    Favourite Polo shirt brand??

Xmas time I usually end up buying the old man a few polo shirts. As he spends little on "brands" I end up getting him something half decent e.g. Ralph Lauren Polo etc.

This year I need a few for myself - anybody recommend any?

I love Sunspel polos as they fit great however I have had 2 that have shrunk and 2 that have not which has been slightly annoying!!

I was recommended Ralph Lauren custom Polos however the "tail" of the shirt is ridiulously long and I like to wear them loose and not tucked in

    Any recommendations??

I recently got a couple of Hanes on Amazon: inexpensive, no logo, all cotton, wash well, good fit, and nice plain colors. Perfect for me. I'm going to get more. These were first I've ever had which resulted in favorable comments from my wife, although I've certainly had more expensive ones from the USA from Nordstrom's (my personal favourite), LLBean, Land's End, and Brooks Brothers. Until they started putting silly logos on them, I thought the M&S Blue Harbour were pretty good.

    Best wishes,
    Bob

Got a couple of crew 's (crew clothing company) from TKMaxx, cheap, £15 against £40 list. Decent quality - not Ralph Lauren, but not the price either !

I like polo shirts myself and have bought a lot of the Ralph Lauren ones. But, the best, most comfortable, hardest-wearing and nicest-cut ones I have were from when I worked at Maersk. Unfortunately they all have a giant Maersk Line logo stitched into the left breast but I still wear them from time to time.

No manufacturers' label on it either, I wanted to contact them to buy some unbranded ones :(

I'm finding the prices going up and up on branded polos. Both Ralph Lauren and Lacoste are now £70, wasn't that long ago they were just over £50 (I prefer Lacoste over Ralph Lauren)

French Connection do a good selection at the moment and only £30 - £35. Also Superdry do some great polos and they are cheaper than Ralph Lauren & Lacoste

Muji for plain unbranded slim fitting ones. M&S for comfortable, reasonably fitting but very very long lasting ones- much to my wife's annoyance my holiday shirts are all from M&S.

Hennes/H&M come highly recommended from me. Only about £8 each, in a selection of shades/colours and as good as quality and fit as any 'designer' polo shirts.

Gant make some quality hard wearing ones, with and without the logo.
They ve had a makeover in the last couple of years and the quality is as good as Lacoste and RL.Oh and they have some excellent January sales.
Or go to an outlet village and fill your boots.

I love the quality of Ralph and prefer them to my other favorite Lacoste. These are the only ones I've found I can wear at my size but if anyone knows of anyone who makes quality Polo's at 56" then let me know.

I prefer Ralph Lauren...check out some of the outlet villages if they are reasonably handy in terms of distance.

Usually you can get 2 for £70.

My favourite is Fred Perry, especially the slimmer cut with the slightly smaller collar. Wash really well, no shrinkage and don't lose their colour either.

Also I've picked up a few nice ones from Original Penguin.

Used to swear by Lacoste but recent purchases very poor. Nothing like the one's I used to buy in the 80's.

Lyle and Scott are my favorite.

Also keen on Paul Smith, Fred Perry and Lacoste but Lacoste are a little pricey for me!

Can't believe it took till the end of page 2 for a mention of Fred Perry. My choice every time, but will try out the Hanes at £13 on Amazon, thanks for the tip.

Yeah out of the ones I l mentioned, my Fred Perry ones are the best fitting, followed closely by Paul Smith.

Christian Dior polos are very nice too.

    Re: Favourite Polo shirt brand??

Always been a Classic Fit Ralph Lauren man but recently they have stopped the colour range and are, apparently, sending less classic fits to Europe - maybe they think we are all thin over here!
Just bought my first Boss - very nice indeed
Might have to find an outlet village though.......

Lacoste for quality....you can pick up Ralphy ones in places like Bicester Village and Ashford retail centre fairly cheap. Usually £25-30 which makes them seem a bit more sensibly priced.

Another vote for Fred Perry. Bought a couple in Tokyo recently from the 'Japanese' collection, very cool cut. I must have a pencil neck like the Japanese kids!

Wow tons of replies - cheers!!

Ps - check out the Sunspel Riviera ones, Mr Daniel Craig used them in Casino Royale, very comfy and light due to its mesh material and fit great if you have a bit of muscle! I just don't have luck with the black one (2 shrunk a little but all other colours fine)

Never tried a Fred Perry - will give one a go!

Thanks for that _ that's not your mate modelling is it?
Are they all fitted for his shape? I don't have much of a belly (36" waist) and have issues with baggy fronts!

All Saints. Nice fit, usually on the slim side, but flattering when it works. I have a nice Paul Smith one that was released in limited quantities for the World Cup. Can pick them up on eBay from time to time.

Got to be Fred Perry for me. I prefer the classic M1200/M12 styles although they are slightly long in the body. I`ve got around 15.

Only problem is fading with the darker colours; handwash at around 30°C and they're OK and last well. I guess this applies to all cotton polo shirts.

Uniqlo is really good for the value, plain color, no logo.

In the middle price range, Lacoste is great if you don't like Ralph Lauren's Polo cut (nobody needs that cut apart polo players :p)

I also have some designers polo that have a great cut, really high end quality, but those are quite expensive (Louis Vuitton, Dior, also some japanese brand that sizes smaller than others : Comme des Garçons, Sophnet, Uniform Experiment)

I love Pretty Green ones. I bought 10 earlier this year - went on a mad spree over about 2 weeks as a really good sale was on. At one point I got 6 for £98.

    Very smart, understated stuff.

It is reasonable for a site to set cookies when someone logs in to that site, or uses a virtual shopping basket at that site. Setting them when just browsing a site is a bit over the top on my view (so don't allow them to be set). But requiring them just to look? Bye, bye, not so Pretty Green.

Mmm - strange. I've just tried to access via a browser I've never used with cookies switched off and it worked OK?

Quite a few retailers sell them though - Xile clothing is one I've used quite a bit
