Me too; unless it was a double-domed sapphire of a similar profile (i.e. expensive), personally I think it would make it a far less appealing watch.

Well on the subject of my photography, one of the forum did advise me to "leave it to the professionals" (although personally, I'm happy to continue as a bumbling amateur).

I don't think I've ever seen Bodie or Doyle with a camera and I'm currently following the re-runs on ITV4.

A first class review as ever Ewan, however I can honestly say that this time it didn't make me go out and buy one. Only because I already have no.156 to sit alongside PRS-1 #156.

I once met Martin Shaw (Doyle) at an airshow. I was one of the appointed media sheepdogs (pissed-off aircrew) that day and we were briefed in no uncertain terms by the chief luvvie-fluffer (accompanied by a vigorously nodding swivel-eyed senior admin officer) to never under any circumstances whatsoever mention that programme whilst anywhere near him.

    Obviously we all did.

    At every possible opportunity.

And we enhanced the effect by doing combat rolls through doorways.

    Excellent.

I remember reading that the Professionals wasn't repeated for years because he vetoed reruns.

You'd think he'd be more embarassed by stuff like Judge John Deed!

Great review... particularly interesting, as I never realised that Smiths were originally Cheltenham based. As a Cheltonian by birth, I think I've just found an excuse to buy myself a new watch! :D

A great review (which IMO is wholly true), but no mention of the stale aroma from the packaging when you unwrap your incoming?

love the pic...any way you can make a 1024 x1024 version that i could put on my ipad as a wallpaper?! i'm not kidding!

ps. i broke down and ordered one too several days ago. i kinda had the feeling that would.

pps. Eddie, now that you've gotten the Everest out the door, can you make the vanguard in 38mm w/a flat crystal just to thoroughly tempt me into buying yet another watch???

Wow! What a brilliant pic. I love the way 'the focus' is on the dial. I will comment on the review in the reviews section thread as they stay up longer. :P

Anyone happen to know how thick the Expl 1 acrylic is?

I used to work in a healthfood store where his wife was a regular. He came in one time and I didn't recognise him. Whilst I was serving him , for some reason I was humming the theme tune to the Sweeney. He was really pissed off apparently.
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

    Thanks Ewan, great review !

Just a couple of questions: is the crown signed or simple ? Is the bracelet width 18mm at the clasp or 20mm (I understood the Eddie said it is 20 mm ...) ?

    Ciao

    Ewan,

I've just finished reading your review of the Smiths Everest. As always, you have thoughtfully and eloquently considered the watch itself, as well as its development, historical context and execution. Thank you.

In addition, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of my fellow forum members her,as well as our host, Eddie, a joyous Christmas season.

I too bit the bullet and ordered the Everest this week. This is actually my first Time Factors purchase and I am very very excited about it. Upon discovering Eddies masterful creations, I've been obsessively lurking the site and forums for the last few weeks debating which watch to purchase. Well, this review pretty much sealed the deal. =)

Now if only another batch of PRS-22GMTs would be created my life would be complete. (Seems I missed the boat by a few months on this one!)
