, Peter Kay, Spike Milligan, Bill Hicks, Jack Dee, Louis C.K., Chris Rock, Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, George Carlin, Jeff Dunham, Steve Martin, Robin Williams.

    Can't stand Stewart Lee.

    Re: Your favourite Comedian.

Peter Kay, jimmy Carr, and that Geordie woman.......... Sarah millican, I know she does a lot of men jokes but I feel she has a really honest way of telling her stories that makes it all the funnier, and she laughs at herself which in turn makes me laugh.

Oh and that Geordie guy that's always on HIGNFY.

Oh and I know it's not a comedian but every Christmas I always pick up the viz annual in WH Smith and have a chuckle. Maybe a little crass but who cares, right?

This may classify more as pure talent, but it is done so by the best comedian, ever, IMO.

    Stewart Lee.

Laughed until it hurt, when listening to the below take on Top Gear.

I was not aware of him, until someone here recently drew my attention to him in a similar thread.

I have seen/listened to a few of his stand-up vids on youtube and find him very funny.

Especially his take on top gear here. Listen to all of it, it is very funny, but his description of Hammond "The Hamster" is spot on!!!! So much in fact, that I have not been able to look at The Hamster the same way, when ever I am watching Top Gear since listening to Stewart Lee.

The Hamster is a small sycophant, just as Stewart Lee claims. And for the record, I like Top Gear

Lee's take on Hammond 06:45 min in:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0i0RXMv ... re=related

What is the general opinion of Stewart Lee amongst the forum members here?

I ask, beacause I have not listened to him until recently and did not know (of) him.

Emo Phillips, Demetri Martin, Zach Galifianakis, Jason Byrne, Maeve Higgins, Daniel Kitson and David O'Doherty all stand out from recent years. Jerry Seinfeld is here in May though, and hopefully he'll top them all.

Three pages of posts about favourite comedians and only one mention of the late, great Spike Milligan thus far

Of the current crop, I find Bill Bailey very amusing.

    currently maybe Rhod Gilbert

Stewart went to the same school as Richard Hammond, although he was a couple of years about the Hamster.

Mate, you want to see the sketch where he explains why Braveheart's crap and why William Wallace is a paedo at a gig in Scotland.

For the record I'm also a fan of Marcus Brigstock and Boothby Graffoe.

Most of the above, though I suppose Billy Connolly merits a special mention.

The Frankie Boyle of his day -his double live album was irreverent, funny ...... and dead cheap in Scotland in the early 70s

    A guaranteed hit!

    Bill Bailey. What a talent!

How he can be so clever, funny and at the same time play a variety of instruments, is incredible.
